Hello lovely ladies...
I am currently 33.2 days pregnant with twins and had a U/S yesterday and although they have both grown since the last scan they have dropped down in percentile. At 30 weeks Twin A was 1.7 grams and Twin B was 1.4 grams and yesterday Twin A was 1.9 grams and Twin B was 1.7 grams. I am not exactly sure of the percentiles but I know they said that they had slowed down and dropped. I guess the good thing is that they have grown and the cord flow and brain flow was good. Are these weights okay? I know they are not accurate (and that the percentiles are based on single pregnancies) but it has still got me thinking or should I say worried. I am not seeing my OB until Friday 30 July but plan to give her a call this arvo to see what she thinks. Would be interested in knowing what you think and what your twins weighed when they were born.

Hi jobstar
i cant remember what mine weighed at 33 weeks but all i can say is that at least they HAVE put on weight in the last 3 weeks right...are they i/d sharing a placenta? - remember these weights are "guestimates" too so they could be out a bit??
Mine were born at 37+2 weeks and weighed 3.2 and 3.1 kilos - definately on the larger side however my DS1 was 4.2 kilos (my hubby is huge!)...hope your OB gives you some reassrance - i think the weights sound fine - all the best xx

Hi Jobstar,
I had our scan yesterday as well (32.5 weeks) and my twins are unusually big for twins (and I don't have GD) twin A was 2.4kg and Twin B was 2.5. These two have been porkers the whole way through though and DD was a chunky monkey as well (4kg when born) so they said I obviously just bake 'em big.
Those weights still seem within the acceptable range for twins, and it is completely normal for theirgrowth to slow down and for them to drop a few percentiles. They checked all the flows and there was still growth so I don't think you need to worry, if they had any doubt over their wellbeing, they'd admit you.

At 34 weeks, mine (fraternal) were just over 6lbs (boy) and 5lbs 4oz (girl). At birth (37+6), Henry was 8lbs 15oz (just over 4kg) and Georgiana was 5lbs 9oz (~2.5kg).

I had bleeding throughout my pregnancy, so my twins (fraternal) were well monitored.
Both were measuring 50th percentile up until 25wks, when T#1's growth started to slow. At 28wks T#1's growth had dropped below 10th percentile & supposedly there was a 600g difference between the 2 (T#1 scan around 900g T#1 around 1.5kg).
They were born (vaginally after spontaneous labour) at 30wks T#1 1.25kg (2lbs 12oz) & T#2 1.50kg (3lbs 6oz). They did spend time in NICU/SCN, but only for their prematurity.
Now at 15mths, T#1 is still below 10th percentile for height & weight for AA & CA, while T#2 is between 10th & 25th.

My frats were born at 35wks weighing 1965g and 2060g. Small for gestational age babies both below 0% for height and weight. They only spent time in SCN to learn to suck. They are still small but it has never been an issue. At 12 months they are 8kgs.
My cervix was found to be less than 2cm and dilated with buldging membranes at 25 weeks so from then on I was well monitored with scans. I remember googling at the time and the growth rate in the last trimester for twins is slower than for singletons.

Born 38 weeks, 2.7 kg and 2.9 kg
At 36 weeks my OB admitted me to hospital for the rest of my pregnancy as Twin A didnt seem to be putting on much weight, and there seemed to be a big difference between their sizes. Turned out DS was wedged down so far they were just finding it hard to measure him and their guestimates were a fair bit off.
Hope your OB can put your mind at ease, and you can bake them for a few weeks more! Good luck.

I was told at 37 weeks my fraternal twins were a 'good size for Twins, around 4lb - 5lb' and I was huge

!!
They arrived 5 days later with Twin 1weighing 6lb 8oz and Twin 2 7lb 10oz...so my advice to you would be to take their estimates for exactly what they are...estimates!!
FWIW my twins are now 11 years old and still maintain the exact height and weight differences they had a birth!
take care and good luck with your little miracles

3.65kg and 3.2kg at 38+0 (frat boys). Can't remember what they were based on u/s guestimates earlier on (I think perhaps 1.9 and 1.6kg at 29w when I was hospitalised?).

Thanks everyone for your replies. I spoke to my OB last night and she assured me that everything was okay as they had shown some growth and the cord and brain flow was good. I see her next Friday and then will have another scan the following week - 35 weeks to see where they are at again.

Can I do a projection? A prediction?

Mine were 2.5kg and 2.4kg measured by ultrasound at 34 weeks.
I'm guessing that Twin one is 3.7kg and Twin two is 3.4kg. I'd be happy to be wrong and for them to be smaller but I hoping they aren't bigger! It's been impossible to measure them properly since 36 weeks because Twin one's head is all in my pelvis and there's just no room to get accurate measurements on ultrasound. All I know is that my increasing stretchmarks tell me they are still growing!!
Jobstar as long as that cord is flowing well it's a good indication of placental function. Keep us updated on how you're going.
My fraternal boys were delivered at 36w2d due to T2 being SGA- 10 days earlier he was predicted by scan to weigh over 2kg but came out at 1.8kg. T1 was 3.0kg.

t1 - 2218g +/- 332g (4lb 14 and 1/4oz +/- 332g)
t2 - 2168g +/- 325g (4lb 12 and 1/2oz +/- 325g)
at birth (37+3)

at 38wks, DD was 2.3 and DS3 was 2.6kgs so they were around the 3rd/10th percentile but in utero had been on 50th... my other two boys were both 4.2kg

Hello lovelies... Just a quick update!
I had another growth scan today and in 2 weeks both bubbas have grown about 300 grams. Twin A is now 2.2 kilos and Twin B is 2.0 kilos. I know they are only estimates but I am feeling a lot better hearing these weights today. I am just over 35 weeks so it could be any day now - although my OB still thinks I have a good few weeks in me and has booked me in for a c-section in 4 weeks. I would love to make it that far but think I have 2 more in me.

Well I can say that I was wrong and they were smaller (thank goodness!).
Born at nearly 41 weeks my twins were 3.5kg and 2.8kg. I look at them laying together and can't believe they used to be in my belly! So much baby!

Born at 38 weeks, fraternal twins. Throughout the pregnancy everyone kept telling me I didn't look like I was having twins at all but both were exactly 2.94 kgs. They were also exact same length and have the same head size. The hospital staff kept commenting how uncommon that was - even for identicals!

Well the measurements from the scans were pretty much spot on. I am pleased to announce that my 2 little miracles entered the world on 6/8/10 at 35.4 weeks. They have been home for a week now and are doing extremely well.
Alannah Grace - 2.160 kilos and 45cms and 2 weeks later - 2.360 kilos
Samantha Rose - 2.00 kilos and 47cms and 2 weeks later - 2.180 kilos
