Hello,
I am after a few suggestions for unique girls names. DD's name is Kiani. We havent decided if we will find out the sex yet, but a boys name is decided. Middle name if the new bub is a girl would be either Elle or Jane. I really dislike names like Annabelle, Isabelle, Harper, Willow etc
Dh likes Nicola, but im not 100% on it and dont think it goes that great with DD. So if you would like to help and throw some suggestions our way it would be great

You would of course have to make up a name for it to be unique and even then you might discover there are others. Nicola is a very good name so I wouldn't discount it but I too would still look for names that might sing a little better with Kiani.
Other 'N' names that aren't too common which I think go:
Nyree Jane
Neisha Jane
Naomi/Noemie Jane
Naantali Jane
Neroli Jane
Nandalie Jane
Nyah Jane
Nika Jane
Nala Jane
I'll leave it to others to come up with 'other initial' names.
ETA Nika could be a NN to Nicola.

Can I suggest Jane as a first name? I think it is such a fabulous name and so under used these days. I know you said you are after something unique, but I think with Jane you get a name that classic and easy to spell with a hint of retro cool and chances are she will not come across another Jane at school or in her peer group. You can't get better than that

I also love Jane and agree it is unusual as a first name now!
How about Nerida? I believe it's of Aboriginal origin and is very pretty.

I love Zali, but DH put a very quick stop to that, it was on my list of ages

I would also love to use Nala/Nahla but I think everyone would think it was from The Lion King as it is my fav kids movie and we used songs from it for our wedding. May look a bit obsessed

Mahalia is also very nice and along the lines of what we are looking for.
I should of added in the original post we dont want to use name starting with an S as our last name starts with an S.
Thanks for the suggestions so far, please keep them coming

Nyssa \n(ys)-
sa\ as a girl's name is a variant of Nissa (Hebrew) and Nysa (Greek), and the meaning of Nyssa is "to test; goal, ambition".
The baby name Nyssa sounds like Nessa, Neysa, Nessy, Nessah, Nasya, Nasia, Nessya and Nessia. Other similar baby names are Lyssa, Nevsa, Nesta, Lissa, Anyssa, Assa, Dessa, Lyssi, Lysa, Jessa, Neryssa, Naryssa, Nesha, Nya, Nykia, Nydia, Nyla, Nilsa, Nyna, Nisha, Nitsa, Rysa, Tassa, Tessa and Tossa.

Hmmm, I do agree it isn't a great match with Kiani, I wasn't thinking about matching when I posted. But for me it is actually the opposite, Jane stands out as a fabulous name while Kiani, although quite pretty, slips into oblivion amongst the trillion and one other similar names which all sound made up. Sorry OP.
I do like the suggestion of Michaela and I think Nicola is a lovely choice and it isn't too bad as a sibset with Kiani. Although they are very different names they both have a hard 'k' sound which ties them together somewhat. And remember that children won't always be known as part of a sibset, there names have to work as as their own first and foremost.
Anyhoo I do think Nicola Jane or Michaela Jane are both lovely choices.
All the best OP

I think Kiani has a very ethnic feel so keeping that in mind:
Leilani
Alani
Mali
Lorelei
Amala
Asha
Jaya
Leela (I knew a little Sri Lankan girl with this name once and I think its so pretty)
Nisha (also know a gorgeous lady with this name)
Mika
Aisha/Aysha
Someone previous suggested Nyree, I'd suggest the traditional Maori spelling of Ngaire (pron. the same)
I like the suggestion of Jyoti, maybe Priya is another one.
Some of these names have the most beautiful meanings

Lol thats ok Ingrid, my Dh actually found Kiani's name in a very popular name book and fell in love with it. When we googled it, depending on which site you look at it is of Irish origin, or a popular Hawaiian Name. Also we wanted a different name as our surname is VERY popular and didnt want out kids to go to school and know X amount of other kids with the exact name. I know 4 other people with the exact name as DH, due to the popularity of his first name and surname.
Thank you all for your replies, there are some very good suggestions. I mentioned a few to DH last night. Nala being one and he said "what so we can go again and call the next one Simba" I knew he would think of the Lion King straight away. But there is a couple im hoping to twist is arm on.

I was the Kiani to my sister's Jane.
I spent my childhood soooo bitter about having the weird name no one could pronounce and was never on pre-made stationary.
Just throwing that out there. Still not a great sibset, I'm in favour of theming all unique or all classic or all ethnic to weed out rampant sib-jealousy.
Some unusual names I like the sound of: Calyx, Jadeite, Amarantha, Tourmaline, Ixora.

Our Surname is also an 'S' name and our DD is named Reese Kaia. Apart from the obvious Reese Witherspoon, I haven't come accross any other girls named Reese and get lots of positive comments on it.
