Hi,

My DH and I have been talking about TTC next year (Aug or Sep). I have idential twin girls who will be turning 5 at the end of next year. Just wondering if any other multiple mums have TTC again with such a big age gap - pros and cons? And also, the high risk of having my multiples again. Any suggestions or advice? How did you manage etc

Not having anymore myself but thought I would add that you have no highrisk at all of having multiples again given that you have Identical twins not fraternal.

Fraternals come from hyperovulation ( more than one egg release) whereas Identicals are from one egg and the odds of having them is the same as any pregnancy with no heridtary impact

ID can happen again but from memory it's 1 in 64000 chance original.gif

our girls are ID - we were going to discuss TTC when they were 18mths - i say were cause well we fell when they were 14mths laughing2.gif

then we fell again when our singleton was 15mths laughing2.gif

if i had my time again i probably wouldn't have such a small gap BUT that isn't because of twins being juggled, i had HG with my singleton pg (that i didn't have with my twins - go figure laughing2.gif) and it was taxing caring for other children (who didn't start walking til 18mths) whilst vomiting constantly.

good luck original.gif

Atua- sorry you are right. I was trying to explain that the odds are not increased or anty different than before her first set of twins

i knew what you meant hun original.gif

oh thought op - have you got confirmation they are id? that was what influenced our decision.

I should have stated that I am a f.twin and I conceived i.triplets but lost one at around 9 weeks. I really don't think that I will have multiples again but you just never know. I am porbably more concerned about the age gap.

we were discussing this (well i was trying to talk dh around), and we both thought that the best time to ttc would be when the twins were 3/4yrs old and in kindy.

i think its such a personal decision though, and the personalities of your twins would have an affect on this decision aswell.
atua
you being a frat twin changes the game completely.

i'd be going into it expecting that you *might* conceive twins or HOM's - that way if it happens you'll be ready original.gif

i'm sorry for the loss of one of your babies.

I think a big age gap would be bliss.Mine were all very close but I still had to do c& k drop off with twins and toddler in tow.The baby/s routines will be disturbed with school runs for the twins but you will manage, we all do.The twins will even be great helpers if you allow them:) Good luck with ttc

I agree with mad madam mim - if we go back for more (bit scared of two sets of twins though) we would be aiming for a 3-4 yr age gap.

Hi Jade,

We're the same age. I think 5 year age gap is great and your daughters would probably love a new baby to help out with.

My son was almost 4 when the twins were born which made it a bit easier as he's quite independent.

I think there's always a chance of multiples..especially the more pregnancies you have. My sil has had 4 pregnancies, 2 of which resulted in m/c and the 1st and fourth pg were successful and she had twins on the 4th pg. Her Ob has told her if she was ttc again, there's a chance that it could be twins because just based on the rule of probability.

However, my dad has 13 bros and sisters..14 kids all up and none were twins. My mum's side has 10 kids all up and my mum is an identical twin, she's the youngest..it took 9 pgs to conceive twins.

Hi, just wanted to add that yes, as others have said, you have the same chance as having twins as anyone else, 1 in 70, or for another set of identicals, 1 in 200. That is the same the majority of the population have each pregnancy.
If you hadn't already had id twins, your chance of going on to have 2 sets of identical is 1 in 200 squared, but you already have one set. Sorry if my waffling makes no sense.
If you want to try again, I think a big age gap is a bonus. Mine are all 2 years apart and it is too close.Good luck!
