Hi Ladies!

We have decided to go with the baby shower idea and I am having a selected list of things that we would like from certain places, to make it easier for people and their budgets.

Was wondering if you have any reccommendations for books that deal with the babies/first years/foods/toddler taming/ school years etc etc????

Is there any particular books that you have used or seen that are devoted to multiples?

Any help would be great - I would love the names of them so I can pre warn Angus and Robertson of my intent.

Thanks in advance ~ You ladies are great!!!

I loved reading "TWINS, a practical and emmotional guide to parenting twins" by Katrina Bowman and Louise Ryan.

It was recommended by some lovely ladies in this thread. Still have in on my bedside drawers and read it all the time.
The only thing I found was that the ladies that wrote it didnt have other children, so some things weren't revelevent for me. Still great for the basics.

I agree with Dolph,.I loved that book too.

I also used the Baby Love book by Robin Barker. It's not particularly for twins, but was my bible for the first while there.

The "what to expect series are good too, that follow on from What to expect when you are expecting. I have the toddler years book of that one. It is pretty expensive, but worth it again just to refer to here and there.

Hi Bree

I replied yesterday to your Baby Shower post and then read this today and realise now that you have already made your decision! What fun it will be!

If you have someone to organise some games for you, it can make it a really fun day. Some games that I have played at baby showers are –

· Unscramble the words – give each guest an A4 Paper with some scrambled “Baby” words for them to unscramble ( ie dummy, nappies, epidural, caesarean, booties, bottle etc) and give a prize to the winner, the first to finish - chockies or something.
· Guessing competition – Give each guest an A4 page of questions about you and your hubby and your bubs-to-be and again give the winner a prize. It’s usually the mums and MIL’s that win this one which is always nice as it makes them feel important. Questions can be like due date, when you met, wedding date, or silly things like your first dog’s name etc
· You can also get someone to collect 20c or more from everyone and have them guess the day they are born, the sexes, the weight and size and give the kitty to the winner or if you feel funny taking money from them, just have it as the winner getting a prize or first hold of the babies?
· You can also set up teams and have someone prepare some nappies with different things in them for each group to smell and guess and again give the winner a prize. This one can be a little gross with some of the things I have smelt!
· You could have everyone take a piece of string and cut it to the size they think you are and then you measure each one to yourself and the closest is the winner who also gets a prize. It depends how big I am if I will do this one, I might get embarrassed!

I was planning to have my baby shower at 32 wks but after reading everyone else’s posts, I think I might bring it forward to about 29 weeks.

As far as books go, my husband bought me a book for Christmas on twins and multiple births. I am half way through it. It goes from pregnancy, birth up to the teenage years I think. It is written in the UK, so some stuff isn't relevant but it’s pretty interesting. I can't remember the name and the author but will look at home and let you know.

I have also heard that “Baby Love” is good as well as “Up the Duff” and the “What to Expect” series. There is another that a friend of mine has that she is going to lend to me until I can find my own. It’s a twins and multiples one and I think it's an Australian version. She says it's her bible. When I get that one, I'll let you know the name etc too.

Sorry to ramble….. Will come back to you soon….

Hi again Bree

I looked up the titles and authors of those books I suggested.

The one I have is "Twins and Multiple Births" by Dr Carol Cooper and the one that my friend suggested that is her bible, is "Twins - A practical guide to parenting twins" by Katrina Bowman and Louise Ryan..

Hope this helps and make sure you keep in touch and let us know how your baby shower goes!

Hi ladies!

Thanks very much for the replies! I will print them out and go armed to the bookstore.

We have decided to do it and have started the list of the people we want. We are calling it "the drinks before the Twins". Lots of family and work friends so it will get to a bit of a party LOL. Going to have it at home so BYO drinks and Chair!!

I am looking forward to it - I made the list and now my Bridesmaids are doing the rest! I love that idea.

Thanks for all your help!

Bree........
