*sassy*
Hi ladies,

Sorry if this has been done - did do a search but came up with nil!

Anyway, my question is about hyperovulation (no - this is not one of those 'how can I have twins' threads!)

If you have the ability to hyperovulate is there any way (short of scans) to know if it is happening any particular month? Do you have a different 'feeling' ie pains etc, different discharge etc? We do have the gene on my mother's side via my grandmother, her 14 siblings and their kids (around 7 instances of fraternal and another 4 of identical!) but have no idea if I've inherited it. I had a very long MC in Sept 08 (rise and fall in HCG for around a month) but as it was early no scans were ordered. My gyno theorised it may have been twins.

So are there any signs that may indicate hyperovulation? I am not TTC at the moment, just curious.

TIA

Sassy.

my twins are from fertility treatment so no idea if its different, but i had no symptoms at all (i also had blood tests to monitor for ovulation and all was normal there). id say the only sure way of knowing would be from scans.

I would agree with PP that scans are the only way to know for sure.

I had a completely normal cycle when I conceived the boys. No extra CM, no greater ovulation pain than usual. LH surge was no stronger than usual (line was no darker on OPK).

Hiya - I'm 31 weeks pregnant with spontaneous b/g twins (so the result of hyperovulation, although it does rather sound like showing off when put that way) and while I'd agree that it wasn't anything particularly unusual compared to the cycle when I conceived my 2yo, I do think in retrospect that I had more than usual CM and also an unusually clear distinction between that and the following mucus (for me). Of course, that kind of thing is often individual to each cycle let alone each individual and I don't know that it would be a reliable indicator in advance. I kind of wish I had been tracking temps like I did with my daughter - would have been interesting to see if anything else was different.

The really different thing was quite a noticeable positive on a pregnancy test very early. I think it was at 11dpo.

There are NO twins in my family AT ALL so it was a huge surprise. You have quite an impressive family history!

Well, I did IVF... BUT, I went to my first scan feeling like I hadn't responded at all and 15 mature eggs were there ready to be collected. I felt nothing different to my years of releasing one or two eggs on my own, or on Clomid, etc.

I too really think you would only know from a scan (or twin pregnancy!)

The cycle I conceived my frat twins, I noticed I had 2 peaks of egg white CM, about 3 days apart though I didn't think much of it at the time. Only after I knew I was having twins did I think that possibly was 2 ovulations.

Since then sometimes I notice pain on both sides, so perhaps I hyperovulate. THough I can't predict when this is going to happen.

Don't really know. Although some months I notice a bit of pain around ovulation time. That could be when i'm hyperovulating.

DH thinks it's hilarious he gets to call me a HO! biggrin.gif

I have naturally conceived fraternal twins, there was/is nothing to have ever suggested me I did/may ever at any time ovulate more than one egg....

For those who chart you may be able to observe hyperovulation by seeing a larger dip in preovulation temperature than normal. Some women will see a slight dip in temperature right before the temperature rise and this is caused by oestrogen. When hyperovulation takes place, a bigger surge of oestrogen happens and this drops the temperature more than usual. I saw this on my chart the month I conceived but had no idea why it had happened until a few months later when I was speaking to a natural fertility expert who looked at my chart and confirmed that the large dip I had (0.3 degrees more than normal) was a sign of hyperovulation.

Im like Domestically Challegned, even with stimulation during IVF, and having 12 mature follicles, I didnt really notice any difference, and I was charting my temps just out of interest, I really didnt see anything to indicate I was ovulating more than usual...
