I have started a few topics about mc twins now. My 2 are identical genetically, but I think quite different physically. Enough that most people don't even think they are twins, let alone monochorionic twins. They don't even have the same hair colour.
Do your identical twins have the same bellybutton?
Mine don't. One has an innie and one has a tiny, tiny belly button that is a slight outie.
I am curious as to whether my boys differences are caused by ones IUGR, or if other id twins have differences too.
BabyBanana
I dont have twins but I will say something about the belly button.

My Dd has an outie because of soemthing to do with weak stomach muscles not pulling it in when she was a new born

So maybe thats why one has an outie and one has an innie.

Sorry to crash!

I would think that it all depends on how it heals after birth and isn't genetically influenced as much as it's influenced by other factors.
Elemenopee
That's ok, crash away.
I don't think he has a herniated (sp?) belly button, my other 2 had slight one but his is different. Just a slight rise.

I will have to check now! From memory I think they are the same.

ID twins (DNA tested) .... One innie, one outie... wouldn't it have more to do with how the cord was cut off/stump fell off???? Just a thought.

*CalamityJane*
I was sure my midwife told me it was genetic/inherent. She was joking about if you were a bad patient during labour she'd give your baby an outie biggrin.gif, then explained she was only joking and how you cut the cord made no difference - it will turn out how it turns out. I could be totally wrong - I was about a billion weeks pregnant with twins when she told me that.

Oh and FTR my ID twins have the same shaped belly button. They have different hair whorls though.

My ID twins have very similar bellybuttons, but other major physical differences. For instance, one has a thrid nipple and the other doesn't! They do look very similar though, and are obviously ID twins to look at them.

My 2 are the same in EVERY WAY! People can't tell them apart mellow.gif

~Bec~
That's funny - I used to use the bellybuttons to tell my ID twins apart! One looks like a smiley face, and one like a back to front J.

Now smiley face twin has an innie, and back to front J twin has an outie if she eats too much Tounge1.gif.

Thanks everyone for replying, I find it interesting that some have really different bellybuttons, yet some are identical.
Bec, I love the idea of having to use belly buttons to tell them apart, I have never had that problem.
BoyOhBoy, mine weren't dna tested, it was pathology on the placenta that showed one chorion.

I will have to check my boys belly buttons, I think one has an inny and one a slight outy

My girls have the same little outie belly button. Skye has a huge brown mole just under hers though that her sister doesn't have. DNA tested identicals also.

Okay, I just checked and my girls have quite similar belly button shapes (and the cutest little bellies - I thoroughly enjoyed just giving them a little rub wub.gif ). Sophie's is possibly slightly more frowny faced. After Delilah's dropped off a little bit of it started to grow back and so there was this little ball of new growth and you can see that in her belly button still so that makes them different.

They have different hair whorls though.

Us too. Sophie has a double crown and an almighty cowlick/whorl at the front of her hair (no lovely swept sideways fringe for this little girlie). D has a single crown and no cowlick.

I am fascinated by how differently they are teething. I was sure that would be genetic but apparently not.
