Had my first appt with the ob today and he told me he likes twin pregnancies to finish at 24wks. I was a bit surprised as I was hoping to work to about 30wks if I coped okay. Just wondering when everyone else finished work? I am also wondering what will I do for the 3 or so months if I go full term. Or were you so tired you couldnt even consider doing much?
Thanks
Lisa

Hi Lisa,
I finished work at 20 weeks due to some medical issues complicating my pregnancy. I was planning to finish at 24 weeks but found I was quite tired and i would not havebeen able to work up to 30 weeks. however that is me, I know other people have very different twin pregnancy experiences. I think you will know your body best and know when you are ready to stop working.

I do remember fatigue being a big issue for the second half of my preg. I was on bed/lounge rest for the last 3 months so for me it was video's, crocheting, reading and sleeping to fill in my days.

I hope you have a very fit and healthy pregnancy and can really enjoy the experience.

Hi Lisa

My doctor advised me to finish work at about 29 weeks however I ended up finishing at 24.5 weeks due to complications. I still felt fine then, just tired and I think I could of worked until 29 weeks, however Jackson had other ideas!

Oh I forgot to add that from 24 weeks I was told to cut down to 3 days a week. I am a school teacher and was on my feet all day with a completely 'feral class'. After my 1st three day week (finished on the Wed) and was in hospital on the Friday. It was no more work for me.

Hi Lisa,
I finished work at 29 weeks (Christmas 03). I was still working Full time and on my feet from 9-5. The boys were getting very heavy by then. I felt really good when I got past 18 weeks (I finally stopped throwing up!) and didnt get very tired. The Dr would ask every appointment was I still working and how was it going. I initally told my work would finish end of January (was due early march) but as time approached, I took all my holidays owing and finished at Christmas. I had my boys 4 weeks later @ 33 weeks. Hopefully your work is a bit flexible and accomodate your feelings and wishes.

Hi Lisa!

I am planning on finishing work at 31 wks and taking the 32nd wk as holidays as I have a week owing. My OB said that I could work until 32-34 wks, which surprised me as I have read a lot of women have had their twins anything from 30 to 39 wks.

I actually posted this question a little while ago when I was trying to decide. I have copied the link for you...hope it works...

I have read the details on the govt website about maternity leave and it says you have to give 10 wks written notice to advise that you are intending to take maternity leave and then give them written notice one month before of the actual dates you intend to leave. You can also advise that you want to finish earlier if you give notice in writing 14 days prior. I think that's it, well, that's the legal way but I am sure most employers don't expect such formality and will definitely let you finish earlier if you need to. As the other ladies said, it is good to have a plan and then revise it depending on how you feel. I remember reading that it is important not to push yourself as the amount of rest you get can determine how long the little ones will stay put, and the longer the better....

Good luck with your decision...let us know what you decide to do...

I had to get out my 2003 diary to remember exact dates! Baby brain is my excuse.

On my OB's advice I took every Wednesday off from 22 weeks - he said it was a good way to avoid getting too tired as at least I was only ever working 2 days in a row. After a lot of "discussion" I even got work to give those to me as paid leave - what a drama that was. I told them the option was for them to pay me as sick leave or for me to finish up altogether at 24 weeks - they wanted me to stay as long as possible so I won!

Then from 28 weeks I finished early some afternoons here and there and took those days as annual leave (I thought I wouldn't push my victory on sick pay!) and worked half days for the last couple of weeks until
32 weeks when I finished altogether. Keep in mind mine was a desk job only 5 minutes walk from home (15 minutes with a third trimester twin pregnancy!).

I'm glad I had 5 weeks off before the girls were born at 37 weeks - I was very tired and uncomfortable and it was a struggle to do anything. For me gradually cutting down hours from 22 weeks definitely meant I could stay at work longer. But in the end it's a personal decision taking into account the kind of work you do, how hard to it is to get to work (eg how long is your commute) and what medical problems (if any) you have. Just remember in making your decision that your health and the health of your babies is the most important thing.

Good luck

Hi Lisa!

hope you are well!

I am currently 30 weeks and 3 days today. I am still at work, which is office based and I have been advised by my Ob yesterday to finish within the next week or two. he wants to encourage rest and relaxation.

With a problem free pregnancy until now (odema - sweling of feet and hands) and a slightly high BP, I feel I have given enough to work and now its time to let them do it and for me to do what is best for my health and the babies health. I will be telling my boss today that my last day is either the 11th or 16th of Feb.

I feel confident in saying that while we are pregnant with multiples and feel we are coping well then stay with it, you know when its enough. My body is starting to tell me now - this is too much.

Boredom - was something I know will happen to me because I miss my DH so much when he is at work all day! I plan on attending some water classes during the day, a 2 hour breastfeeding course, cook lots of meals that I can freeze for when the babies are here and have Girlfriends over for a cuppa or two!

You will find something to keep you occupied - I am sure. Nesting kicks in too and that could take up a few days for sure! LOL

I hope this long epic post is helpful, it made me feel better writing it, after my doc visit and advice to stop work yesterday!

Have a wonderful day - smile, you are going to have 2 babies!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Lisa

I finished work at 26/27 weeks, but for 2 weeks before that i was working half days as i was just exhausted. My Ob told me that i had to be finished work by 28 weeks to prevent premature labour. I am now 38 weeks pregnant (so obviously no premature labour for me!!) and it has been very boring waiting here for 3 months for them to arrive, but i think that part of the reason that i am still carrying them is that i got to finish work so early and just relaxed.

I think it depends a bit on what sort of work you do-I worked till 28weeks shift work-days/arvos/nights all in the one week-very busy and on my feet the whole time
-another girl I work with has just left at 30weeks.

I basically had a trouble free pregnancy.

My workmate gave notice for maternity leave for 30weeks but was prepared to take sick leave prior to that if she wasnt able to continue working till then (works well if you have lots up your sleeve)
