Lee Childs books are good, easy to read, but draw you in! They're action/adventure/drama type, and usually have a bit of romance thrown in just for fun! wink.gif

Here are some I have enjoyed, no real order of preference

Are you there vodka it's me Chelsa
Chelsea Handler - US comedian

I love the short stories by Augusten Burroughs, LOL every time. He is a gay author. His auto biographies are also good but he had a very dark childhood so very different.

The Girl who played with Fire, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who kicked the Hornets Nest - great series by Stieg Larsson

The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society - Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows
Nice romance kind of book

White Tiger - Aravind Adiga
A tale by an Indian servant

Ice Station - Mathew Riely - US marine action, white knuckle stuff can't believe it is not a movie yet

The Help - Kathryn Stockett, great book set in US south re the black home help

Three Cups of Tea, Stones into Schools -Greg Mortenson. Making schools for girls in Pakistan

Pride & Prejudice - Jane Austen, such a classic you can re read it anytime
Lady Susan - Jane Austen, I love this one she is such a b***ch.

Hi

I just finished 'Pillars of the Earth' by Ken Follet, seriously one of the best books I have ever read.
It seems I sort of put my life on hold to read it, late nights & reading in the bath etc.
It is very long but everything you want, love, drama & spans many years, it starts off in the year 1123 or something similiar.
It was voted in the top 100 of all time best books to read & I will now recommend it to anyone in need of a good read.

Enjoy

Pauline McLynn (Mrs Doyle for those who watch Father Ted) has written a number of good books that fall squarely into that category, and are nice feel-good novels with a bit of an edge.

I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith is another good one, there was a film years ago, but the book is better, a sort of coming-of-age set in an eccentric family in England in the 30s and a few months ago I finished The House at Riverton, by Kate Morton, which is a bit like Atonement, but I didn't think it was quite as good. Perfectly acceptable for a holiday read though!

Definitely second The Millennium Trilogy: The Girl who played with Fire, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who kicked the Hornets Nest - by Stieg Larsson

If it's chick lit you're after you can't go wrong with Marian Keyes books.

And another that I've only just remembered -

Come In Spinner - Dymhna Cusack and Florence James It's about a week in the lives of a group of women working in a beauty salon in a posh hotel in Sydney in 1944. It's a great read that you won't want to put down and nice and thick in the bargain.
