Sorry it's a little off topic but this made me think of it. I've always pronounced Orlaith and Orla differently as Or-lay-f/Or-ly-f and Or-lah. Are they actually pronounced the same?

I always thought they were said the same! But I could be wrong.... I rather imagine the "aith" ending to be a really silent/soft sound that comes out more like "ah".

I started a post about the name Orla ages ago, after I heard it on Supernanny once.
http://www.essentialbaby.com.au/forums/ind...=465550&hl= I am not a fan of Irish names, but I do really like Orla and I love Bridget.

Just a thought - for those of you who actually know how some of these suggestions are pronounced, could you put a phonetic after them, please???!!!

I've only heard them pronounced the same here in Scotland - both said Or-lah.

pingu82 - you must be on our wavelength... we have already used an Irish form of Helen!!! And it sounds reasonably similar.
