Here for more traffic...blah blah blah..

What in your kitchen can you not live without?

I want to hear everything. I'm getting a brand new kitchen next week and i'm using it as an excuse to get rid of the old and get all new stuff....so answers please.. biggrin.gif

Microwave!
LottieCait
Water filter/cooler. I love it. Also my slow cooker and electric frypan are used all the time!

Slow cooker
Premium rice cooker (I think it was $300 -- worth every extra dollar, it's perfect every time and with a Japanese DH we eat rice every day.)
Deep sided, heavy-bottomed, glass-lidded fry pan
Lrg stainless steel roasting pan (lid and rack)

Things that I have that I would not get again (as another way to look at your Q):
Breadmaker - ocassional fun, but not really useful
Electric wok - despite expense and 'correct' tools, teflon peeled, and the frypan gives a better finish anyway
'Cheap' rice cooker - use it for pasta, but that's just because i want to justify its purchase -- should chuck it out.
Deep Fryer -- works perfectly, but I am racked with guilt every time I use it - why am I clogging my family's collective arteries (just b/c I'm a "chip"-tart)??

anyway -- enjoy getting new stuff!! I love that!

my microwave.... its a dinosaur but because its so old its big and fits anything in it rather than some of those tiny things now!

in winter... my slow cooker

in summer... my deep frier

thermomix biggrin.gif

I love my rice cooker too.

Cast iron dutch oven or camp oven as I got it in the camping section of K-mart I use it for stews, casseroles, deep frying and to make bread

Knife block

Aluminium pizza trays, I use them for all sorts of things, espcially good for baking bickies, making pavlova and for drying out the rice before making fried rice (they're great as aluminium heats up quickly and cools very quickly)

I wish I had a double sink (as I have no dishwasher) so that would be on my list if I had more room

I wish I had somewhere I could keep all of my spices (like a shallow drawer in the pantry)

I guess I could live without most of it, but I wouldn't want to give up my stand mixer, cast iron enamelled cookware, Stephanie Alexander cookbook, tagine, good knife set or stick mixer. But the most used appliance in the kitchen would have to be the toaster. It's the simple things original.gif

On the other hand, the pie maker, electric steamer and egg cooker could all go without causing any tears whatsoever.

The slow cooker I'd have to think about. It would be a lot more useful if we ate meat, but it's still awesome for making baked beans.

Quite possibly I could live without all of it, but I'd rather not live without the KitchenAid, tagine, scanpan frypan and rice cooker.

If I had a blue Le Creuset I'd give it a name and hug it every day.

I haven't owned a microwave in over 10 years and don't miss it one bit.

AbsolutCara I think you might be my long lost twin original.gif

My blue le creuset is made of awesome. And the kitchenaid is practical, looks good with an ice cream attachment that rocks. What more can you ask of an appliance?

Slow cooker and my chefs knives. wink.gif
Canberra chick
slowcooker, breadmaker, stick blender, food processor, chopping boards, sharp knives. And tonnes of bowls to put raw ingredients in/prep cake mix etc. I have a good mix of plastic, pyrex and ceramic.
Nora.
Coffee machine.
Bottle opener.
beccit
Grill - we grill everything here meat, vegies.. biggrin.gif even fruit!
*alpharuby*
knife sharpener
coffee machine

I have a silicone steamer that I got from Myer.

I desperately want a mix master but I'm waiting for the mid year sales.

Good quality basic utensils like the cheese grater, garlic press, peeler etc. I've gradually replaced all the cheap stuff and I would never go back.

A decent selection and variety of cutting boards (glass, wooden and plastic)

Baking tins in various shapes and sizes
Glr-r
Nespresso <3

I use my tupperware microwave jug nearly everytime I cook. Usually for vege's.
STB4
Oh yeah. Heaps and heaps of tupperware (not necessarily the brand Tounge1.gif )
sebela
Hmm, sharp knives (and great sharpener), double sink, le crueset pot/s, thermomix
Chillax
My 1950s Sunbeam Mixmaster. It's so old, it's gotta be retro cool by now!!

I love baking so i use it non-stop.

Following on from that i couldn't live without my scales, cake tins and measuring spoons....

Exactly!

I'm going to put my Christmas present request out there now, and start dreaming about it Tounge1.gif

I haven't read replies but I figure that if you don't already have it, you're probably able to live without it just fine.... wink.gif

I use my Magimix and slow cooker several times a week. Kitchen Aid is once a month. One day I'll sell it. Not worth the money for me.

My rice cooker is used every couple of days but it's a cheapy and not great. I'd love a better one. Breadmaker gets used about once a fortnight.

I'd happily live without a microwave - I really only use it to reheat meals, which I could easily do on the stove.

Good knives, good quality pots and pans, and a great oven/stove. Oh, and plenty of bench space. That's what really matters.

No! (stamps feet) AbsoluteCara is MY kitchen twin!

Actually, I have a blue Le Creuset pot and a red Le Creuset pan, and am secretly hankering after the terrine.

My microwave sits on a high, high shelf in the laundry. Stupid device.
GrizzlyMadams
Sorry, I should have said OP that I can't live without the family Le Creuset, and my Scanpan non-stick frypan, and I have a japanese mandolin which i use all the time too, and some Shun knives. Their bread knife is just the best.
~THE~MAGICIAN~
FP dishdrawer!
benlsmum
a deep drawer for all my plastic containers, when I open it they don't fall out, tthumbs.gif
Snagglepussed
A cruset and my Italian Moka stove top coffee maker!
MummaSgettie
Dishwasher, double oven, slow cooker, microwave, Tupperware (lots), massive baking dishes and roasting tins, pizza & biscuit trays, food processor (although I have almost killed mine sad.gif blush.gif ), four slice toaster, excellent knife set with sharpener.

Sorry I am a little kitchen obsessed atm. blush.gif

We renovated our kitchen last year and I got an induction cooktop. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! Better than anything I have ever cooked with (it did mean we had to give up our Anolon pans for induction friendly ones though which was very sad).

eta that I also love the pull our drawers in our pantry and I love our undermount sink and stone bench. I wasn't sure if you are more after appliance ideas though??
~TSC~
Thermomix, FP dishdrawer dishwasher, coffee machine plus lots of drawers in the kitchen
papilio
Dishwasher, coffee machine - although when it dies, I might get one like Girolama's - and A's Furi knife.
Chelara
I have a baby blue Le crueset, we got it for free off our credit card rewards, Cara- if you have a credit card check the rewards you might find one there. We also got out kettle, toaster, toaster oven and cutlery set from the rewards so doing pretty good on that front.

I use the plain cast iron more than my le crueset though.

Microwave
Slowcooker

They are the most used items in my kitchen, they would be replaced in a heart beat if anything ever happened to them. I use the microwave every day, and the slowcooker 3-4 times a week.

Everything else I can do without.

Lynn
boolean
In order of importance

coffee machine
ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS knives (replaced the awful globals)
kitchen aid
Staub cook ware (replaced the le creuset)
Joseph joseph chopping boards
Nigella lawson mixing bowls.

what I'd leave off the list are the SCAMPANS, everybody I know has chucked theirs including myself.
Bobbybooche
My Actifry by Tefal! I am in Luurve!

My cousin told me about it at the beginning of the year and I got one the next day! It makes chips with 1 tablespoon of oil and the are truly the BEST chips ever! They are just yummy so now rather than having having chips maybe twice a year, I have them once a week!
Sinister Bonnet
I like my scanpans. They are 2 years old and still in good condition.

I haven't used my slowcooker in literally years and only use the microwave to defrost or to boil water.
