Has anyone read Changeless by Gail Carrige? Any good?

Erm I would actually say that Let the right one is more of a Vampire novel than a lot of the other so-called Vampire novels around at the moment. Go back to the roots: Dracula is not a very nice person. He is a monster hell bent on getting to and using Mina Harker. That namby pampy Edward Cullen dude is not a vampire. Not by a very very long shot

Cathode, I meant to mention in my post that yes, The Passage, is the start of a trilogy *slaps self on the head*

I absolutely, 100% agree. As I said earlier, I LOVE Let The Right One In. However, you have to agree that some of its themes won't have universal appeal to everyone. I know Panda from real life and I know that she is an intelligent, capable, well-read and sophisticated individual who loves vampire romances. I was simply reinforcing to a friend that this book is not your typical vampire romance. At all.

Panda, I meant no disrespect! I was just warning you before you found yourself reading something COMPLETELY unexpected.

I would have to agree with this! I think it gets confusing because there are quite a few threads that he has going on there at one point. Also, not all of those threads get resolved at the end of the book. Frustrating!

But that's the best part! It gives you an excuse to write fanfiction!

Mine is Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist.

I'm reading this atm. Not sure, so far.
I'm looking forward to more from Justin Cronin.

I have only read the first book in the series, Soulless which was quite good - even if her representation of what it means to be soulless is confusing and somewhat nonsensical. I didn't expect it to be a fairly typical romance though. That part was surprising. I thought it would be a Steampunk Urban Fantasy.

Kemiz - I know honey! I was joking. You really do know me too well! tongue.gif

Ah, thanks. I might give it a miss then. Whilst I will sometimes read them, I do prefer non romance books.

Okay, has anyone read
The Secret History of Elizabeth Tudor, Vampire Slayer by Lucy Weston ?
or the Chicagoland Vampire series by Chloe Neill?

Any good?
(not that I am looking for an excuse to buy more books or anything ph34r.gif )

I have read the Chicagoland Vampires series.

First time through I loved reading them. I'm reading them through a second time now and finding them a little boring. They're more Urban Fantasy than Paranormal romance though they eventually do have a little romancing.

The main male lead will, at some points, make you want to pull your hair out.

Kemiz - What about me? Would I like Chicagoland? I have them on my ereader.

In short - probably. Ethan is... *drool*

Have recently finished the Darren Shan Saga and also the House of Night series. I quite enjoyed both, though they are 'young adult' books.

I still have entire series of The Dresden Files to get through.

The first 4 Anne Rice. After The Tale of the Body Thief they go downhill. The first 3 are particularly good and very well written. So that's Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, and Queen of the Damned.

THIS. The Vampire Lestat is the best IMO! I also like the Taltos series - not vampire but still supernatural.

May not be your cup of tea OP as I HATED the Twilight books (read all of them to make sure). Maybe I'm too old for them or maybe I'm a vampire snob but I was really annoyed that such good ideas (bringing them out into the sun, giving them each different skills, a teenage context) was totally squandered IMO. Degrassi Junior High - Vampire Style!

I didn't like Twilight either because I hated the main characters. I like strong female characters and Bella came across more like a whiny, dependent emo kid and Edward was so controlling and Jacob was such a wet blanket. I like House of Night because whilst they are still teenagers they aren't so dramatic and needy, plus it has a bit of a darker element.

So true! I read somewhere that there was a whole group of Anti-Twilighters who were outlining the subtle (and not so subtle) hallmarks of physical and emotional abuse and co-dependence between the main 3 characters.... I just found them annoyingly predictable.

The Passage!!!

But don't expect any Edwards (giggles)

My manager passed this to me. I'm going to start it after finishing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

I've tried reading both the Vampire Academy and Vampire Diaries and got pretty bored. There were too many characters in both books that annoyed me too much.

I do love the VD Tv series though.

Does anyone know where I can get this from in an ebook version? I have a Kobo wifi. Lots of the ebook stores only have the 7th book. My friend has talked about this series also, so I want to give it a go.

You did yourself a favour not reading the Vampire Diaries books yyawn.gif

The Passage is really good. Don't know how you will go though as there are lots of characters.

Thanks original.gif I bought the first book this morning. $7 seemed reasonable.
