Hi, Just wanted some opinions on Coleridge with NN Cole. Cheers.

Mmmm - I don't mind Cole - rings a bell from a movie - can't think which. Actually - think it was Mr Holland's Opus.
Not sure I like Coleridge too much - reminds me of English lessons at high school.

Not a fan of Coleridge...I'd worry he'd prefer to be called 'Ridge' LOL
My brother is Cole tho...he often get's called Colin or asked if his name is really Colin...can't win with this name business LOL
Just go with the name you love & don't let anyone make you feel bad about your decision

To me it's like naming someone Shakespeare. Not good.

Yeah, I tend to think it's leaning a bit too far towards the 'trying too hard' sort of name.

If you wanted to name your child after Coleridge the poet I'd make it a middle name. It seems a bit too heavy and serious for a first name. For first name I too would prefer Cole which is quite cool.

That's the name of the street right near my house, I live in an area where all the streets are named after writers. I don't think it is good name for a child.

It seems like it would be stretching the limits of surnames as first names.

I agree with Gudrun - as a first name it's a bit too much, but I wouldn't mind it as a middle name. I'm not really a fan of Cole as a nickname either.

Can't help but feel it smacks somewhat of literary pretention, even though that may not be the case.
Don't mind Cole though.

It sounds pretentious to me. Like the parents are trying to impress the world with how intellectual they are.

I think it would make a fine middle name (and my Mum's middle name was Cole) - if you want to call him Cole then do, simply bypass the first name altogether. I know MANY adults who do this (although most of them are called John?)
