Ok, so I'm coming up to 10 weeks pregnant with twins and my mind has been racing and I have a few questions.

When did you first start feeling movement? for those of you who have had singletons as well, was it much earlier?

When did you start to show? I'd love to hear from the plus size mums with this one especially original.gif

When did your partner first feel movement?

When did you have your mid way scan? is it better to have twins scanned earlier due to size or not?

I know there also a few others here with twins as numbers 4 & 5. Can I ask how you found the transition compared to adding a singleton to the family?

When did you first start feeling movement?
About 18 weeks definitely but it confirmed the little twitches I'd felt from about 16 weeks were real.

When did you start to show? I don't know what your criteria for plus size is but I didn't start this pregnancy off skinny (probably 15kg overweight). I started to show at about 11 weeks and had a tummy that was difficult to hide by the time I was 13 weeks.

When did your partner first feel movement? Um about 22 weeks I think. Mostly I was just getting one or two kicks at a time then it would stop but this one night I was getting repeated kicks in one spot so I ran upstairs and put his hand on my belly and he got another 3 - 4 kicks. It was difficult to time though!

When did you have your mid way scan? I had my morphology scan a day before twenty weeks. The specialist obstetric sonographer who I use prefers them as big as possible as it gives the best chance of picking up abnormalities. He won't routinely do this scan at 18 weeks as there is a big difference in what he can see in those two weeks. Just a professional preference I guess but we've paid a bloody fortune for this guys expert opinion so it made sense to have the scan done when he thought was best.

When did your partner first feel movement?

I started feeling "flutters" from around 8-10 weeks. In the last week they've become stronger and DH felt one of the twins kick on Friday night. I could see the difference in my body from about 8 weeks(I'm definitely plus size!), I had a real growth explosion at the start of last week (15 weeks) which friends and family have really noticed.

My midway scan is booked for 20 weeks, same as PP, they like them to be as big as possible to get an accurate assessment.

I hardly slept for weeks after finding out we were having twins. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many questions racing through my mind.

When did you first start feeling movement? 15 weeks. It was my second pregnancy. it will still depend, however, on the position of your placenta and if it's anterior then you may have to wait longer regardless of there being 2 bubbas.

When did you start to show? The unable to hide it kind of starting to show was around 16 or 17 weeks. Definitely by 18 weeks it was very obvious although I felt all puffy and bloated well and truly by the end of the first trimester.

When did your partner first feel movement? Around 21 or 22 weeks. I could see the kicks from the outside then it was just a matter of him having his hand in the right place at the right time to also feel them.

When did you have your mid way scan? is it better to have twins scanned earlier due to size or not? No, not better any earlier. Still around that 19/20 week mark. Twins follow the same growth as singletons until the third trimester when they slow up so it'll all be the same.

16 weeks was when I first felt their movement.

I first started to show at 10 weeks but my weight was only 58kg back then

My DH first felt movement was 21 weeks.

My scans were the same as for a singleton. For the first two trimesters they generally follow the same growth of a singleton pregnancy.

#3 and #4 here.

I felt flutters around the 14-15 week, definite kicks by 19. My daughter could feel them at 20 weeks. I am generously proportioned, and I was showing at 13 weeks. 20 week scan here.
I find adding any baby into a house tricky, but at least once you have a few, you know what your doing, so you don't have to spend 10 hours a day watching your bubba like you do with #1!
I recieved some nanny hours as I had another child under 5 through AMBA I think, the multiple birth coordinator at hospital helped set these up, and then we continued these for a few months as one of my twins was on oxygen, and so was classed as having a disablility. I work 15 hours a week so we still use a nanny for in home care, which is heavily subsidised through centrelink.
Those first months are hard, I would recommend trying to tee up some help. I certainly needed it. I had 4 under 4 for the first month, til my eldest turned 5.

Congratulations!

I first felt it at 15 weeks. I think that was earlier than with the singletons but I was really worried about the twins one night and could definitely feel little flutters while I lay there thinking about them. I doubt I would have noticed if I hadn't been concentrating on them.

I think it was getting pretty obvious by 12 weeks, I was definitely in maternity or stretch clothes by then.

When did your partner first feel movement?

I don't remember this one

When did you have your mid way scan? is it better to have twins scanned earlier due to size or not?

It was around 19 weeks. My twins shared a placenta so we had scans every three weeks and the sonologist had been checking development from 16 weeks but we had the official scan at 19 weeks.

I know there also a few others here with twins as numbers 4 & 5. Can I ask how you found the transition compared to adding a singleton to the family?

My twins were #3 and 4. I did have extra help for the first 8 weeks or so (and needed it to get through the totally exhausted and sleep deprived newborn days) so the older kids were taken care of and I just tried to fit at least a fun half hour or so in with them each day (they were 3 and 4.5). The babies slotted right in though, the transition wasn't too hard - but mine were healthy, settled babies and I was in a much more matenal frame of mind than I'd been for the older children. I did have to dedicate myself to some more orgnaisation to make sure that I kept on top of laundry and meals though.

Good luck

Heya Kel....

I started feeling movement around 16 weeks....

I started to show... well look through my pregnancy photo album on fb... I was always told my bump was small etc.

Shane felt movement at about 22 weeks.

I have private health insurance.. so had an Ob.. so had a little scan at every vist. I had the main ones at 12 and 19 weeks... again at 32-33weeks and again at 35 weeks to check growth...etc

Obviously you know these are #4 n #5 for us.... but my oldest is 5.5 years old.. so that makes it harder. If the other 3 were slightly older.. I think we would find it easier. ie.. they could do more for themselves.. get their breakfast.. or shower themselves.. etc... things that could make things easier... but alas.. they can't lol.
I have started to menu plan again.. so I know what I am cooking.. and prep inbetween feeds etc during the day.
I also have my mum here.. until the 2nd of August... so when the twins are nearly 9 weeks old.. my mum goes back to work. sad.gif But she helps me soooo much... she has basically taken over being mum to my older 3 kids...so I can contentrate on the twins.. but she also will feed them a bottle.. and change their nappies etc. She will sit up with me to do the last feed at night.. so 10-11pm... and will stay up with a twin if one is unsettled... so I can go to sleep.. and get abit more shut eye before getting up to feed during the night.
If it wasn't for my mum... I seriously would struggle so much.. it's not funny.

Dh leaves for work at 545am.. so he can't help during the night... and doesn't get home til nearly 6pm.. so again.. can't help much.

Anyways... they are the best thing that has happened to our family and have completed our family original.gif

It's going to be very busy... and yes.. I have my hands full.. but I can do it... I know I can.. I just have to keep thinking that... on the day's.. when I think I can't.

xxx

Ask away.. I am here.. it's a bugger your moving to Geraldton...

Thanks for the replies original.gif

Kat, I had to laugh Tounge1.gif You are building in 'South Gero' lol It's going to be a steep change in life for us moving back to Geraldton though. I've made some great friends here and it will be truly weird not having them around. Even more of a change for us is that my bestie is also moving - to QLD!!! So I won't even get to see her when we come to Perth!! We do have some good friends up there as well though which is great original.gif

I'm hoping hubby will be able to take 3-4 weeks off work and we are trying to find a house to rent nice and close to the school so I can walk the kids instead of having to get them all into the car then out, then back in then back out lol

I'm due end of January so hoping to make it to at least the 10th of Jan. That will give us a few weeks before school goes back too original.gif

Although thinking about it now, hubby is finishing at around lunch time every day at the moment so if he keeps that up maybe just a couple of weeks would be ok cos it would really only be a few hours I'd be on my own during the day.
