My 4 week old twins have been on formula for just over a week.... We seem to be going through a tin every 3ish day's. They are having 6-7 bottles a day.

Indigo will drink 100mls and Tobias (aka fatty bombar roll2.gif ) drinks 130-150mls.

We tried them on S26 gold.. as that is what they used in hospital for top ups, but when we switched from breast to bottle.. Tobias was so unsettled and constipated it wasn't funny. He would be screaming in pain trying to poo cry1.gif It was breaking my heart.

I now have them on Karicare (4th day now).... which Tobias seems good on.. not unsettled as much.. but still constipated... Indigo is a tad constipated aswell...I have gotten some drops to put in their bottles to help them.

Does it take time for their tummies to get used to formula.. ie the poo'ing side of things? Or is this formula the wrong one.. and should I try something else.

I am used to breastfeeding my other kiddies... so not used to formula...but just couldn't do it with the twins.. having 3 other children.. 5.5yrs and under.... Plus getting a bad case of mastitis on thursday last week.
I worked it out I was breastfeeding the twins for up to 14 hours a day oomg.gif which was hard on the other kids. They needed me for things.. but I couldn't... because I was breastfeeding for up to 2 hrs at a time.

Anyways..... thanks for your imput girls.

I went to reply to you Kathreen and I have realized that I can't remember ph34r.gif
I am pretty sure we were the same. A tin every 3 days in the beginning. Once they started solids I think we went down to 1 per week; 2 a fortnight (or was it 2 a week 4 a fortnight???). But please dont quote me on that!! We had heaps of problems finding one and ended up going with NAN GOLD HA I think it was? It was around $23 per tin. We had no probs after that!

I don't belong in twins but saw in recent topics original.gif

I used one tine every 6 days for my singleton so one tine every 3 days for twins sounds right to me!

My DS always ate more than the "recommended" amount.

Congrats on your beauitful bubbies!

Sorry no expert on twin feeding but just to say Karicare do an HA formula that is gentler on their tummies, maybe worth a go.

that's about right. I hope you are buying direct from Karicare? call them on the number on the can. You can multiples discount. It's only $13.88 for the Gold.

My two were on formula right from the start. We used to go through a tin every 2 -3 days.

Nutricia (Karicare) sells formula in bulk, need to provide a letter from the doctor, birth certificates to set up an account, we always had free delivery but I think it depends were you live.

When we changed from Karicare birth to AR due to reflux, it took them a good month to get used to it, horrible nappy rash (even when we were doing 3/4 Karicare birth and 1/4 AR), we gradually increased the amount of AR until the reflux was under control.

I wouldn't be changing the formula right away, maybe give them a week to get used to it.

Good luck

S26 has a higher amount of iron I believe and is notorious for causing constipation. I would stick with Kari for a while and see how you go.

1tin every 3ish days sounds like what we were going through when we went full time ff at around 6wks. I would give them a week or so to adjust to it. Constipation is horrible for them sad.gif I definitely noticed a change in the consistency of their poo once we went to full time ff, much harder, like plasticine.

Hope the drops help and they adjust to the formula soon,

Yes constipated on S26 Gold (also used as the SCN put them on this).

Yes have always needed a new tin every 3 days.

Karicare Gold didn't agree with them either.

Karicare HA Gold did though! tthumbs.gif

what does the HA part mean?

Sorry I don't have twins but all my babies used a tin per week. I just have to say that your photo of your twins is the cutest pic I've ever seen. Absolutely gorgeous. wub.gif

HA formula are partially hydrolysed and therefore easier to digest. Helped my girls with their colic and reflux issues as it was gentler on their stomachs.

QUOTE
Karicare HA Gold Plus is partially hydrolysed and may be less challenging to an infant's immune system.

*Karicare HA Gold Plus is hypo-allergenic with a unique formulation of special ingredients including hydrolysed protein (from milk). These support your baby's digestive and immune systems. A well supported immune system helps babies thrive.
