I have read a few recommendations about this book on here lately and borrowed it from the library.
I just wanted to thank those ladies very much!! I absolutely loved this book!
I have been laughing and crying and just couldn't put it down.
I though initially that it was going to be a bit of fluff, but it soon turned into a warm, funny, personable story that was very endearing.
It's always nice to come across a book that suits you at a given moment IYKWIM?
Thanks again,
B
PS for those that want to look it up : The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer

Thrilled you loved it!
After reading the recommendations here on EB, it is on the top of my "to read" pile ... just need to finish the book I am reading. Will come in and let you know what I thought.

I didn't really have much of a build up in my head - i'd read a couple of recommendations last week and thought a 'light' book might be nice as I'd been reading up on birthing books and needed a break!!
After a bit of getting used to the letter writing format and sorting out who the people were, I really started to get into the story. It's not the great historical romance novel of the century or anything

, but still a good read.
Any more recommendations girls?? I'm into anything really!!

I absolutely loved it. I'd heard nothing about it prior though, whether that helped or not I'm not sure. Definitely one of my new favourites!

I loved it too, but I think it definitely helped that I hadn't heard much about it first - I often find that if people are going on and on about reading a certain book and then when you finally read it, it can turn out to be a big let-down.

I liked it, it was an easy read but I did find it a bit slow/boring in parts. I read it 'cause my MIL and SIL really loved it. I'm glad I read it though, very few people know that Guernsey and Jersey were really affected by the war. People were starving, it was awful. And the scene with the child who had to leave his parents (her parents??) was very sad.
I'm pretty sure the author died suddenly before it was published ...

I loved it too, but had no build up whatsoever, in fact I'd never heard of it before I read it. A friend's mother gave it to me because she knew I'd love it (we are a generation apart but have similar literary tastes!). My word for it is "delightful".

My word for it is "delightful".
That is the perfect word to describe this book! I finished reading it today and LOVED it!
It was such an enjoyable read and made me feel so happy while I was reading it. I have been putting off reading this book for sometime due to the fact that it is all written in letter form. I am
so glad I got past that and read it anyway, it was wonderful!
I highly recommend it for a
delightful feel good read!

I wrote a review of this book for our local library, and yes, I used the word 'delightful'.
