Hi Ladies

My twins are arrving in 3 weeks all going to plan!! biggrin.gif
I'm thinking ahead to when I'll be the one at home with 4 kids and droping DS and DD1 at daycare 2 days per week. Next year DS will be at kinder so the same will apply but I'll have 2 stops instead of 1.

Now I think about it its really all how to carry both the girls when we go from the car to a shop or playgroup etc.
I don't want to get the stroller out every time as its such a short distance from the car to the door at the centre or we are staying at the place for a time.

Mainly how do you transport your twin babies when its just you?
Do I put one twin in a sling/carrier and carry the other one in my arms - but then how can open the doors, put in the pin for the door etc?
Or do I put them in their cocoons and carry them that way?

DS and DD1 will walk and are great at listening and staying with me so its not that I have to hold their hands unless at the road/carpark ect.

Your suggestions would be great.

Thanks
Kate

Capsules are the easiest way to go - do you have capsules? I am guessing not? I suggest hiring them for the first 6 months - wont cost you too much, but will make your life SO MUCH easier!

ETA - CONGRATULATIONS! Hope all goes well with the birth! Twin girls are great fun - mine are at my feet wrestling over a book at the moment lol.

While they were little I used to carry them in capsules - I could usually leave them in the office if it was attended then collect them on my way out. If one of the carers saw me park and they could spare 5 minutes then they'd often come out and stay with the babies and car while I raced in and grabbed the kids.

When they got a bit older I'd have one in a sling, the other in a capsule.

Good luck.

I used to get the stroller out every time. PITA, but that was the hand I'd been dealt.

I don't see how capsules are easier than a stroller because carrying two capsules and trying to hold the hand of an errant toddler doesn't sound like my idea of fun. (Of course, I had one in a capsule, but it went into my double stroller, so I had the best of both worlds, really.)

I've since read the law relating to children in cars, and had I known then what I know now, I would have left them asleep in the car (weather permitting) during the 2 minutes it took me to sign DD in and out.

I used to either get one of the carers to come and watch the car for me while I got DS1, or bring DS1 to the door for me. Or I'd carry the 2 capsules in. Or I'd get the pram out. A few times, I'll admit I left the twins asleep in the car unattended while I ran in to get DS1. It all depended on the weather, whether I wanted to talk to DS1's carers or read the meal and sleep charts etc, if I was in a hurry etc.

Nothing's easy with 2 babies, this is just one example of that. wink.gif

Hi there,

Its not easy or convenient unfortunately. I also have 4, one in Prep and one in child care and of course the babies!

School has been really good as I've made a good connection with other mums. So I pull up out the front, catch up a mum and they walk in DD1 for me. Same in the afternoon, a mum will walk out DD1 to the car. A lot of mums have also helped out with drop-offs and pick-ups too! So my idea would be to make friends with some mums and get them to help you out in a similar way. DD1 loves it as she thinks she is special always going in with someone different!!

Childcare is a pain for DD2 as the access is horrible and you have to sign them in and out. Luckily for me DH drops her every morning on his way to work, and I have a carer who works 2-6 Tues-Thurs (her childcare days) and she will pick her up for me. But on some days when I have dropped off or picked up, I will call ahead and they will have her ready for me and will walk her out with the sign-on/out book. I figure I will really only need this maybe until they are 6 months are more robust and can sit on a hip??

You are eligible for in-home care, and its fabulous as you get the CCB and CCTR whilst having a carer in your home if you have 3 children until school age. I would highly recommend it, otherwise you are forever in the car. My carer is brilliant and its been the BEST investment in money. So if you can afford it - do it....

We didn't get capsules as I had trouble carrying even one capsule when I had DD2! Plus we already had enough car seats.. At school sometimes I get out and carry both of them in my arms, and there is usually someone quick to run over and grab one from me!

School holidays are bliss so there is no school run, and childcare is more flexible in terms of when they get there and have to be picked up.

People will WANT to help - let them as it makes your life easier.

PM if you want more details.

I was lucky I had an older daughter who could stay in the car and mind my newborn twins whilst I took my toddler in to daycare. When she wasn't available, quite often I would ask another parent to keep any eye on the car whilst I took my toddler in or I would carry one twin, carried the other in a car capsule and my toddler walked. On occasions the twins were left in the car unattended with the sliding door open, as in the show modern family, my biggest worry was not the car being stolen but "people are judging me"!!!

I never asked a daycare worker to come out as I myself would not like to know that a worker left the premises but of course it they were entering they were always happy to help.

Now they are older and all 3 attend I have a small double umbrella stroller or again my daughter who then catches a bus to school nearby. This morning though I was able to park right outside the door ran 1 twin in and then came out and got the other and my toddler.

Nothing is ever convenient or easy (getting them prepared is hard enough) but you always seem to find a way!

I would get the pram out everytime. I really did find it easier to spend a minute getting it out than try and juggle 2 babies, plus a 2 yr old and 4 yr old.

Hi Kate:

You might want to check out one of the most brilliant products ever (I had the singleton version for my kids & it was the best baby product I owned!)

http://hubpages.com/hub/Baby-Trend-Double-...ler-Frame-Black

You can simply pop any two standard sized baby capsules into the base (which opens & closes with one hand!), and voila! You have a double pram (and don't need to wake your babies). Baby Trend is not the only vendor of this product (if you google "universal car seat base twins" you will see others). We had the Kolcraft version.

It's sold in the U.S. and Canada, but if you use one of those shipping brokers, you can get it sent to Australia.

Good luck with the arrival of your twins!!
