Which ereader do you have? Positives and negatives for it and which are the best (free) sites to download from?

I love the thought of having hundreds of books sitting there waiting for me to read them (but not having to rush and return borrowed books or worry about the kids grabbing them with their grotty hands).
It really sounds like heaven.

Would appreciate any feedback and advice. Mothers' Day is coming up dev (6).gif

I have a Kindle and I love it to death.

It is purely an Amazon product but there are other sites that you can use to download books from like Smashwords, Baen Books etc. As for purely free books, there are a few but you usually have to pay for them as they are still copyrighted like regular books.

In saying that books are usually heaps cheaper than they are for the printed versions.

The only downside with the Kindle is that not all books are available in Australia, but the US have the same problem as well, so books might be available here but not in the US. There is a way around it but sometimes people get caught.

There is another thread here about the Kindle which was started not long ago, maybe have a search of that and see what people say. It also goes into the pros and cons of other readers.

I must say that it is awesome not to have to carry around books all the time.

My Kindle has paid itself off plus some in the 2 months I have had it. I have about 30 books on there to be read and most of those were free. There is a site (Inkmesh) that shows the free or cheap books for each reader that come in on a daily basis, so you could have a look at that too.

Good luck finding one that you would like to buy and have fun when you do get it.

I love my kindle too, and you can get around purchasing only books from Australia and it's quite easy to do. I didn't think I'd like having a gadget to read on but it feels so natural. I can't bring myself to pick up a real book anymore.

Heather - I am the same. I have a few real books at home that I didn't get to read before I got my Kindle and I can't bring myself to pick them up now either. I am just going to download them on my Kindle.

And yes it is easy to get around the purchasing books from Australia thing wink.gif

I was looking at the Bebook Neo or the Kindle DX. How do you "get around the purchasing books from Australia" thingy?

you just log into your amazon account and set your address to a US address, you can use a friends or even just look up a hotel online and use their address. I think it eventually will reset itself back to Australia but if you do it and then purchase a book straight away you're good to go

Yep what heather said. Only thing though once you set it to a US address don't swap and change between your US and Oz addy cause they will catch up with you and realize what you are doing unfortunately. That is when you get the email from them asking you for proof of residency ie. Copy of DL or something with your US addy on it. If you can't produce that then they will revert your account to your Oz addy and if you change back and break the rules then they can cancel your account altogether ause it is against terms and conditions and you are also breaching copyright laws.

Thankfully I have been ok with mine and crossing my fingers they don't catch me.

Don't know much about the Bebo so I can't comment on that but I do love my kindle.
