Hi,

I just had my 20 week ultrasound last week and was told I am having twin boys. I have heard quite a few stories where they get the sex wrong. Has any of you had a wrong reading on your ultrasound.
Also I have only put on about 4 kilos so far, being 21 weeks. How about you guys?

Cheers Lucia

We were told we were having girls & yep they were right. We had lots of scans & the last 2 they said they were girls. Maybe you will have more scans along the way & you will get another peak.

I can't remember how much weight I gained! My sis is PG with ONE baby & is only just on 20weeks, & so far she has gained 11Kg's, so I think you are doing fine.

We got told a boy and ???

Every scan a boy and ???? and we got a boy and a girl!

I hear that boys are usually accurate because a penis is extremely easy to detect but sometimes they think it's a girl and the penis is hiding!

4kgs sounds fine!

All the best!

We were told girl/boy from the 20 week scan and all of the subsequent scans (basically fortnightly) confirmed that!

Cheers!

HI,

With my first 3 they wouldn't tell me what I was expecting(years ago) With no.4 they said a girl and it was. With the twins they said were boy's and they were too. I was told what this one is last week and only time will tell if it was right..lol

Congrats on expecting 2 beautiful little boy's!

We were told girl with our first..and they were right. At our 18 week scan with the twins it was quite confusing as babies were very very wriggly, so we first got told Twin 1 was a girl and Twin 2 he couldn't see properly yet. Later during the same scan he decided twin 1 was actually a boy, but we couldn't get a clear look at twin 2 still as it refused to co-operate. Next scan we had they said Twin 1 was a boy, and Twin 2 most likely a girl, at the next couple of scans it seemed again Twin 1 a boy and Twin 2 a girl which ended up being right. I think in the 18 week scan the babes were just too all over the place and he struggled to see which twin was which even for measurements at times, it was a very long scan...just under 2 hours in the end!

Hi!

I was told with DD1 girl, and there was absolutely no doubt that he was right, the wanton little ratbag spread her legs right in front of us, even DH and I could tell that she was a girl ROFL!

With the twins, we were told twin 1 definitely a girl, twin 2 should technically be a girl as he felt we were pg with identicals, but he refused to confirm twin 2 as being a girl. However he was right, they are identical and both girls!

I think that you can be reasonably sure of what you've been told now. At most scans if they aren't certain they wont tell you anything about the sex. That said there are always a couple that go the other way at birth LOL!

Hi Lucia
The midwife at our birthing classes said that the only way to know the sex of the babies for sure is to have an amnio. I personally don't think it's worth the risk, though.
I think twin mums-to-be are lucky - since, as Belinda said, we have more scans than usual and can do regular checks just to be sure! The new 3D scans are pretty detailed too. We have been told we're having 2 girls but I haven't gone overboard with the pink...just in case...

As for weight gain...I had put on 12kgs by 21 weeks and hid the scales! My weight gain slowed after that but as long as you're eating relatively healthy meals & the size of your babies is looking good, I don't think it matters how much you put on.
Good luck with the rest of the pregnancy!

I know of two cases of the wrong sex told at ultrasound. I had always heard with ultrsounds if its a boy and they can see his penis they can say 99% for sure, but girls they can only make an educated guess. My cousin had been told by 3 or 4 ultrasounds she was having a boy, but she had a girl. I had conflicting sex guesses for my twins, At my 20 week u/s I was told Twin A was a definte boy and Twin B a probable girl, at at 30 and 32 week ultrasond I was told Twin A was pretty definitely a girl (and it looked like a girl to me too) and Twin B probably and girl too.

We thought the later ultrasounds would be more definite as everything would be more developed, but it turned out the 18 week technician was right and we got a boy and girl.
