I don't have a strict rule (unlike
Fifi-trixibelle
) when chosing baby names about not repeating letters but it is something that I would like to avoid.
Anyway DH and I were talking baby names this evening and all the boys names we like start with T and all the girls names we like start with an A. Our DD's name is Tia Adele
So obviously for some random reason we are drawn to these letters.
They are:
Araminta
Autumn
Alaska
Accalia
Tadhg / Tiege / Tige
Tallis
Talon / Tallin
Tobias
Is there any particular letter you seem to like more than others? What is it, and what are the names? Inspire me...

I can't inspire you, but I gravitate towards names with 'L' in them. Either starting with L or with L in the middle.
Our last name starts with L though, and is only one syllable - names with L in them can sound a little odd against our surname, but they still top the list.
DD is named Holly which I think sounds fine with an L surname..
But, now every new name I think of has an L in it and that doesn't necessarily make for the greatest sibset!
Elly
Lucy
Elise
Ally
William
ooh, seems I also like names ending with 'y'

LOL

For me a lot of the girls names i like end in 'a'. Also, add an 'a' to the end of a name that I don't like or think it's average and it suddently becomes an awesome name (think sophia, georgiana)! A few 'A' names I like are...
Arianna
Keira
Clara
Sienna
Sophia
Eloisa
Georgiana
Katiana
Trianna
Annika
Isabella

Girls, not really although I have 7 names on my list and 3 begin with E.
Boys, I have a thing about L****n names for some reason. Lleyton, Lawson, Lincoln, Leven...I just love them all but they're so similar I can only use one.

If you have ARAMINTA on your list as your top contender, then you need no inspiration! What a gorgeous, cool, seldom heard, feminine, fantastic name.
I will have serious name envy if you end up using it!

Obviously S names (see sig) but unfortunately DH wouldn't go for a 3rd S name so we liked 2 G names and ended up with one of them.
No girls here

For some reason I seem to be fond of girls names to do with the sky, DD is Celeste and I also love the name Aurora

My girl list had lots of A names though DD didn't end up with one of them.
My boy list is so short, there isn't enough for a pattern to emerge!

I don't need baby names yet. I just think its funny how all the names we like start with the same 2 letters!
BMJ - Have been loving Araminta for a while now, but cant seem to find a nice middle names for it. I would like something beginning with J so I can nickname her either Mintie or AJ, but I can't find any J names I love yet and Jane is too boring next to it. So hard!

ETA - DH just suggested Jacinta as a middle name. Yes honey, we will name our daughter Araminta Jacinta!

Not particularly, but i found when we started thinking of names for DD2, every single one doubled up a letter with one of the other kids.
We already had a girl's name for her, Flora...which obviously doubles up with Finnegan.
All of our potential boy's names start with either E, A or L.
Pssst...
25/03/2011, 09:50 AM
Delli - what about Joy as a middle name?
Araminta Joy

All ours are vowels (no 'o' though), and 'J'
In order: I, E, A, J, J.
We are finished having children now, but other names we liked but aren't going to use were another A and another E.
It wasn't a rule though, they were just the names we liked, and now to me 'J' is like a vowel

. I seriously couldn't imagine naming a child anything but a vowel or J now.

I would have said T and F off the top of my head but then I looked at my fave names collection. Girls have most in the M's and none in the K's. Boys no letter stands out, some letters only one or two. Which I think says more about what my pool of names start with rather than my letter preferences. The letter M in isolation doesn't grab me anyway so I would say for me the initial letter is of interest but doesn't account for a whole lot.

I love girls' names starting with C and A. I could easily name 6 or 7 daughters with either letter and be very happy with them all.
Boys' names, I don't really have a letter with more favourites.

I like T names for boys as you can tell. I didn't want to have them start with the same letter but we loved DS2s name so much that we had to. PS Tallas (Tallis) is a great name by the way

We seem to gravitate towards T names too. Our first born is a T, so we have steered away from it for any other first names.
Other T boys for your list:
Tegaue
Tasman
Tamar
Torren
ETA - whoops, that should have been Teague

Me too! But our surname is also H so makes it tricky. Our son is an H but we steered away from the letter for our daughter.
I didn't used to think there was, but whenever I'm thinking up names for the future child [I'M NOT HAVING], I keep realising I've already got a child with a name starting with A, L, E or B, hahaha!

Thanks for the suggestions BMJ & Gudrun - I think Araminta Jill is a winner at this stage. Now just to get pregnant and make sure its a girl. How hard can it be??
I have broadened the horizons but I can't seem to get past T names for boys... I quite like Chad though, so that might grow on me.
Funny though how some letters suck you in!! I am pretty sure there is a member here with 6 children (or something like that) all with A names.
