I thought maybe another sticky post was in order regarding sleeping arrangements for your twins. Please share what worked for you.

Here is what we did ...

* 0-3 months - same cot, side by side, ...

Changed from this position when Erin started to get her arms out of her wraps and hit Matthew (some things never change original.gif). Some days sleeps in rockers in living area.

* 3-10 mths - same cot, end to end (feet towards middle) - I know this is against SIDS guidleines, but by this stage we had figured that they were boths movers UP the bed, so were not going to end up under covers.

* 10 mths - 2 years - separate cots same room

* 2yrs - until who knows when - still sharing a room, in toddler beds, often found like this...

Hi Jo,

I had my girls in their own cradles for a few mths, then I put them in the same cot to they were about 6-7mths, then they were bothering each other too much, so they have their own now.

Where did you get the toddler beds? As it was only the other day that Ebony jumped out of the cot, I don't know how she did it but thank god she just frightened herself and ME . She hasn't done it since but I am so paranoid.

After we bought the boys home, they slept in the same cot side by side until about 4 months, when they could fling their arms out of their wraps and clonk their twin. So one would startle upon opening the door, hit the twin, that one would startle then, and hit back, and both would be screaming. (LOL but not at the time)

We used all the pillowcases we were given, and put them flat under their heads, changed them when they were drooled/puked on. It saved washing sheets!

We then moved them to seperate cots, but had the cots always meeting at some point so they could see each other, until they were old enough to reach thru the bars and hit the other and wake them. So now the cots are seperated, but situated so they can see one another IYKWIM!

At 22 months they are still in cots, with no move to beds in sight, as they never stay still, they are wrigglers, and make it their first aim once in bed to kick all blankets and sheets off!

I have never had a single problem with one upset baby waking the other, they will sleep thru each others crying, but as soon as any foreign noise comes they will wake, ie trying to change most quietly a nappy, and the wipes packet crinkling will wake them, but high decibel screaming they will sleep thru!

Others that have had the problem of waking each other have a permanent set up travel cot in a seperate room, so that in the event of a upset twin, the other can be moved without much disturance to a quieter, less disruptive quarters!

During the day i always slept my 2 in their cots, as well as at night!

Hope someone may find my experience helpful!

Hi we put our twin girls in there own cot from day one. I guess being my first babies never really thought of putting them together at the time. As shannon the second to be born had to have an opp straight after birth she was in hossie for a little while (and so was ashlee and myself) so when it was time for ashlee and myself to go home, ashlee was sleeping on her own and this was the case at the hospital so i guess in our situation it was hard. So after bringing shannon home they just slept on there own. Sometime i wish i had of put them together they might be more closer. cos they fight all the time.

Hi everyone. I put my girls in separate bassinettes. One on my side of the bed and one on DH's (so there was no excuse for him not to help out overnight-lol) until they were 6 months old when I moved them into separate cots in a shared room. I find that they keep each other awake though and egg each on to scream and yell. I wish I could afford a bigger house!!! They're still in cots for now because if I put them in beds they'd just keep climbing out. It's hard enough to get them to sleep now. I am curious as to how many sleeps your twins were having at 15 months though. One isn't enough for my girls but they just won't have 2 so I either have cranky girls in the morning or cranky girls in the afternoon!

Mine slept in the same cot until about 4 months. This picture is still one of my favourites, it was taken when they were 14 weeks old.

I don't have any pics set up - I love all of your photos guys! so gorgeous......

when my boys came home from hospital they were in bassinettes, one each, because we could only just fit two cots in the bedroom LOL! mainly though because Riley had quite bad reflux & needed his mattress raised on an angle, so there was no way they could have slept in the one cot/bassinet anyway.

at about 4 months old ( I think blush.gif) we moved them into a cot each, same bedroom (thankfully we moved house.......). When they turned 2 they went into big beds, same bedroom. We have had all sorts of problems getting them to stay in bed, until we started putting a gate across their bedroom door. SO they can see out but can't get out - well, they could if they really tried, but it seems to deter them & they don't even bother trying anymore. PHEW!!
So that's my story - hope it helps !! original.gif

Cheers !!

When I was ready Amy's post I thought I was reading my own at first .

The Girls were in seperate Bassinets on each side of our bed until about 8 weeks when they went into their own room still in bassinets at about 4 mnths they were getting too big for bassinets , I only had 1 cot so they both went in there end to end heads in middle , this only lasted 1 night as they were vertually head butting in the morning , went out and bought a second cot they were still sharing a room . At 18 mnths they went into their own single beds but have been known to crawl into bed with each other on several occasions and the below pix is the latest time they were found together on holidays at christmas time .

They still share a room but only because we only have 3 otherwise they would now be in their own rooms.

My boys slept in seperate cots from the day we bought them home from NICU (31 weekers). I always had the intention that they would share a cot but since they had been in seperate humidicribs and cots in hospital I thought I would continue that at home as I didn't want them to get too attached to sleeping together and then have to seperate them when they got too big.

At about 7months of age we actually put them in seperate rooms as they were waking each other during the night and we were getting up constantly ( one night I got up 15 times in the space of 2 hours). This worked wonders and they started sleeping through not long after.

They are now 2.3 years old and I have set up their big boy racing car beds in their rooms but I can't get them to sleep in them. Every night I ask "do you want to sleep in your big boy bed tonight" answer "no that bed mum" and points to the cot. We wil just keep trying one day they will say yes, we're not in any rush.

When we were in hospital, Nathan and Amy shared a double bassinet. We were there for a week and when we got home they had a cot each. They did wake each other occasionally but you get that. They still have a cot each and share a room. If they are awake together they will sit a look and laugh at each other. So cute.
I think when they move from cots to beds my daughters will then share a room and Nathan will get a room to himself. Have to see how that will turn out.

My babies are now 8 months.
They have always been in separate cots in the same room.
At the beginning they were in snuggle beds in the cots. This worked really well. Especially staying over at Grandmas house only had to take the snuggle beds and put both on a single bed, rather than lugging the porta cots around.
Now, I am tossing up whether to put their cots into separate rooms. Jonathan is a terrible sleeper. He often wakes up or unsettles Jessica!
My other problem is my 3 year old daughter Madeline. She is a very early riser. She more often than not goes into the twins room and wakes them up.!! No level of chastising seems to help deter this.
Am sorry I dont have any cute piccies.

Hi Ladies,

My boys were in the same cot when we came home from hospital, and remained together for about 6 months. I've always used the cot at night, pram etc by day rule for sleeping patterns, so during the day I would put them both in either my old Emmaljunga or the baby hammock for the first couple of months, then when they got to be too big to be in together, I used one in each during the day.

They went into beds around their first birthday (because they were climbing out of their cots), and it's pretty rare now to find them asleep in their own beds come morning time ... they are either both in the one bed together (usual) or they've swapped beds completely !

I envisage they'll be sharing a room pretty much forever (or at least, until the older ones move out ... which is a LONG way away - lol !)

Cheers,
Louise

My twin boys Nicholas and Matthew are 10 mths old
and have slept in seperate beds since day 1.
in hospital they were in seperate cribs, Matthew spent first 24 hrs in special care.
and went into seperate cradles when we got home till about 6mths.
are now in their own cots but have always been in the same room.
Have never really had trouble with them waking each other up.
I occasionally put them in the same crib at night if they were unsettled when they were newborns.
during the day they were in rockers in the family room.

We put out girls in the same cot, feet at opposite ends and heads towards the middle but at 7 weeks they both had colds and we put them into their own cots so that we could raise the head of the bed to make it easier for them to breathe. Also they had started to wriggle towards each other and I was worried they were going to headbutt each other. Their cots are next to each other so they can see each other. They're still real wrigglers - I don't know why I bother with blankets - they're always down the other end of the cot within an hour! But they sleep 11 or 12 hours anyway so I guess they're not bothered - I just make sure they have on warm pyjamas with feet.

Hi everyone!!

My two boys slept seperate in the hospital, but when they came home i put them in the same cot.
This worked for about 3 or 4 weeks untill Jordan got reflux and kept bringing up his milk all over his brother, who slept right next to him!!
I ended up having to put jordan in a bassinette, and the doctor suggested putting bricks under one side so he wasnt sleeping flat on his back, this really helped his reflux!! In a couple of weeks it was gone.
I then moved jordan into his own cot,but most of the time they slept on rockers in the lounge room because they had trouble sleeping on there backs and the only way i could get 30 mins peace was to let them sleep in their rockers.
At about 6 months old i tried sleeping them on their tummies,i didnt like doing this, but they wouldnt stay asleep any other way.
The first time i put them on their tummies i was so worried and checked them every 10 mins. They slept for 2 whole hours for the first time ever and it was excellent!!!
They slept in seperate cots until they were about 3,and now they each sleep in a single bed but they are still in the same room.
They are 4 yrs old now and will be 5 in november.

Sorry its so long,i get a bit carried away sometimes.
What can i say? I love talking about my boys!!!

Thanks for reading,

Firstly, thanks everyone for the photos. How perfectly beautiful. Brings back so many memories and makes me clucky for more babies!

My twins slept in the same cloth until 4 months old when they started moving a bit more in their sleep and subsequently bashing their sister in their sleep.

4 months - current (2.5yrs) They sleep in their own cots in the same room. I have never tried to separate them and have no plans too.

I never had my girls in the same cot. I had them in their own cradel. They sared a room until we moved to our new house in Jan. They turned 8 on Valentines Day.
Now that they have different rooms they are able to be a little bit more independent.

Hello,

Alexander and Joshua slept in a bassinette together until they were about 6 weeks old.

Then they moved into a cot together and slept in their cuddle cots. They stayed in the cuddle cots until they grew out of them, so then they slept side by side in the same cot.

When they were around 5 months old they moved into seperate cots side by side. They cannot sleep unless hthey can see their brother next to them. They still sleep next to each other but are only just over a year old.

They sleep in their cots during the day as well, if I had them anywhere else they would just get up and walk off.

HI all,

My gf has 18 month twin girls who still sleep in the same cot. She is hoping to put them in a double bed together in the next couple of months as she has a new baby. They do wake each other up and i think they would sleep better seperate but in same room (but it isnt any of mt business as they are her kids)

We're currently sleeping our twins in a bassinet insert in a porta cot next to our bed - they're three weeks old. They're still small enough to lay across in the middle instead of length ways. During the day they sleep in separate rockers in the lounge unless I'm in the bedroom, then they either sleep in their bed or on mine. Though often one or both of them ends up in our bed at 4am when they don't want to settle. So far they don't wake each other up much at all.

Even while they were in special care they were put together for cuddles in the same crib - after they were taken out of the humidicribs.

3-lil-angels
My two shared a cot for a couple of weeks - it was so cute, nicole was always the one settling kyle. Then they went into their own cots, same room. When they were about 2 they both went into their own beds, still the same room. Now, at nearly 4, they are still together in their own room. I'm waiting for the day when nicole tells me she wants her own room. But for now they are quite happy being together. When they go to bed at night, they chat away to eachother until one or both fall asleep. original.gif

I love looking at sleeping bubs and kids, almost makes me wish I could have another. original.gif

hi all - i have twin boys and they have always slept separately. in the beginning they slept in separate bassinettes. they also sleep in separate cots. during the day i tend to separate them and put them in different rooms. i did this from about 6 months because william was not a very good sleeper and i was worried he would wake alexander. since then he has become a great day sleeper (well most days anyway)lol. because they have been separated during the day i will probably end up keeping it that way. or do you think i should change it and put them together during the day. let me know. am always open to options. thanks

Hi my girls slept together forthe first 6wks in the same cot then Krystal kept hitting storm in the face and put them in separte cot inthe same room and they still are and we are 12mths and 1wk old today.
Krystal was a poor sleeper in the beginning but with lots of work she now sleeps 12hours a night 2-3hrs during the day and Storm is a great sleeper from the beginning and sleeps 12 hours a night and 2-3hrs a day too. Yes you can get your multiples to sleep in a good pattern with lots of work and understanding LOL
