Someone from the June due in thread suggested that I post here. I have just found out that I am expecting twins. I am the only one so far in the June thread (I think?) so it is nice to read stories of others in the same boat. I have been reading some of your stories and everyone sounds so lovely. I noticed that Tryingforfirst3 – Bree has posted. Do you remember me? I remember you from the clomidians thread in TTC. Glad to hear everything is going well for you.

Just a bit about me – We have been TTC since May ’03 and I got my BFP on my 4th cycle of clomid. There is a higher chance of multiples on clomid but my father is also a twin, so it could be hereditary as well, who knows?

Now for my question. I have just come back from a developing country in Asia and thought that I had picked up a stomach bug as I had intense abdominal pain. I still have it 4 weeks later, 3 normal stool tests later (sorry tmi) to rule out giardia, an ultrasound to rule out gallstones and a urine test to rule out urinary tract infection. My GP now thinks it might be irritable bowel syndrome. The senographer at the hospital said that she sees loads of women with bowel probs in pg. I thought maybe the multiple aspect may be a contributor. Anyone else experience this?

I look forward to getting to know you all!

Hi & congrats on your pregnancy.

Your bowel problems, can't help sorry. I just got an itchy rash around 31 weeks & had my girls at 32.2weeks.

Congrats again & feel free to ask anymore questions.

Hi and congratulations on your twin BFP!

I am not much help with the abdominal pain question.. I did have crampy tummy pains (like mild period pain) for a while early on - until about 8-9 weeks I think - but that seems fairly common in pregnancy. It did worry me alot at the time and after a tiny amount of spotting and low HGC levels I was sure at my first OB visit they would tell me there was something wrong.. instead they told me I was having twins!

Wishing you a long and healthy pregnancy!

Kate

Welcome Drew

This time last year I was also in a "Due in June" thread (edd was 28.6.04). I now have two beautiful 6 month old babies, a girl and a boy (and two older boys)

I can remember some crampy pains at this stage but I also had shocking morning sickness and my stomach ached from throwing up all day. Ask you OB for piece of mind.

I didnt make it to June but was excited to get to just over 35 weeks. I also wanted these twins to be Gemini so didnt mind that they were born when they were. (lol as if it matters??)

Good Luck

Hi Drew!!!! Wow welcome over to Twin world!!! Yipeeee what an achievement!!

Thanks for the mention in your post and of course I remember you! I am going well and very happy to be part of this wonderful group, the ladies here are wonderful and always so very helpful....

I can't help either with the abdominal pain, but can tell you that I suffered no morning sickness but did suffer from the big "C". There is a nutrician specialist in my due in group and she gave me some good high fibre recommendations and the daily drink of Metamucil, keeps me well now.

I am hoping that it turns out to be nothing and would also encourage you to get to your Obsetrician to get it all checked out - after all 4 weeks is a long time.

Look forward to sharing this exciting journey with you - feel free to PM me at any time!

Keep sane and Well

Hi again ladies and thank you Justine, Kate, Renee, Dolph and Bree so much for your congrats and welcomes. The piccies of your bubs are adorable!

Thank you also for your offers of support and your experiences.

I am happy to hear that you have had no m/s Bree, lucky you! Also because after my visit to the hospital (did I mention this in my last post? This is where I found out about my twins when they were conducting an ultrasound on my organs – My hospital visit was due to nausea ? -m/s or stomach pains?, no appetite, 5kgs weight loss in 3 weeks and my body had gone into starvation mode, so my GP admitted me for IV fluids, rest and testing. They gave me category A antibiotics for what they thought was a urinary tract infection, which it wasn’t!) and my severe ALL DAY m/s stopped abruptly the next day and I am a bit panicked about it. DH has read that it can stop at 10 wks and not to worry. The fact that you haven’t had any Bree, eases my mind a bit. Boobs are still very sore, so at least that is something.

I had my first OB appt last night and he is very nice, so I am happy. Although I imagine it is the same for all, it felt a bit like he was rushing us out and I still had loads of more questions that I didn’t feel like I could ask. I asked if we could tell people and he said that he thinks we should wait until after our 12 wk NT scan, which was disappointing as we were going to break the news over the weekend at 11 wks. He said that there is a much higher risk of miscarriage with twins and that we should wait. He also told me to hop up on the bed so he could have a feel of my tummy as it should be rising above the pelvis? by now with twins. He said he couldn’t feel anything (it’s not there yet) which worried me further. So I am on a bit of a downer at the moment. He also didn’t really take much interest in me talking about my abdominal pain. He just said that there is probably no point going to a gastro specialist that my GP has referred me to as I can’t have a colonoscopy being pg.

Sorry if I sound neurotic, but I am counting the days until the NT scan and hope everything is alright. I don’t feel pg other than sore boobs and tired, no appetite, cooked foods turning my stomach and mild nausea every now and then but that could be the stomach probs doing that? I don’t think I am showing, I have a bit of a tummy anyway.

How did you guys feel at almost 11 wks, if you can remember? I know that negative thoughts are bad for the bubs so I am trying to be positive…..

Just wanted to let you know that I was always small in size for dates in terms of fundal height. At our first OB visit at 11 weeks he felt my tummy and then we queried due dates because I was so small (and we had low HGC levels and I knew the GP's dates were wrong)... then he did the ultrasound which was when we discovered twins! But right up until the TTTS started at 26 weeks both babies were measuring perfectly normal for size so while I was small they were fine... if a bit squishy.

I'd make sure that at your next OB visit you ask every question - if you still feel like you are not getting the time and answers you want then perhaps look for another OB? Also have you got the Twins book - that really helped with some of those questions I felt silly about asking.

Oh and our OB suggested we not tell anyone we were having twins until after our first big ulstrasound - in our case there was a possability there was no membrane between the babies wchich would almost certainly mean loosing one or both babies so we were advised not to celebrate until we knew for sure what we had and how they were. So perhaps this is a standard response??

And you don't sound neurotic at all.. you sound just like me! I walked around for weeks going 'I can't be pregnant I don't feel pregnant' until DH would remind me that I was puking and exhausted and that was exactly whatt he books said I'd feel like in the first trimester! I also didn't show at all for a looooooooong time!

Oops this has turned into a long post not a quick one but hope it helps put your mind at ease somewhat...feel free to post more questions the girls hear are all lovely and have helped me so much, or PM me if you need a chat!

hugs

Kate

Hi Kate…sorry for my delayed reply. I have been having trouble logging on to the site.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give me some of your experiences and advice, it has really helped! I let my hubby know that you also were told not to celebrate until after the 12 week ultrasound. He feels a bit more positive now too. In my 9 and ½ week ultra sound, the sonographer said that it was a lower risk twin pg since the babies are separated by a distinct membrane, so in separate sacs. So I gather that is positive. Thanks for your experiences on this.

No I haven’t bought any twin books yet. I think it’s all still sinking in. I think after the 12 wk ultrasound I will though. Which one have you found to be the best and most useful?

I will take your advice and ask ALL my questions at the next appt with my OB. At our last visit, he was running late by 45 mins and trying to get into the city probably for a Xmas do, so I felt guilty asking questions and keeping him back. I hope I don’t feel like I am being rushed next time, otherwise I might take your advice and find another one.

Thank you again so much and to everyone else that has replied. Please excuse my ignorance, but what does PM mean? I have been on this site in the TTC section for about 4 months and have seen others refer to this but never asked what it is….sorry for the dumb question…..

I popped out at 11 weeks & felt movement around then but didn't get told it was twins until I was 12.6weeks.

PM means Private Message which is located at the top of you reply. There's a box with PM on it. It's like getting an email but it's through here.

Hope that's helped.

Cheers
