Hi there once again ladies.. Please can you correct me if i am wrong ... but ... this is what i was told over the weekend by another twin carrying mum.. That Ob's will NOT deliver twins vaginally now.. i was told that will only deliver them by c-section beacuse of the risks to the babies whilst in labour & delivery. Now i know many of you have and vaginal biths and many have had c-sections so you might be able to shed some light on the topic..
I am trying to avoid a c-section as much as possible.. Has my friends Ob got it wrong and only booking her in for a c-section for his time or benifit? mind you she has three other children all born vaginaly
Hope this infomation is totally wrong.

Hi there!
Well this is the funniest thing I have ever heard! Between the Ob that I was under in Perth and the new Ob have here in Kalgoorlie they do not want to intervene unless there is a medical reason why - eg.
*Blood pressure
*2 breech babies
*Pre-eclampsia
*Low birth weights
*in utero problems
* stress
I am confident that they would rather women try a natural delivery first and then look at c-section if mum or bubs arent going well.
Please try to to keep calm and listen to the medical opinion from your own Ob. She may have some 'other' issues that she isnt telling you about! Just trying to scare you......
I hope this helps a little......just dont listen and the advice you are getting for you is the best advice.

I havent heard any ob say c-section for twins. However, obs would normally like to deliver a breech whether one or two by c-section. There was a study started to see the differences in outcomes of vaginal vs c-section delivery on breech babies - the study was stopped before it concluded because the risks to the baby were so high with a vaginal delivery that it was considered unethical to continue the study. And yes, there have been lots of vaginal deliveries of breech babies over the years but the risks are there. If the first baby was breech it would be risky enough but if the 2nd baby is breech there are more risks. So maybe your friend was thinking of breech/c-section not twin/c-section. Ali

Hi
I had a c-section but for other twin related complications (TTTS) but my OB was actually more inclined to encourage women to birth twins vaginally rather than c-section if at all possible because he said the recovery rate was so much better, it helped with establishing breastfeeding and with bonding and with two babies the more help you can get the better.
Listen to what your OB is telling you and if you are not sure or don't like what they are saying seek a second opinion! There are so many 'stories' and 'old wives tales' out there about having babies that it is sometimes really hard to know if someone's information is from a good source or not!

Hi Jennifer
My OB said that some doctors will automatically opt for a c-section when it's twins. He said that there's no need and that he always tries for a vaginal birth as the first option. Again, as the others have said, that will obviously change depending on how the twins are presenting closer to the due date. My OB has delivered his last 2 sets of twins recently by c-section as they were lying transverse. So I guess he will keep monitoring me and we will make a decision closer to D day.
Hope this helps....

I think it depends on the twins. I know for a fact the are very few OB's that will attempt to deliver Mono-amniotic twins (sharing the same sac) naturally, due to risk of tangle.

my ob was quite willing to deliver my boys vaginally until we realized they were breach. i had to have a c section for this reason only. i have not heard of any ob telling you you have to have a c section for twins.

Hi Jennifer.
I have been told by my Ob that as long as the first baby is head down then I will go for a vaginal delivery. That is unless there are any complications.
He tries for vaginal deliveries for all his twins, and he has delivered a lot (retiring next year

)
Take care

It is dependent on lots of things eg your health, babies' health and particularly how twin 1 is presenting - but I've never heard of a rule that all twins are C-section. My girls were born vaginally. Definitely check with your OB. Good luck

My answer would be the same as Maree's. My boys were born vaginally and I recovered quite quickly afterwards. Best of luck,

Hi Jennifer,
My Ob told me that in QLD for example that all multiples are delivered by C section now as they cannot always be sure of having a Paediatrician available for the delivery, however, in NSW they still prefer to deliver multiples vaginally if there are no complications or risks to the mum or babies.
