Hi Ladies,

My boys are two weeks old tomorrow and we are bottle formula feeding (breastfeeding did not work out) and DH and I are feeding one each at a feed (approx. every 3 hours currently). This is working out time wise at the moment (and we're kind of getting some sleep! he he) but there will obviously come a time when only one of us will have to do it. So my question is, do you have any tips on how to feed twins by yourself?

Also, one of our boys suffers from terrible wind pains, do you have any tried and true recommendations?

Thanks!

Early on we feed my girls EBM, and if we were doing it on our own we'd usually prop them both up on a pillow or something so that we could hold the bottles in their mouths. It usually worked quite well.

i used to stick them in their rockers, sit between them and feed them like that.

with wind pain there is infacol drops and stomach calm but i would try using different bottles first to see if that makes a difference, we brought dr browns anti colic bottles and omg they were a dream come true for ds2 who was suffering from terrible colic.

I believe K may already have mentioned to you that I made some wedge shaped bean bags for D & S (I missed a call from her yesterday and am going by the message on my voicemail). They worked really well as the girls were at the right angle and buried nice and soundly in their bean bag with their feet towards the lounge. I sat between them, wrapped a hand towel under each bottle to help hold it in place (so that I could burp one without disturbing the other or wipe up a dribble or whatever else needed me to have my hands free), and sat between them.

Then as they got bigger and longer and started pushing off the end of the lounge (and thus it wasn't so safe for them to be in that position) I switched to using just 1 of the bags with the bubba's legs facing towards me and the other bub would be sitting on my lap facing outwards (so her back ran up my tummy). Once they could hold their own bottles I put both beanbags on the floor with the girls on them and off they'd go. They still go and get them and sit on them often now even though they are drinking milk from a cup.

Here's a piccie of one of the bags:

And here's them set up ready/screaming for a feed:

I've still got the pattern somewhere. Happy to dig it out and make a copy to send down to you if you would like it.

I am another one who sat between them & fed them both at the same time. They were in their rockers.
I also used Infants Friend for my kids when they had wind, unsettled, teething...LOL..Maybe I should have downed the whole bottle myself!

I actually use a twin breastfeeding pillow (milkbar twin)to bottle feed my twins. It is a bit fiddly to get them both up onto it, I generally have to pick the second one up by his onsie one-handed, but it means that they are nice and close. My arms get too tired having them further away and having them up close means that I can use my chin to grab a bottle if I need a hand to wipe dribbles or reposition a baby. To burp them they are high enough that I can sit them up on the pillow to lean on my shoulder.

I propped mine in a V pillow together when tiny - used one hand to feed. Got good at picking up and burping one handed lol. Just checking that you also have the Karicare info original.gif Congrats again! So happy for you!

I put them in two Maclaren rockers and sat between them to bottle feed. It had an adjustable angle which was quite handy. See here:

I used the "Double Cuddle" Twin Feeding Pillow by Baby Bumbles. Designed for bottle feeding newborn twins. It was essential in the first 6 months. My husband was able to handle the night feeds on his own while I got some sleep and I was able to make it through the days on my own. Without doubt the best thing I ever bought for the twins!
Good luck!!
