We have a 5 week old baby and are planning quite a bit of travelling within the next few months. We don't know what to buy for him to sleep in! We don't want to take a bulky portacot on the flights (and since we are travelling on budget airlines don't want to pay extra when we already need to take the pram and carseat). But not sure what our other options are. We would prefer to take something rather than trying to borrow/hire in several different places. I looked into those 'close and secure sleepers' but at 58cm I think he's already just about too long for them. There's a few soft bassinettes around but I don't understand how they fit with SIDS recommendations, wouldn't there be a fairly high suffocation risk, especially if there isn't mesh sides? I'm a bit confused, not sure what everyone else uses for travelling with an infant!

We have one of these

It is really light (about 3kgs from memory) and quick and easy to put up and down.

Thankyou! I was trying to research the Kidco Pea Pod and couldnt find any options of buying it in Australia, didn't realise it was called KinderKot here! Looks pretty good, hoping to find one cheap...

Here is a cheaper lighter version which may suit if you are flying:

I havent used it myself as I just took our moses baskets with us (driving).

All the best.

When our baby was very little, he slept in the carrycot of his pram.

Since the outgrew that, we have used the Phil and Teds Traveller:

It's a bugger to put up the first time or two, but not as big a deal as the reviews make out. It's super light and very compact. It is hard to fit back in the carry bag, but we stuff it in the box it came in and that still fits in our suitcase so no need to check in separately. Weighs 2.7kg!!!!

We have definitely been glad we had it on one camping trip where there were mosquitoes and big bugs inside our cabin, but not in DS's zip-up cot. It is great for squishy hotel rooms and caravans as not as big as usual portacot.

You're supposed to zip the mattress into the bottom of the cot, but we just lay it inside. It's so thin I can't see how it would be a hazard and we use normal cot sheets on it.

We were once charged $70 for portacot hire for one week, and wish we had bought this a week earlier!
