HI ladies

Im pregnant with number 2....13 weeks, and need a girls name that goes with DD Ruby......the problem is, when i chose Ruby i hadnt heard of it much and was relatively uncommon, now its EVERYWHERE and i hate with a passion that its so common, i always wanted my kids to have different names

so for a boy we like Jett, thats the boys name we had from when i was pregnant with DD and we cant agree on another one

but we are stuck on a girls name, we both love Harper, but of course thats also becoming popular?

Names i love but either are becoming popular or DH doesnt like

Audrey
Poppy
Zahli - My absolute favourite by DH hates it, i LOVE it!!!
Allegra

any suggestions
coco100
I like Poppy.

Im not a fan of Audrey, I don't know why, everyone else seems to like it though! And Zahli i think sounds a bit 'made up'.
missymuffet
Poppy is pretty 'hip' these days so if you arent after popular Id drop that one.

How do you pronounce Allegra?

rubesmummy
allegra is pronounced

al-eg-ra

i think that sounds right!

it means "happy, joyful" in Italian. My last name is italian so kinda fits

yeah DH kinda feels that way about Zahli as well...so hard!
struppy04
I really like Audrey..! I am afraid it might become popular in the future?! Do not know any!

I quite like Zahli and it is not overly used.
Winterdanceparty
I love Italians, so Allegra for my choice. wub.gif Or Evangelista, Emmeline or Alessandra.
mad madam mim
Loralie
Lola
Aurora
Sabine
Melody
Avril
Josselyn
Freya
Greta
Cadence
Aurelia
TripleB's
I know of a Ruby with a sister called Clara.
*Daddys Girl*
Audrey - Love it
Poppy - Ok, but NMS
Zahli - Love this, my DH hated it too
Allegra - NMS

I like Harper too - It is becoming more popular but I dont think it will ever become top 10 like Ruby. Harper didnt make the NSW top 100 in 2010, but Poppy & Audrey did.

Jasmine?

Allegra is a perscription medication in the US so that's all I can think of, NMS through no particular fault of its own.

Poppy is pretty but not exactly obscure.

Audrey is kind of cute.

I don't care for Zahli.

Hmm, "different" covers a lot of ground.

I like, from a medley of backgrounds:

Amaranth
Zipporah
Aurelia
Sabine
Jael (pronounced Yael)
Saoirse
Shoshanah
Lorelai
Katerina
Delia
Niamh (pronounced Neve)
struppy04
I also believe that Harper will not make it into the Top 10.
vanessa71
From your list I love Allegra. Not a fan of the others.

I don't like Jett for a boy either, it's very trendy and will date. I don't really see Ruby and Jett together.

rubesmummy
thanks ladies, yeah harper is up there at the moment, and i think it goes well with ruby

i love Aurelia too, again DH not keen, mother in law loves it though coz its itatlian sounding!

quite like Zipporah too

someone tell me how to pronounce Saoirse?

i guess when i say different, i mean pretty different, as in poeple will say "wow never heard of that" but saying that dont want anything weird either

oh and you know what DH likes, wait for it........London......he watches too much "Americas Next Top Model"!!!
Milly22
Aubrey instead of Audrey, is very pretty in my opinion.

Saoirse is Seer-sha. I like the soft sound of it. It's Gaelic and means freedom.,
Gudrun
Pippin
Verity
Dimity
Hester

Oriel

My girls names sound 'common' but they are different in that their spelling relates to the heritage of the names

We have Kahli and Aerynn will be here in August.

Were you looking for different sounding or simply different looking? If different looking there's some BEAUTIFUL Irish/gaelic names out there wub.gif
Katieh1
I quite like most of the names you picked. I do like Zahli, as I have a niece with that name although her spelling is Zali. Her twin sister is called Anise...which is different and quite pretty.
mix match
I know a little girl called Winifred ( Winnie for short ).
Harriet is also pretty and not common.
ms bonny
Siobhan
Iris
Piper
Edwina (Edie)
Aerin

Also love Harriet and Zali as suggested by pp

I don't think so since it is traditionally a boys name.

If you don't want a popular name, i would really reconsider the name Jett then as its just EVERYWHERE at the moment.

From your list i think Allegra is just lovely wub.gif
Carls mummy x2
Poppy and Jett are everywhere as PPs have said.

I had Willow on my list and still love and I don't any
I know twins Ruby and Audrey so Audrey would be my pick from your list followed by Allegra.

Boys I love Koby (my sons name) and Tyde
kpingitquiet
Congrats!

I like Audrey/Audra. But I agree that Aubrey is more of a boy's name. I've only ever met male Aubreys. I also once knew a girl named Adree (maybe shortened from Adrianna?) and the name suited her to a T.
outofmymind
My friends daughters are Ruby and Ayla.
MamaP
Sounds like we have a similar taste in names OP!

My DD is called Poppy and this is my list for girls names for #2 (due in three months!) maybe it will inspire you:

Harriet
Freya
Saffron
Lola
Molly
Billie
Frankie

I'm liking Saffron the most at the moment but don't let it get out there ;0)

kboomba
I love Audrey and Allegra from your list, but am not convinced that Allegra 'goes with' Ruby. I also love love love Audra. Other suggestions:

Freya
Violet
Avery
Hadley
spellfall
I really like Alessandra with Ruby. Valentina is one of my all time favourite names and I think it goes well with Ruby.
~*MESS*~
Iris
Claire
Amelie/Millie
Lucy
Olivia
Kitty Fantastico
Allegra's gorgeous. But I too, don't think it "goes" with Ruby.

Poppy would be my choice.
pacificbaby
i really like Zahli
i have a friend with a ruby & lucy
~THE~MAGICIAN~
I love Ruby. Classical, elegant and beautiful.

To be honest I would go with another name that matches that. If you go for something too ususual your DD may grow up wondering why.

Harper is a surname or a boys name. Not a girls name.

Ruby and:

Charlotte
Amelia
Alice
Olivia
Hannah
mrsjessop
I like the PP's suggestion of Clara and think a 'funky old lady' name would go best with Ruby. Some suggestions:

Elsie
Jessamine
Mabel
Magda
Maisy
Pearl (if you wanted to keep the whole 'precious stone' thing going)
Sadie
Vivienne
Veronica
Wilhemina
Winnie

For a boy, I like Darcy or Leo.
bettymm
i love all the names on your list.

here are some others that might suit:

Olive
Willa
Ailish
Addison
Piper
Hazel
WyldIce

Freya
Aurelia

I love these two, especially Freya. It's different without being really weird happy.gif

Tabitha is another not to common one (a friend of mine considered this for her first DD)
Mummy Em
I like Charlotte, Keely (my daughter's middle name) and Saphron/Saphra in combination with Ruby. Ruby and Saphron are both colours. original.gif

If you like Zali you might like Mahalia or Amarah.
rubesmummy
Thanks everyone

yeah i know Jett is common, but for us boys names orignally were insanely difficult and we just cant come up with anything else, so Jett is it, and i dont mind it with Ruby wink.gif

I also LOVE Arden for a boy, again DH hates so back to Jett we go!

i love PP Amarah, Violet is also lovely because like ruby its an oldish name, Saphron is nice too.

With my last name (has an 'ra' as the last letters,) Poppy and Zahli go well because they dont compete, that the only problem with Allegra for me, two "ra" sounds at the end of each

Unfortunatley have friends with Charlottes and Olivia so they are out

illl be suggesting some of these to DH definatley!
envs
I think ruby would go with Amelie even though it's french
ingrid74
What about sticking to old fashioned with something like

Elsie
ellie_c
To continue the colour theme from Ruby... how about Teal/Teale. Very uncommon!

~ky~
My daughters are Ruby, Bella, Nikki and Alyssa.

My Ruby's middle name was Leisha which means happy. I think it suits Ruby.

BoyMaker
My friend has a Ruby and she had their second the other day and called her Violet
MelZa
There's a little girl at dd's kinder called Jazlyn, I adore this name, but 2 of my neices are Jasmine so thats out for us LOL

A few of my other names on the list are
Willow
Soraya
Kya
Nikita
Mischa

I like less common names too and our bub is going to be called Willow original.gif

jessf
If you like Alegra, what about Aleira (although not sure how it goes with your last name original.gif )
