Parable of Chinese Communism?

I'm 3/4 through, fun as usual, bit forced this time, but going a bit deeper too perhaps?

Pretz
I agree that it seems to touch on communism. Whilst reading it I thought of Orson wells and Aldous Huxley...

It was a good book, but it was no where as zany, or as exciting as his Friday next series. I can't wait for the upcoming Friday next book to be released; it's about a serial killer in the book world .

Jasper Fforde has such a wonderful imagination. Perhaps I'll enjoy Shades of Grey better the 2nd time around. I will buy the sequel because I would like to know what happens.
Wolfsbane
I haven't read Shades of Grey yet - I'm a newcomer to Jasper Fforde. Loved the Nursery Crimes books and also the Thursday Next series. Looks like it's time to go to The Book Depository again.
Ianthe
I just got this out from the library tonight.

I'm hanging out for the next instalment - no, not as "fun" as Thursday Next or Nursery Crimes, but less dependent on the joke of using other peoples' characters.

Cali - I hadn't thought as deeply about it as you have, but you may be right. As for the heliostats, a major apartment development here in Sydney will have one for its central park, so maybe we're heading down the route already? original.gif

JJ
Another one here who's hanging out for the sequel. original.gif It was the first JF book I'd ever read so I can't comment on his usual style.

I found it very fascinating. It strongly reminded me of 1984 in parts.

(Oh, and I was full of childish glee, waiting to read about a swan attack. laughing2.gif Ended up feeling a bit let down in that department!)
Cali~
I love the idea of those organic moving roads - definitely a solution to carbon based fuels! (except when you linger and they eat you).

I too was waiting for a swan attack.
Finished it last night anyway and felt sickened when Jane called him Pumpkin. And why did he reject her? I know they were no longer complementary colours but Ed seemed to have got a bit uppity with his new status.

If you haven't read JF's previous I can't recommend The Eyre Affair too highly.
