Well the title says it all really...
I am 21 wks according to LMP and had an ultrasound yesterday that showed both twins are breech atm. The sonographer assured me that they will both be doing a lot of moving and turning between now and the end, but I was just wondering what happened with other mummies and their twins. At what did they both turn head down, if they did?
Thanks

Had to check my records - One twin breech from the start, had a scan at 23 weeks with both heads down and they stayed that way to the end. Have a friend who had twins 6 weeks after me, they were breech start to end.
Twin A around 28 weeks and twin B around 33 weeks.
They've heaps of room to twist and turn until AT LEAST 30 weeks.

I am 32 weeks pregnant at the moment and at the start- they were mostly always head down up until about 2 weeks ago, when one turned breech and the other kept flipping into every position possible!
At the moment, they are both breech.. as they have moved around so much twin A isn't necessarily the closest to the cervix anymore so it's pot luck what position they will be in when i go into labour or get induced. This was one thing (type of birth) I worried about ALOT at the start of the pregnancy as i really wanted a natural vaginal birth with them if they were head down, now I am at the super uncomfortable and no energy stage that I really couldn't care less how they arrive as lOng as it's soon! with twins you have so much less control over positioning etc than with a singleton.. It's just a waiting game really and they will most likely keep turning right to the end.

When the presenting twin was head down I could feel him kicking down on my pelvic floor. That sensation stopped at around 22 weeks. He went head down and stayed there. Twin two moved between breech and cephalic for the rest of the pregnancy. I don't even know what position she was in when I went into labour but she did present cephalic once she had the uterus to herself. Whether she was already head down or whether she flipped I don't know. My Ob was happy to deliver her as a breech so it didn't matter.

Mine were flipping up until 35 and a bit weeks. You've still got lots of time!

T1 was head down pretty early - pretty sure 28 week scan she was head down. T2 was head down, but decided at 35ish weeks to turn to breech. I birthed her breech

My scan last week showed Twin1 head down. All I could hope is maybe the other twin could lie across Twin1 so it would remain head down

It's great seeing all these questions pop up from women around the same gestation because it's things I wonder about too

Mine tried every combination! Started off both head down, then by 20weeks were at right angles to each other, then both breech for another few weeks, then turned back to head down sometime after 30 weeks (can't remember when). Believe me they can still move around at this stage, no matter how little space they have! So only time will tell, but yes there is every possibility that they may change positioning

Had my 28 week scan last week - at the beginning of the scan twin A was cephalic, twin B breech. By the end of the scan they were both breech! Confused the sonographer there for a while. I am still feeling heaps of turning, and quite often now can feel a spine so have no idea what they are up to at the moment.
I think I recall reading somewhere that up to 34 weeks they could change position regularly.

never, they were transverse the entire pg and never moved ds2 (presenting twin) was trapped in that position because dd was on top of him and i guess she was too comfortable lol

Twin 1 was head down from at least 19 weeks and never budged except to lean her feet sideways. to kick twin 2 (breech) in the noggin. Looks like she was head down at the 12 week scan actually, but I assume that would just be coincidence at that gestation. She was on the right and also never moved from there. Twin 2 was breech from 19 wks on, again no budging from breech position or his camp on the left side of the uterus, although he did move his head between up under my ribs and down around the belly button (ie would change the degree to which he was hunched over). I birthed him breech - piece of cake
Having had a nasty posterior delivery with my first kid and been blamed for her positioning by a few well-intentioned midwives (too much desk work, etc), it was such a relief to be told by our midwife for the twins that there was really not much to be done about positioning in a twin pregnancy. They fit how they fit! I managed to mostly stop worrying about it, and naturally Twin 1 engaged in a perfect OA presentation, clever girl. The birth of the twins was SO MUCH better than my singleton - very fast, too, which appears to be quite common with twins.
Best of luck for at least a presenting head-down twin when it counts!

Mine were transverse till 30ish weeks, Looked they were top and tail in bunkbeds on the ultrasound. twin 2 went head down at 32 weeks her sister went breech with her head up under my ribs.
Thats how they stayed. Csection at 38 weeks.
mine were little tumble turners, but from about 32/34 weeks twin was breech facing backwards and locked in, twin two was transverse (like the letter T) across the top and continued to spin round... they were born by c/s at 37+6.

The lower twin was head down from somewhere around 25 weeks, the upper twin flipped around every few days throughout the whole pregnancy. I was induced with her in a breech position, and she was delivered in the breech position.

Me to QUIXOTE!
I'm so surprised to read some of these answers. I thought that they would have run out of room to turn by x number of weeks. So its interesting that some of them are still turning so late.
I have always had one head down and one breech/transverse. However at the last scan they were both head down. Which I was excited about, until i remembered that it was almost impossible that I am going to have a vaginal birth!

Oh well, as long as they come out healthy (thats my new mantra!)

My presenting twin was mostly vertex from about 25 weeks, although she would occasionally flip to a breech position - I could determine how they were lying by their hiccups and I could also tell the difference between a kick with a foot or a poke with a hand.
Twin 2 went any which way he wanted! At the end they were both delivered vertex.
You still have plenty of time.

Thanks ladies! All this is very reassuring to me!
I have another question... did anyone do the "spinning babies" website stuff? If so, did it make a difference or benefit in any way? What other things could I do to encourage head-down positioning?
Thanks again

One of mine was breech right up until about 34 weeks.
Don't know how she did it, but she managed to turn and both were born head down at 37 weeks.
My twin 1 was breech from early on. Twin 2 was cephalic and turned to breech b/w 24 and 28 wks. Both breech from then on. C-section at 36w (but would have had one regardless of their position).

At one stage both of mine were head down. But then twin B turned breech again, and stayed that way.

I'm currently 33+4, and my two have been and continue to be all over the place! Mine are sharing a placenta, so we've had fortnightly scans the whole way through, and they are dong something different every scan. We've had every version of transverse in earlier pregnancy (bunk beds as per Becs), top to tailing both sides and heads together both sides. I think around 26ish they were Twin 1 breech, Twin 2 transverse , then Twin 1 breech, Twin 2 vertex. Both transverse, heads together right side next scan, then Twin 1 breech, Twin 2 vertex again at next scan. Our last scan, they were both breech. The only place Twin 1 hasn't been is head down! I honestly thought they would have run out of room by now for rearranging the furniture, but not so. And I definately know when they are having a big shuffle around- ouch! I'm hoping for a VBAC and my OB wants them both head down first. Fingers crossed, I'm guessing anything could still happen.

Mine were both head down the entire pregnancy. They both kicked a lot, but I never felt big whole body movements, and all my ultrasounds showed them in the same positions.

Mine have just totally turned again tonight (33wks on thurs) I think
Twin 1 is now head down twin 2 still breech but kicking like mad. So over this pregnancy now!!!
Not fun to have 2 babies kicking your cervix! And not a good look to be grabbing your belly and gasping all the time, I kept stressing out poor DH who thought I was going into labour. Surely it's more comfortable to have them head down (although what is comfortable about a 3rd trimester twin pregnancy?)

Quick scan at the OB's today, and both twins are still breech. I guess they've finally run out of somersaulting room- we're 34 weeks. And bye-bye to my VBAC I suppose....
