I wasn't sure whether to put this in books or movies. I know there are a lot of fans of the books in here and interested in their impressions.

The characters look a lot more glamourous than what I expected and the 'war' scenes a bit Hollywood-ised. I'm still looking forward to going to see it when it gets to the cinemas in September. I wonder what the rating will be.

I was a huge fan of the books as a teenager and have been looking forward to a screen adaptation since it was first discussed in 1997 or so. I'm surprised by how glossy it looks too.

I'm also disappointed with the casting. Phoebe Tonkin (Fiona) and Caitlin Stasey (Ellie) bear absolutely no physical resemblance to the way their characters were described in the books, and Lincoln Lewis (Kevin) comes across as way too glamorous to pull off the role he was given.

I hope I'm proved wrong when its released and we can see more of the film substance and less of the explosions. ;-)

I bought this book for my then 12 year old DS last year. He got bored with it in the first chapter, so I thought I would give it a go. I have persisted, am about 3/4 through, have found it very slow, but I will eventually finish it.
I will be interested to see the movie though.

just looked at the trailer, looks good.

I loved these books as a teenager. The trailer didn't give away too much and I thought it looked pretty good - but being such a big fan, I will probably go see the movie even if the trailer was terrible!

Oh I am very interested int he movie, I loved the books when I was a teen, never got through them all though, maybe that can be my next thing to read lol.

What date does the movie come out does anyone know?
mrsjessop
It says September, Shanilee.

I loved the books so much I bought the series and the Ellie Chronicles.

My DD (12) also loves them. We are hoping to see the movie together - she goes to boarding school and there are no movie theatres in our town.

I can't wait for the movie to come out, i only read the books just before christmas and i couldn't put them down, I was told about the next series but couldn't remember what they were called so thankyou ~*Erica*~

I have just finished the marathon reading of both series. Movies made into books that I have loved always scare me as does this one.

No one looks like pictured them but one of the things I enjoyed about the book was that they weren't overly descriptive of looks so you could form your own image.

Hi Cath

I am even more concerned after seeing an interview with the young woman who plays Ellie. She was quite glamourous and had an English accent. I imagined Ellie to be quite a normal looking tomboy. I can see it being more like Celebrity Survivor than gritty, young adult drama.

These are my favourite books ever. Even including Twilight and Harry Potter biggrin.gif

I have been waiting for a movie for many years. When I was about 16 I dreamed of making the movie myself and of course featuring me as Ellie. I adore Ellie and all she stands for. When I found out that Caitlin Stasey was cast as her I was a little dissapointed and ever more so by that interview with her posh pommy accent. I will be highly p*ssed if she comes across as posh in the movie because Ellie is everything but!!!

And Fiona is so not Fiona...

But we will have to wait and see the movie and then judge. It better lives up to my exceedingly high expectations biggrin.gif But then again, nothing could be the same as the way I see it all in my head!!!

This thread is making me want to go back and read the series again (again again, again......) biggrin.gif

Maybe you should biggrin.gif

Have you read the Ellie Chronicles?? They aren't bad. The first one will have you wanting more, the second I have to say it's not Marsden's best work and the third is pretty good!

Loved the books, read the whole series, even considered calling my daughter Ellie (overruled by DH). Can't wait for the movie. Trailer looked good to me. rolleyes.gif

I'm disappointed by the casting - not what I had pictured at all.
Homer is supposed to be a big muscly farm dude and the actor cast to play him looks way too delicate.
I hate that they've used well-known teen actors as now I'll have Rachel Kinski in my head the whole time!
BUT John Marsden is known for being a bit of an a*s*hole so i think anything less than excellent and he wouldn't have approved it, so I'm hoping that this proves right.
aussiebella
Well. I saw the movie last night and it was BRILLIANT!!!!!!

There were a few variations from the book but they worked well and I so enjoyed it. I got to meet John Marsden, tell him how awesome he was and get a photo and autograph.
The actors were all really good suprisingly. It was just the best night of my life really biggrin.gif I'm such a die hard fan!!

purps If we have another little girl her name is going to be Ruby Ella!! I can't use Ellie because it doesn't go with our last name and Ruby..too many eeee sounds. BUT If I have twins it might be Ellie biggrin.gif

I wanted to BE Ellie...she is my hero...along with John biggrin.gif
