Hi everyone. I am 9 weeks and 3 days pregnant with likely "Momo" twins. I was just wanting advice from others who have had twins, as to when they felt they needed to finish work. I am a nurse and on my feet all day, luckily I work with babies and small children, so it is not the heavy work that some nurses have to do. Our obstretrician yesterday told me it is important with Momo's to stay active and not be inactive unless otherwise instructed due to complications. Any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated, particularly if there are any shift workers out there. Thansk

Are you seeing high risk Obstetrician?. Mo/mo twins are very rare and only occur in 1% of ID twin pregnancies. You will need extremely close monitoring. It is my understanding that most momo pregnancies require early hospitalisation. They are also c/sec births to avoid cord prolapse- often at 30-32 weeks.
I hope that because it is early in your pregnancy it is just hard to see the membrane between them and that you actually have Mo Di twins?
As for when you finish work I think that your specialist OB would be the person to tell you this. Being such a rare pregnancy it would be hard for nayone here to give comparable advice for when they stopped work

^^^ ditto DG
we held our breath at 12w to check their was a membrane, that's all i wanted to see with knowing a girl i worked with had mo/mo (she stopped work the moment she found not just twins but mo/mo and that was at 12w).
there are a few girls here who have mo/mo babies so hopefully they will see this post - personally i would be ceasing work (if it has been confirmed mo/mo) just because of the increased risks assoc with them (TTTTS being one of them) - i stopped at 27+3 with an office job with my mc/da ID twins - it wasn't the job that did it (it was only an office job) it was the 90+mins commute each way standing most of the way that killed me.

I am seeing a high risk obstretician, and will probably transfer to another obstetrician who has extra qualifications in Maternal/Fetal Medicine, if Momos are confirmed at 12 weeks. We are obviously hoping that we see a membrane at 12 weeks, but if not I am just trying to gather as much info as possible. I would rather be over prepared than underprepared. I think that is the Paediatric nurse coming out in me. I will definitely be listening to the advice of our health care professionals, but would appreciate hearing other peoples stories in similar situations.

Agree with the above posters. MoMo are very rare and it is still early days, a membrane may still be too hard to see, especially if it wasn't an internal ultrasound with a high tech machine. I would wait for a scan at 12/13 weeks to confirm whether or not they are MoMo or MoDi.
I stopped working at 27 weeks with my DiDi twins as my job involved a lot of standing and a lot of stress.
If they are MoMo, I would be finding an OB with experience in this type of pregnancy as it is very very high risk ad be guided by their recomendations.

Hi! I agree with other posts about the membrane being hard to see. We have mo/di twins and they ALWAYS had trouble finding the membrane [even the best of the best with the ultrasound gadget struggled!]...... so perhaps it is there but just hiding.
If MoMo I think you will be having some serious discussions about when to finish up....I am a small little person who worked in retail standing all day. I made it to about 26 weeks... then there were concerns about boys growth etc and I was told to rest up a bit. So i stopped work.
It all goes downhill quickly.... I was aiming to make 30 weeks and after 30 weeks i was definately ready to not have to be nice to people all the time at work!!!
You are the only person who will know whats best for your body-- but your obst might be able to give you a ballpark figure so you can plan ahead for when to finish up. I guess doing shift work you may be able to do a couple of shifts a week to keep you active but not exhaust you too much.
Talk to your obst after your next scan and im sure you will come up with a plan when to finish up. There is lots to think about.... good luck with your pregnancy. Keep us all posted on the scan outcome!
I would recommend visiting the AMBA website and joining in on their forums. They have one especially for those expecting MoMo twins. There's all sorts of resources and information there along with the moral support of those making the journey now or who have walked it before you.

It was an internal ultrasound on a high tech machine. I do realise that Momos are extremely rare and high risk, and as mentioned previously will be going on the recommendations of health care specialists who are very experience in this area. I am lucky to be in the area of Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney, where they have multiple experts in this area including obstetricians, neonatologists, midwifes, maternal/fetal specialists, so will be receiving the best of care. But as well as these specialists I am wanting to speak to other mothers with similar experiences.

I worked until after 30 weeks but having Di/Di twins is a completely different level of risk.
I would see what your Ob thinks is necessary once you've got a diagnosis on the type of twins you're carrying in a few weeks time. Obviously they are at least sharing a placenta which makes everything higher risk.

My plan is to work till 30weeks if possible, but to drop down to 4 days a week at 24 weeks and see how I go.
