I have been reading every single Jodi Picoult book that my library has and I have no inspiration. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good historical romance or historical book in general? Or just any book you think is the bees knees!

Just last week I read A Day In The Life of Ivan Denisovich and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and I highly recommend each of them!

I used to love Julia Garwoods historical romances! Especially the once set in Scotland.

I recently finished a wonderful book by Anne Rice called The Feast of All Saints. Its based in New Orleans in the times of slavery and focuses on the mixed race families struggling to find their place in society. Was beautifully written and really thought provoking.

If its historical romance you want then you must read the Into The Wilderness Series by Sara Donati. I have every book - have re-read them all a couple of times too.

Kate Morton's
The Forgotten Garden
and
The Shifting Fog
I swear The Forgotten Garden is one of the most brilliantly written books I have ever come across.
There is also Paullina Simmons Bronze Horseman

I was also going to suggest the Bronze Horseman, best part of that is: there are 3 books and they are not a light read so they'll keep you going for a while!
I like Paulinna Simons other books too.
The Millenium Trilogy is a must-read (girl with dragon tattoo etc) and will keep you hooked until the end of the third book. Well, it did to me anyway.

autumntree we must have very similar tastes - I absolutely loved all of those books! Another big thumbs up for Kate Morton and Paullina Simons.
Posie Graeme Evans did a historical romance trilogy. Also Philippa Gregory.
Hmm will have to go and check out my bookshelves and come back with some more recommendations for you!

I remember reading that one years ago, it was a good read.

I went down to the library today and picked up a copy of The Forgotten Garden and the Feast of All Saints.
I googled the Feast of All Saints and they did a tv mini series thingy from the book and I remember watching the show years ago when it aired on tv. It was good to watch and I look fwd to reading the book.

Have you read her others? She has a new one out now. I'm waiting on a big book depository order where i found another she'd written that I haven't read yet. Can't wait!
The Virgin Blue was a lovely book too.
