Hello Lovely Ladies,

Our 4th precious son is due on 9th May. I absolutly love the name Stirling William and think it goes with our three other sons; Lachlan Michael, Jett Hedley and Carter James (second names are all family names).

I need your advice despertaly as my Mum cannot stand it (well she has hated all but Lachlan) and my husband thinks its just ok:

1) What do you think of Stirling William? Does it sound smart and strong?

2) How could we shorten Stirling ..... "Stirlo" is the only one that comes to mind and I don't like it sad.gif

3) My other names I like include: Chadwick (Chad); Chase; Knox and Preston..... do these sound better ?

Your advice and honest opinion is soooo appreciated xoxo
jotana
Sorry I don't like it. Preston is nice.
fifi-trixibelle
I really don't like it either. I'm not overly keen on any of the other options but Preston seems the best from those. I definitely wouldn't use Chadwick/Chad or Chase with a Carter already, I'd avoid using another L or J first name too.
Monroe
I like Preston & Knox from your list.
I think Preston fits better though with your DS's names.
woopsadaisy
Looks like I'm the odd one out...I really like Stirling!

My advice would be to stop talking names with your Mum until after bubs is born....sounds like she won't 'approve' of anything out of the ordinary!

Your DH thougb may be another story!

Good luck. original.gif

Oh dear things are not looking good.

I agree with the Carter / Chase and Chad thing- so perhaps now its just between Stirling, Knox and Preston....uuummm

Has no-one any suggestions for a nickname for Stirling?

I actually like Stirling William, sounds like a nice strong name and I think it goes well with your other DS names but the Stirlo bit would bother me.

Don't like Chadwick/Chad. Next pick from your list would be Knox.

My fave boys name is Angus, shortened to Ang but not Gus!

Hi there

I don't really like Stirling as much as i prefer Chase and Preston off your list.
Don't you hate it when someone close to you says they dislike the names, very rude i think!
All the best, your due a week after me biggrin.gif
MammaP
I went to school with a boy named Stirling. His name was never shortened, he was always just Stirling.

I love the name but an no fussed with any of the other choices.

Love all your other boys names as well.
Cranky Old Woman
I like Stirling much better than any of your other choices but my top pick would be William.

I love Stirling i think its awesome! Go for it i say, it goes great with your other boys names too...

Makes me think of Stirling Moss the famous racing driver biggrin.gif

You love it, use it! Many on here would attest to how difficult mothers can be, especially when it comes to naming babies. Make the topic off-limits from now on. Stirling William is great and goes well with the others.
I love that it is not everywhere. And yes, smart and strong. There's an EBer with a Stirling; I saw it today but didn't take in the UN.

Nickname? I don't know but I wouldn't get caught up in that one, it'll probably have no bearing on what transpires anyway. Just call him Stirling.
stabilo
bit similar to Stirling Archer - very funny show but couldn't associate that with a baby. I just offer it as food for thought on the off chance it makes it to our tv shores
Jillybilly
Oh goodness thank you all so much. I feel better now..... And your right we don't really have to shorten it anyway- just want to be prepared if there is a short version I should be prepared for.

Again- thank you. Any more opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I prefer the name William over Stirling. Having said that though if you really love the name Stirling then you should use it original.gif

Just thinking about rushing my boys to get dressed in the morning:

"Lachlan, Jett, Carter and Stirling......." uummm does still sound good !!!

i actually don't mind Stirling and Stirling William is a nice string combo. Of the others on your list, i only like Chase but don't think it goes as well with your other kids names
4plus1makes5
Love Stirling, not sure of a nickname though. My other choice that suits your other boys names is Preston.

I like it! I worked with a Stirling and sometimes we called him Stirl... But not often. Who cares what your mum thinks! She had (and named) her babies!

Agree with fifi. And Stirling reminds me of Peter Stirling from the footy show wacko.gif

Out of the names you've mentioned I vote Stirling.
daruma
What about Baxter William. That would go well with your others. I love Baxter.
vanessa71
Sorry, not a fan of any of those names.

rosiebird
I knew a man called Stirling. I quite like the name. His nickname was "Stirl".
allenall
I'm sorry, I don't like it. It reminds me of cigarettes. Or an American soap opera character.
What about going for William Stirling instead?
Sunniedayz
I think Stirling is a really strong and manly name. Perhaps have a couple of other back up names and spend a few days with the baby before making any decisions.
tres-chic
I love Stirling William and definitely find it strong and masculine!
Jillybilly
Thank you all soo much. I just spoke with my "Bestie" who lives in The Netherlands and asked her for her honest opinion on Stirling. She knows me so well and I trust her (normally we tell NO-ONE but my parents the name).

She LOVED it and said it is my DH and me to a tea !!!!! She got so excited and said that she just LOVED the name.....

Amazing how I just needed approval from someone that loves and knows me so well- to balance my Mum's opinion- Mind you she hated Jett and Carter also (My Mum that is) !!!!!

My DH also said this afternoon- hunny lets stick with what you love (I think its because we will have 4 sons he is more than comprimising with the name issue....) and tell your parents we have not made our mind up.......

SO thank you all again. I actually don't mind Stirl for short BUT will be calling him Stirling 99.9% of the time I am sure.

Any more opinions are welcome xoxoxxoxo
Party of 5
