Please do not hurt me... I am just feeling it out and I know some people will think I'm mad but it really does go with our last name so well...so here goes:
Fox
it's for a boy. Yes x files fan, be gentle people.

I'm not a fan, of X-Files or the name Fox. But hell, I've seen worse names thrown around here lately.

A friend used this as a middle name and I thought it was quirky. I don't think it's horrendous.

I don't like it and I associate it with meaning sly or sneaky as in "you old fox". Sorry OP.

Hmmm...dont like it....than again, I'm not the queen of unusual children's names..
*lilmiss*
20/03/2011, 03:11 PM
Probably not as a first name. It may seem cute when they are little, but i always think of the future... will they get picked on at school, what about high school/teenage years, and especially as an adult, what if he becomes a professional/high flyer in his chosen career, can you imagine the chosen name on a business card and would they be taken seriously? eg. "Fox Jones, CEO" or "hello, this is Fox speaking"
Definitely an option for a middle name though

No worries, thanks for your feedback. I guess I should explain myself - I really like unusual names, I would like my child to have a unique name, perhaps the only one in their class with that name.
My husband thinks no way because it is an animal, but can i offer if with my last name:
Fox Goodchild
He could be an author? Or just cool?

How about Felix and using Fox as a NN maybe??
I see it only as a last name as I went to school with a guy who's last name was Fox.

This could possibly be the wine talking but I quite like it.

20/03/2011, 03:16 PM
ooh yes that does sound like the name of author!

Perhaps having it as a middle name, but using it as a nickname? I have friends who called their DS Daniel Peter, but he is known to everyone as Peter or Pete... also gives him the option when he is older to choose which name he will go by.

It;s not usually my style to name children nouns, but as an 'X-Phile' myself, I can see the appeal of 'Fox Goodchild'

In my 'I wouldn't really do this but...' fantasy world, I'd have a future son called Joss so who am I to judge TV inspired naming

20/03/2011, 03:20 PM
Yes! I am drumming up support here, got to show my husband (hope it's not the wine script).
Ok I think I know where everyone is going, nn is probably best, I do think of a cat with Felix though. But yes nn is the way to go or mn?
How about Noah Fox Goodchild?
Does that go nicely?

It's not a name I would use myself, but I think it is quite cool - probably has a lot to do with the fact that I know a gorgeous little boy with red curls with the name Fox. Really suits him. I think people grow into their names, and despite being different, it doesn't mean that it can't be the name of a CEO, etc.

I say go for Fox Goodchild. The name is simple yet distinctive. You already know it suits 'your sort of people'. There doesn't seem to be much point in sticking it in the middle and putting an 'everbody' name in front in your case.
I never really watched X-Files but when an OP posted 'Fox Jones, CEO', I was won over. A name of distinction any way you look at it and easy-peasy too.
I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to give this world a Fox Goodchild.

One of my dear friends named her son "Fox" last year -- they are Florida surfie types, and the little dude carries the name so well.
Wolf is a family name for me, so I've always had a soft spot for it.
Noah Fox Goodchild nn "Fox" might be a good compromise. Or you could just go for broke & name him Fox.

I vote for the latter! I love to see people venture outside the top 20 (or in this case, the top 2000!)

This is great stuff! My husband has red hair so imagine if our son had red hair too and was Fox! It would be just like that little boy Leo74.
By the way I should probably mention I'm not pregnant yet, but I have been having a look at all the threads and thought I would start getting feedback now as we might start next year.

Prefacing this with the fact I don't like unique names but far prefer real nouns as names than made up words.
Verdict:
I actually quite liked it when your wrote your OP. Then you shared your surname and now I love it.

I'm not a huge fan of 'unique' names in general - but I have to admit Fox Goodchild sounds pretty cool. It is infinitely better than making up a name.
I say go for it. I quite like the idea of living in a world that contains a Fox Goodchild!
Although I get it is kind of ironic that you are getting quite a few 'I wouldn't, but go for it' responses. Be brave because I can't!

Fox Goodchild is tres cool, and this is from a person who generally favours quite traditional, classic names. It would be great to have the name sorted before pregnancy hormones complicate matters

Being named "Wolf" certainly hasn't hurt the career of 63-year-old Wolf Blitzer of CNN. Fox on the right old man would be great. Certainly more distinctive than a lot of names out there.

I have some reservations, mainly because it's a big name to live up to. He could be an author, yes...or he could be an accountant.
If you like short, punchy names with attitude, what about my favourite boy's name - Rex.
