Hi luveys!!!!
I was wondering if you were able to tell me how many weeks gestation you made it to with your twins and a brief reason if any of what made it that early/late?
I suppose I am having the 27 week OMG jitters! Due for Anti D needle next week and have spoken to three twin mums in real life that made it to 32 weeks and I am thinking of so many things eg - car seats, picking up the prams, putting the cots together, a date for the babies shower, finishing work etc etc.....
I know you can all help - I also realise that everyone and every pregnancy is different.

Thanks in Advance!
Bree~28

32.2weeks.

My waters broke at 2.50am the day after our 32week ultrasound.

Given 1st steroid shot, flown to Canberra Hospital, given 2nd steroid shot at 4pm, drugs stopped, started contractions at 8.40pm, Haylee was born at 12.24am head first, weighing 3lb 5ozs (1510gms) & was 41cm long. Tianna was born at 12.34am breech, weighing 4lb 6ozs (1985gms) & was 44cm long. I wanted a c/s but Dr had other ideas.
I had severe pre-eclampsia with my first pregnancy & my son was born at 33 weeks. I was developing pre-eclampsia when my waters broke.
Best of luck with the next 10 weeks.

Cheers

Hi there
I made it to 30 weeks & a few days. I was going along fine, then one morning before I got out of bed I felt like I had a gush of wee, but I knew that it was my waters breaking! Yep it was.
I went into full on labour that could not be stopped & had my girls at 9:15 that morning. I freaked on the way to the hospital, b/c I knew it was WAYYY to early.
It was hard BUT now I have 2 very healthy little girls & would NEVER know they were 10 weeks early! They have caught up in all areas & have done very well.
The day before they were born, DH & I were moving furniture (well I didn't MOVE furniture). We had books & bookshelves, baby clothes & you name spread all over the house! It stayed like that for weeks. We were too busy being parents & being with our babies.
About a week before they came home, I got in & got their room already. The girls were in hospital for almost 7 weeks.
Just try & take it easy. Carrying twins can be very exhausting!
Good luck & I hope you make it past 36 weeks (lots of women do)

I got to 38 weeks. But, if you are thinking about getting things done, I would still say that you should do them sooner rather than later.
Just walking and finding a comfortable position to sit/sleep become a challenge for me let alone trying to to do anything much!
At the same time as saying this, I would also say not to stress about things too much. Enjoy this special time.
All the best,

Hi
I am at 35 weeks and 3 days today.. so hopefully i will make it another week or two. I have been off work since 26/27 weeks though and i think this has helped as i have been mainly relaxing and just slowly getting things organised. Good luck and take care!! It is very tiring in the last few months.

Hi Bree,
I got to 35 weeks 6 days before going into labour naturally. I would also say start finishing up your bigger projects now, pack your hospital bag early "just in case" and relax as much as you can, just walking can be such a chore by the end of your pregnancy!
Take care,

I got to nearly 36 weeks. Got up to go to the loo at 3am and my waters broke!
Two perfectly healthy little boys arrived by em. c/s at 6:55 and 6:57am. They were in the nursery being monitered for the first 3 days but Josh went straight to breastfeeding and Cam was only tube fed for the first day then caught onto the whole suck thing.
We were home in 7 days!

Hi Bree,
I made it to 38.5 weeks. At 38 weeks my ob did an internal examination and found I was 3cm dilated, booked me in for an induction a couple of days later. I went into labour naturally the next day and my girls were born vaginally 12 hrs later. Most Drs wont let you go much longer than 38 weeks with twins, you certainly wouldn't want to!!!
All the best for the rest of pregnancy and I would certainly get organised sooner rather than later.

I'm 27 weeks pregnant with twins as well! My babies are due on 10 April. I'm also worried about how soon they will be born. I feel totally unprepared. There's not a lot we can do about it though.
No_idea!

[color=Blue]I was 2 days short of making it to 37 weeks. I was booked in to have a c-section exactly 1 week later, but the boys had other ideas! ;p My waters broke at 7.00am on the dot, I was 4cm dialated by the time I got to the hospital and was in full labour and fully dialated as I was being wheeled into theatre at 10.30am! The boys arrived at 10.30am and 10.41 and were both so healthy they could come straight into the room with me.......... thought I would have had at least one night without them!! ha ha ha

If I were you (and not trying to put the fear of God into you) get everything ready now. It can never hurt to be too prepared. It's a whole lot better than not having things ready....... just in case you do go into labour earlier than planned.
With any birth you need to be prepared for anything, but that's especially the case with multiple births. I always laugh when pregnant women tell me what their plans are and that they fully expect everything to go as planned. I too was one of those people, but things don't always go the way you think they will!!

Take care, Vanessa

This is very useful information! Keep it coming ladies, these stories and thoughts are helping to keep me relaxed and calm IYKWIM.
Getting a little excited today have two very special appointments tomorrow - a date with Ob to check me over and a date with the baby shop to pick up the 2 car seats!! Yipppeeeee, a little step closer.
Also taken your advice Jo and am buying a new medium sized bag today to make my "hospital bag" Have only bought a packet of maternity pads, and toiletries so far LOL!
Thanks for the reassurance ladies! I am absolutly loving this pregnancy and cant wait to meet my "Suprises"!!!! I would trade the swelling feet though! Sitting here at work with them on a container and pillow!
Julie - Lovely to meet you, we have the same EDD!!! How cool is that.....have sent you a private message!

Hi Bree - I am an extreme case but I only got to 24+6 after PROM at 24+5. The DRs think I may have had an infection that caused it.
I was going to be prepared by 30 weeks, as everyone I spoke to said twins could come from then on. I had 3 friends who'd delivered at 29, 32 and 34 weeks that year, and the local AMBA group told me their average was about 34 weeks that year. I had had a baby shower and had big items on laybuy. My hospital bag things were in a pile on the nursery floor so DH only had to throw them in a bag. I agree with the others to finish getting ready as soon as you can - and don't risk delivering too early by working too long (yes I am still working at 29+4 with this singleton now but have reduced to 2dpw since xmas and do less here than chasing a toddler at home).

Hi! 34 weeks 6 days here, my OB booked me in for a c/s several weeks prior.
I was early because twin 2 had Inter Uterine Growth Restriction (IUGR) and it looked for the last two weeks prior to their birth that we were going to lose her. I had almost daily checks at the hospital either with my OB or in maternity to keep an eye on their heart beats. It was distressing at the time but I left most of the worrying in the hands of my OB who was better trained in these matters obviously LOL!
Get done what you can now, the last few weeks of any pg can leave you far too tired and uncomfortable to rush round getting things organised!

I am 30 weeks pregnant now and I am counting every week after this one as a bonus, even though all is well so far.
I still have to install the car seats (they're sitting on the floor in the babies room) & buy a pram at this stage. You guys have made me start packing my bags tonight - something I have been putting off - thanks for the kick in the pants I needed, ladies!!!

Hi I was exactly 30 weeks when I had my boys.
I had been in hospital on bed rest as I had high bp and an irritable uterus. I got out of hospital to go home on bedrest . The 27th of march arrived I had a show and had a few niggles went to my GP who accidently broke my waters

when he gave me an internal. Rang my ob who met me at the Wesley. They then transfered me to the Mater. Labour started

although at this stage my Ob gave me a drip to stop the contractions. just after 6pm all hell broke loose I had a partical upbruption of the placenta of twin 1 and I had emergency CS straight away. ( I was 6cm dialated) They were born weighing 1330 and 1380. They stayed in hospital for 58 days.
Good Luck and I am sure you will get to 35 weeks

29wks w/ an emergency c/s due to a perforated bowel of all things..but I'd already had 2 anti D's so their lungs were quite strong.
They were 2lb 2 & 2lb 6. and were in hospital for 59 days.
When they were born we were told they would be in until they were term but they came home 5 wks early & although prepared we had no carseats or pram organised.
As I was in for 19 days myself I have next to no memory of any of it, maybe fortunately because so many things were going very wrong for all 3 of us.
My advice is just try to relax, be as comfortable as you possibly can & as the other ladies here have said get it all out of the way while you can cause you just never know what tomorrow might bring!!

Hi Bree, your mind races during the last trimester doesn't it?! So many things to think about but try not to stress as it all gets done- either before, during or after the birth! I got my DH to put together the cots, change table and set up the nursery so we had most things set up but there are always things you find out later you need (we later bought a breast pump, steriliser etc) so just do what you can without overdoing it. I would definitely suggest organising your hospital bag so it's done and you don't have to worry about it.
My boys were born at 38 and a half weeks. At my weekly check up my obstetrician booked me in for an induction. I was supposed to spend one night in hospital to rest before being induced the following morning, but as soon as I sat on the hospital bed my waters broke and my boys were born that night.
Good luck, Maycee

I was induced at 35.4 weeks and delivered naturally. Babes were 6.14lbs and 5.8lbs and spent a little time in Special Care. I was told to rest or else I would go into prem labour. Well after spending the whole pregnancy running around after my very energenic 3 and 5 year old boys, I was grateful for the rest in hospital after the twins were born!!!! So much for getting that rest. Actually I'm glad I didnt have time to sit around all day and feel sorry for myself and how uncomfortable I was feeling.
I have to try not to laugh at me sister atm who is 22 weeks pregnant with #1. She hasn't stopped complaining since day one and we all have to hear about how this is the worse pregnancy on record for morning sickness, aches and pains. She gave me no sympathy at all when I was carrying TWO and looking after another two. Oh well, I'm trying to be understanding LOL

I made it to 36wks and 6 days. My waters broke at 4am on that Friday and my contractions were 5mins apart when I got to hospital. My twins were born at 7.35 and 7.36am. My girl was 6lb12oz and my boy 5lb11oz. They had no problems and came straight to my room with me.
I was the same as you. I had the jitters as well...had a lot of problems conceiving as well as throughout the entire pregnancy. I had my bags packed at 24wks, but then I realised that if I did go early, chances are the babies would have stayed in hospital anyway so I would be able to get those last minute things then. Don't panic, it will all fall into place...and then you'll take them home and wonder what's hit you !!!!!

Hi Ladies!
These stories are amazing! You are all making me feel like I am half in control and it wil all be fine! Thanks again.
Update from Ob today, that I am looking fantastic and the babies are doing really, really well. He seems to think its been a while since he has seen such a healthy twin carrier! (I love him) Spoke about pre term labour and he reassures me that i should safely see 35-36-37 weeks, unless there is medical evidence to suggest otherwise....Please keep the stories coming, it makes a wonderful read to see how amazing you all are!
We are the proud owners of 2 Merridan Safe & Sound Car seats!!! Yipppeee picked them up today. Although $910.00 poorer so very very happy.
Also said that I will have to give up work from 32-34 weeks definatly, to spend some time off these Odema ridden feet! LOL
Have a fantastic day! I am looking forward to reading more...

hi Goodluck for the coming weeks!!!! I made it to 38 weeks was a bit disapointed that I hade made it past the 36 week mark as for some reason I had it in my head that that's when most twins are born. In hindsight really glad I finished up work early( around 27/28 weeks) and got organised only left my bag till last was convinced once I packed it that my waters would break.
Went in for scheduled csection on the 8/5/03 didn't think the girls were ever going to make an appearance!!! Both were in special care nursery, the littler bub with lung problems. Home a week later to a very organised house. A definate advantage as you'll be busy enough coping with being a twin mum.
Take the time to rest and enjoy the peace until they arrive. a great time to catch up on movies etc and treat yourself to a few nice meals. They'll be few and far between once the bubs arrive.

33 weeks here. We only just made it back to Australia in time!
We moved back to Adelaide from Europe at 30 weeks, and had to organise a car, house, furniture, all baby gear etc etc. We thought we had all the time in the world, but we were still so disorganised when the babies were born. I'm so glad we made it back though, I can't imagine having my babies in Germany!
When I went into labour (waters broke early, probably due to twin-twin transfusion syndrome, nothing to do with the air travel) we were visiting DH's parents and had to get airlifted back to our hospital. Delivered naturally and with a very quick labour. They offered me an epidural, but there just wasn't time! Babies were 1.6 & 1.9 kg at birth and in hospital for 4 weeks.
Good luck. I really hope you make it to term! Having babies in NICU/SCBU is no fun!

I was induced at 37 weeks 1 day (after begging my OB and crying in his office 2 days earlier when suggested waiting another 4 days! seemed like a lifetime at that stage). Had a vaginal delivery (thank you epidural!) and the girls were healthy and came straight to the ward with me and we were home in 5 days. I was so worried about premature labour etc that I was too superstitious to buy anything until I was 28 weeks and then I was so huge and uncomfortable I couldn't do anything anyway! Like everyone else here I recommend getting everything organised as early as possible. I think that lots of rest (ie lying down) is the best thing you can do to help yourself in the last trimester (difficult if you have other children but if these are your first, relax! believe me it's the last chance you'll have for a while!).
Good luck

Hi Bree
My two were delivered at 28.5 weeks because one of them stopped growing. The problem was discovered when I was 25 weeks pg when I went for a progress u/s because I had preeclampsia. The obs wanted to deliever then. We said no because we would risk losing both babies delivering so early. So i sat in hospital with high blood pressure until the smaller twin started to fail and then they delievered. Jackson weighed 650g and Luca (who is a girl) weighed 1100g. Both babies spent 15 weeks in hospital before coming home.
We spent everyday at the hospital and because of this we were totally unprepared until the week before they came home where we had heaps of unpacking, setting up and washing. What a task that was so I recommend getting organised sooner rather than later.
Take care,
Peta

Hi Bree,
Just had a laugh at your comment about your swollen feet, i remember after the girls were born looking at my feet and being so sad that they were my elephant feet that i'd had during pregnancy, it takes a while for them to go down and when you see those first veins reappear it's fantastic!
My girls were born at 38+4 which was a day earlier than my planned c/s, but by around 36 weeks I was calling them the squatters and telling them to get out, even standing to do the dishes by that stage was bad enough never mind shopping of any kind and I lovvvve shopping! My best advice is to get everything done as early as you can, this helps with money if you have to give up work early and also if you do have any energy left towards the end you get to just add little extra's which is nice.
All the best
Heather

I was induced at 38 weeks , after having tttts at 26 weeks my aim was to make 30 weeks and after that was willing them to come , never imagined I would get to 38 weeks.
Twin 1 "the donor" was 2.95kg
Twin 2 " the recipient" was 2.90kg
They were born happy and healthy , the only hurdle was Tahlia had jaundice and was under lights for 1 session but that was in my room , they never left my side and I was home on day 5.

....sorry, a bit late intot his one, can't keep up with all the posts at the moment!
We made it to 33.4 weeks. All was going along pretty well but then I developed obstetric cholestasis, which is chronic itchiness and seems to be something to do with the liver, anyway I was having regular blood tests but I went into preterm labour and my girls arrived 6 mins apart, via natural delivery. Early but fine. Spent 4 weeks in SCN, which is probably the most difficult thing I have ever had to deal with. And they are going along great guns.
We go to a prem playgroup and that helps with a few development milestones, but all in all they have been wonderful babies...most of the time!!!!! lol

Bree, no signs that I can remember. Was fairly uncomfortable from week 30 and as I am a fairly small person, I don't think my stomach could stretch any further!! I had back ache for a few hours before my membranes ruptured, but other than that was feeling normal. Twin 1, who's membrane had ruptured may have been distressed, as there was meconium in the amniotic fluid. But, who knows. You wouldn't think that they were premature when you see them now.
All the best. Look forward to hearing how you go.

Hi, I got to 38wks with my twins, I was booked in for a c-section, as twin 1 was breech. I was very uncomfortable at that stage and don't think I could of went much longer than that.
Nathan arrived first at 3.1kg (6p 14) and Amy 2mins later at 2.9kg (6p 7) they were both very healthy.
I can't beleive they have just turned 2, it has all gone so fast.
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy

Hi, i made it to 39 weeks exactly after being induced. I was so uncomfortable by this stage, but am so glad i made it as my boys were really healthy - Aidan was 3kg 50grams and Keenan was 3kg 15 grams. I finished work at 26 weeks as i was told i had to so i could rest and am so glad i did because i think that is the main reason that my boys ended up so healthy! I was pretty much from 30 weeks counting every week as a blessing, but by 36 week i was dreading every day as i was the size of half a house!! My stomach now is slowly going down and it is so good to be out of maternity clothes!!

Hi ladies - fairly new here and found this discussion.
I made it to 39 weeks exactly. I was sooooo uncomfortable - had damaged my back before I fell pregnant with them so it was killing me by then. I had begged them to be taken at 36 weeks for that reason - my gp agreed, paed agreed, hosp ob didn't. aarrgghh. Anyway I had a c-section due to both being breech. Nicole was first at 7lb 9oz, and Kyle was a minute later at 8lb exactly.
Wouldn't trade them for the world now.

Hello,
I was 32wks and 5 days, my waters broke at 11:30pm 7th june day after DD turned 2. Felt only braxton hicks all day (well thats what i was telling myself!!!) Flew to the hospital by DH and was about 4 cm dilated. within maybe an hour fully dilated and Jordan was ready to come out head first 2:56am,weight- 2.215kg and Brock was transverse he had to be turned completly!!! He then entered the world 3:11am weight-1.860kg. They were in special care for 3 weeks where i was going in every day to bring my breast milk to them (longest 3 weeks of my life!) but they are both very big healthy breast fed boys who are crawling around everywhere.
good luck with it all

i was going for my 36 week fetal monitoring appointment when, the dr and midwife said twin 2's placenta was working well. i was admitted in hospital that day which was on the 11th february 2005. i was being induced to deliver the twins. it was scary, but i had a normal vaginal delivery, and twin 2 is in hospital for 2 weeks and twin 1 home. i am not coping at all. iam really depessed and keep crying after i see her. i feel she isnt mine, is this normal?

i was 35 weeks when my water broke at home - started having contractions but due to the boys both being breach had to have a c section. my ob was planning on taking them at 37 weeks but they had other ideas. i knew i was having a c section from quite early on though because every time i saw my ob he would do a scan and say that they had not changed positions.
both boys were born within 4 minutes of each other -william was 5lb 10 and alexander 4lb 12oz.
the boys were in hospital an extra week longer than me and let me tell you - that was the hardest day having to leave them behind. i cried all the way home.
good luck with the pending arrival of your little miracles.
