Hello Ladies,
My DW is neally 15 weeks with our twins!! I came across this site around December and never realised there was a section for twin / multiples. I am really interested in all this pregnancy stuff and can't read enough info. My DW is a PE Teacher in Newcastle and is finding it pretty so far, just a little tired in the afternoon. Belly is starting to pop!!
Hope you don't mind a few questions?
This is our first and I am currently getting one of the rooms in our home ready. When do anyone have their rooms complete by?
M/S seems to have gone but DW can feel pretty ill still when she is near certain foods (raw meat). Does this subside or remain throughout pregnancy? Did anyone elses sense of hearing heighten during pregnancy?
I hope noone minds a male on the forum. Please let me know if it is a problem.
Very curious daddy!!

Scott

Congratualtions and Welcome Scott & DW.....

Of course we dont mind having a male in the forum - I personally think its fantastic to see a daddy to be in here and sourcing information. Good on you.

Now - Dont get too upset when we whinge about our loving Dh's!!! Sometimes it just happenes to pop up! But at least you will know what ticks us off and be sure not to inflict that on your DW. **LOL**

I only talk of my own experiences and I am too a first time parent to be of twins. Our twins are fraternal (non-identical) and we have not found out the sex yet. Look forward to hearing if your precious bundles to be are identical or not.

My sense of smell & Hearing went through the roof! For the first 4 months or so and then started to go back to normal. I could even hear conversations next door that were not meant to be listened to! LOL It has alot to do with the amount of hormones that are crazily running throughout our bodies. It will eventually ease, I personally think its getting us ready for the little cries throughout the night and the preparation for nappies!!

Nursery & Purchase of Baby goods - I felt a little insecure about buying the big things (cots, prams, bouncers, high chairs, and car seats) until I hit the 26-27 week. I dont know why and although I am a shy quiet person I am deeply confident in my abilities and goals. It was just a feeling that it was too early to get it all IYKWIM. Once we hit that mark, we had saved and researched what products we would get and in what colours etc - so from there it was easy.
I am now almost 31 weeks and we have the big stuff and making room for lots of the little stuff.
We have put one cot in the nursery and one in our bedroom and our babies will sleep together, unless they continue to wake each other and we will separate them - for now that is the plan.
Our car seats are in the Nursery and we plan to get them professionally fitted in the next 2-3 weeks, just to get used to it all.

Room - We had to lay new carpet, build a wardrobe, new blinds and fit an air conditioner. My lovely husband got all this messy stuff done early...I would suggest to have everything pretty much organised before the 32 week mark for sure. Then you can just sit in there and ponder baby thoughts!! (Thats what we do)

I had no morning sickness at all so I cant really tell you about foods, but I cant get enough Steak at the moment! I love it and would have it every night if able.....Sorry this is not much help - really making myself hungry!! LOL

Well thats enough from me - this forum is full of wonderful advice and helpful information. Please dont hesitate to ask them/us anything!

Once again congratulations on your double bundle! It really is a blessing and you should both feel exremly blessed!

Hi Scott.

Congratulations to you and your DW.

I like Bree, am expecting fraternal twins, and am currently just over 30 weeks pg too.

I did suffer terrible morning sickness, which finally subsided. I have only just been able to look at and cook raw chicken again!

Being a little deaf - my hearing has just improved....but our son complains that I am always now saying "what's that smell?"

We are renovating, so have been unable to get the babies room ready, but should be finished in the next two weeks. Then it will be all hands to the pump.....
We left buying some of the bigger purchases until a little later also, but they are all ready and waiting now to be set up - We have an older son, and I was the same with him. My DH had to literally push me to the shops to get orgnaised!

As far as being tired..........I am exhausted most of the time, and gave up work at 28/29 weeks. Twins take up a lot of energy, but your DW's Dr/Ob will keep a good eye on the mum to be original.gif

Congratulations again.

Rachel

Hi!

I think it's so great to see a Dad here! I have been telling DH he needs to get online to look for other 'twin dad's' but he's too slack!

Congratulations on being an almost twin Dad! And feel free to ask away - every here is really helpful and friendly!

As for completing the babies' room... well we have identical twin girls who are 14 months old and their bedroom is still not 'finished'!!! But they actually still sleep in our room and any way we've sold our house now so I guess it will never get done! So I am not much help for you am I!

But I guess part of that question is when can you expect the babies to be born?? Which is almost impossible to answer!

I had big plans of finishing work at 26 weeks and spending time shopping for all the things we'd need... but instead I ended up in hospital in preterm labour then on bed rest until the girls were born at 29 weeks so we had not a thing organised! But it gave me something to do while the girls were in hospital and by the time they came home we had most of the things we needed... though my MIL was sure the babies would end up sleeping in a cardboard box they didn't!

Morning sickness? You mean all day sickness?? I didn't get sick until about 12 weeks and then stayed that way until the girls were born... so I guess maybe I am just a bit backwards! original.gif

My senses did go funny - smell was the worst and working in child care a heightened sense of smell was not something you wanted!

Have you read the book 'Twins - a practical and emiotnal guide to parenting twins' By Katrina Bowman and Louise Ryan? It's a really great book and quite easy to read with lots and lots of info. DH and I found it a really good place to start when we found out we were having more than one and now I wish I got commission as I reccomend it so often!

Hope that helps and wishing you both a happy healthy twin pregnancy!

Welcome and congratulations!!!!! We have fraternal twin girls almost 21 months. Had the nursery ready by the time I was around 30 weeks.put most things on layby and that way wasn't jinxing myself in case anything went askew. Better to be prepared I say...

Had shocking morning sicknes until around 21 weeks. I still find even after all this time that certain foods still make me remember the queesiness all too well.

Recommend the 'Twins' book as well. It's a great and easy read and the info is spot on.

Relax and enjoy yourselves... Life is definately never the same with twins.

Hi Scott and Welcome! I think it would be nice to have some male input around here...as long as you don't mind when we start talking all the "secret women's business" LOL

As far as preparing a room, as long as you have the basics, the bubs won't care! If your babies come early you will have some time to finish getting ready before they come home...if they go close to full term...you'll be really ready! I suddenly had an urge to get all the stuff organised in our house, and our bubs arrived a week later.

I experienced overwhelming tiredness, I just wanted to sleep all the time. M/S was bearable...but raw meat got me too. I couldn't prepare food, but if someone dished it up to me I could eat. That went at about 16 weeks and I could cope with most things then.

Definitely get the "Twins" book as mentioned by some others...it has been my bible. If I am feeling a wee bit fragile or uncertain...I reach for the book (or log on here) and I always feel much better.ü

Hi Scott! Congratulations and welcome! I too had been on EB in the “Due in” thread and someone told me about the twins and multiple births section. I spend all my EB time here now! These ladies are great and no question is a silly one for them. If your question has been asked recently we will usually copy the thread for you so you can read through the recent responses. I also think it’s wonderful to have a Daddy-to-be on the forum. That’s really sweet of you.

I am 20 weeks pregnant with identical twins, so you’re not far behind us. This is also our first pregnancy. We are not finding out the sex. Do you know if yours are identical or fraternal? And will you find out the sex?

I have had pretty severe morning sickness. It was worst from 6 ½ wks to about 10 which was made worse by a gastro infection that I picked up o/s. 10 weeks later and I am just starting to feel a bit more normal. I have found lately that I am still queezy in the mornings so I eat constantly fruit, vitawheats, cheese and then have lunch and by dinner I am just not hungry. This fits in well with me as I too still can’t stand the smell of cooking food or the thought of preparing or cutting up anything. I can also dine out or go to friend’s places and be served dinner and can eat it quite easily, but just can’t bring myself to prepare it. I have heard that in some women this can continue right through the whole pregnancy, but everyone’s different.

I can’t say my hearing has heightened but my sense of smell, definitely! This is probably one of the reasons I can’t cook or go to enclosed restaurants with strong smelling foods. Garlic I used to love and cooking toast, now both turn my stomach!

I am also very tired by about 3pm in the afternoons so am planning on reducing my hours in the next month or so. I also have trouble getting out of the car and sitting up from a lying position on the couch and I am not even big yet! My hubby is very sympathetic and keeps remindning me that I am baking two bubs and to take it easy....

Like Bree, I waited until after our 19 wk scan to buy nursery stuff, just to be sure. We have our change table and have ordered the cots, mattresses and will be getting the pram and car seats soon. We too are “planning” on putting one cot in our room to sleep the bubs together at nights and the other in the nursery for day sleeps.

I also recommend the twins book Kate suggested. I have one on loan from a friend and have mine on order through Dymocks….still waiting 2 weeks later….should be in in the next 10 days….

Best of luck Scott. We look forward to hearing about your 19 wk scan!

Morning Ladies,
Apologies for not getting back earlier. I don't have broadband at home and this site is impossible to get onto on normal dial-up. Thank you for such a great response. I was not expecting such in-depth answers.
Bree: Our twins are fraternal too. We are not going to find out the sex, so as to keep it a suprise. We were also thinking about getting the major stuff around the 25 / 26 week mark. I really just want to get it all complete so I can spend the last 7 or 8 weeks with DW. We too are getting a new wardrobe in the nurser at the moment.
Rachel: The ob said DW will be doing well if she can get to 29 weeks with work. She is getting pretty tired already so will just go with the flow.
Kate: WOW 29 weeks!!. My older brothers are identical twins and were born at 30 weeks. Apparently one of them put their foot through the placenta. My mum told me this gave her loads of time to get their nursery ready as she only found out she was having twins the day before (30 years ago). I will definately go out and get that book. Will send a commission you way.
Rebecca: My olds have put a few thing on layby mainly due to the warranty issue. People in the shop say to pick up everything by 36 weeks.
Twinmomma: Just when we think morning sickness is easing, BANG, it whacks her again. Seems to be getting further apart though.
Drew: Gotta love this EB site. This is the only section I really look at now (has only been a week!!) I will be interested in all your views as you are only 5 weeks infront of DW. You would have a pretty good belly by now?

A quick question: DW and I don't want to know the sex of our babies. Our Ob told us that DW will be having about 5 more scans before the birth (Private system). I just hope we don't see anything we don't want to see. Did anyone else have this concern?

Thank you once agin for such a great response.

Kind regards,
Scott

Hi Scott!

Just me again! LOL, Be very clear to the sonographer before you enter the room that you wish not to find out the sexes of your babies!

We have had so many scans and have told our ob and the sonographers each time we get there that we have chosen not to know.

its funny, some of them say "oh look at him there and we both look up - but its just a figure of speech and they apologise each time!!! Some of them call them "babes"!

Hope you and your DW are going well and enjoying this very exciting news!

[color=Blue]Hi Scott, and welcome to EB! It's so nice to have a guy on here for a change! ;p

We also have frateral twins and we didn't want to know the sex of them before the birth. We just told the sonographer every time I had a scan that we didn't want to know the sex (actually, DH made a point of telling the sonographer every time!). We couldn't see any "bits" on the scans, so there were no giveaways for us, but then again the sonographer also wasn't trying to look at that particular part of their anatomy.

Good luck to your DW with the rest of the pregnancy, and keep on asking those questions as they pop into your head.
