Hi,
We had decided on Flynn for our second little boy however now DH has decided he likes Sunny as it is a bit different. I really like it too I just don't know if I am brave enough to call my son Sunny. I don't like it spelt Sonny. Our first child is named Archie.
Do you think Sunny or Flynn or any other name suggestions?!!!!!!!

I can only just stand Sonny as a nickname only to names ending in 'son' but as a full name I think it's terrible regardless of spelling. I think Flynn is really nice so I'd definitely go with that.
Other suggestions:
Archie and Toby
Archie and Harry
Archie and Eli
Archie and Max
Archie and Milo/Miles
Archie and Jack
Archie and Ryan
Archie and Finn
Archie and Fraser
Archie and Saxon
Archie and Jude
Archie and Quinn
Archie and Eden
Archie and Oscar
Archie and Blake
Archie and Brady
Archie and Bailey
Archie and Lewis
Archie and Liam
Archie and Rowan/Roman
Archie and Eric/Erik
Archie and Kade
Archie and Jonah

Sorry but I just wouldn't do it. He will be asked for his "real name" all of his life.
Flynn gets my vote

As much as I really don't like Flynn, I think it would make the better choice.
For a boy the only acceptable spelling is Sonny, not Sunny.

Hi,
I prefer Flynn and agree that Sunny sounds like a nick-name (nice as it is)... just be conscious that Flynn is getting popular so he may be one of many in his class...
Good luck with your decision!

Sonny should not be spelt Sunny. I love the name Flynn!

I love Sunny for a boy. Or a girl, for that matter.

Sunny is too girly. It reminds me of the character Sunny in Overboard, played by Goldie Hawn, (I loved that movie as a kid) and the song 'Sunny came home' by Shawn Colvin (I love that song). It's my daughter's nickname now.
If you don't like the spelling of Sonny, I'd suggest you find another name.
Call him Sonny and buy him a kangaroo for a pet

I have heard of a Sunny (for a guy name) from Hong Kong.
I prefer Flynn, though I suspect it will get more popular, being Miranda Kerr's DS's name.

I would use Sonny rather than Sunny if you like the name - it's the more usual spelling popular around 70 - 90 years ago as a boys first name. I had a Great Uncle Sonny and I adored him, so I guess I like it for sentimental reasons ...

Call him Jim, then you can have Sunny Jim

I also think Sunny is more feminine, Sonny makes more sense for a boy (although I still don't like it).

My xSIL named her son Sonny and Roy as a middle name (after my xBIL). I don't mind it at all, it is a name that I could see the parents going with.
My xBIL is a Musician and loves Sonny Boy Williamson (as do I) so I can understand the sentiment.

I have a Sonny Roy! It's suits his happy nature perfectly. We have never had any name confusion ie; is that his real name? I think Sunny is the female version. Don't listen to all the haters and go with what you love.
BTW Flynn is nice, but way too popular for my liking.

not really a name I can see a grown man with..
I would definately go Flynn... or even along the lines of Oscar, Angus etc...
Sunny just isnt a name in my opinion - sorry

I like Sunny, although for a boy I like it spelt Sonny.
I like Flynn as well.

Sunny is too feminine. I don't mind it, but definately spelt Sonny.
Sorry, I don't like Flynn.

I knew a family once with kids named Zoe, Sunny and Rusty.
I think Sunny's middle name was "Days"!!
I really wanted to ask if Rusty's middle name was "nails" but wasn't game enough

Sunny is a boy and it suited him very well, he was a cute little blonde boy.
If you and your husband both love it I think you should go with it. At our school we have some very unusually named children and the other kids don't bat an eyelid, they accept all and sundry.

Archie is such a great name. I think it really needs something with a bit more old fashioned style to go with it, eg, Leo. I think
My dad used to get Sunny/Sonny as a nickname as a kid as his name was Jim and for some reason (maybe because of a breaksfast cereal character according to this -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunny_Jim ) Sunny/Sonny Jim was a popular nickname back then.
So maybe James if you really want to use the nickname Sunny/Sonny?

I think I would go Sonny or Flynn with NN Sunny.

Wow and I thought my parents response was quite harsh!!!!
Thanks for all the advice, both positive and negative. I really don't know what to do as my husband has his heart set on it. Our 1st child is blonde with ringlets and big blue eyes and a really happy disposition so it is easy imagine another little boy looking the same and being named Sunny/Sunney. Knowing our luck we will probably have dark haired/eyed child this time!!!
Hmmm have four weeks left to decide! As a teacher I am also very aware of how cruel children can be......
Thanks again!

I LOVE the name Sonny for a boy but spelt like that.
I have a friend with a Sonny and no one picks on him for his name so I wouldn't worry about that.
I also like Flynn but it's getting quite popular so I would definitely go with Sonny over Flynn.

Darren Lockyer (Captain of the Brisbane Bronco's) called his son Sunny James.....
It is certainly not my style but I say if you both love it then go for it !!! I love different names.
I do also like Flynn though xo

DS is blond, blue eyed and very fair. DD has dark hair, is dark skinned (she does have the blue eyes though!)..

I love Sonny for a boy and Sunny (as a NN for Sunday) for a girl. Go for it. I would change the spelling to Sonny if you can bear to though.

I like it but maybe use it as a nickname. I was going to suggest Sonnet but I googled it and it's a girls name

. What about a name that ends in son
Orson
Tyson
Larson
etc
But if you love it then don't worry about what anyone says. If I was going to use it as the first full name I would probably spell it Sonny just to avoid confusion.

Sunny is a very Chinese Australian name for a boy...we have at least 10 at my school. I think it's too much like a nickname...
