I've had a rough couple of days lately. I've currently got all 5 of my kids sick with ear & throat infections and have not had very much sleep due to kids waking up & crying every 20-30 minutes overnight. It was my birthday yesterday and whilst I am not under any kind of illusion that birthdays as you are older are anything different to a normal day, I had a pretty crappy day and didn't feel very "special". ( I'll get over it lol)

Today while I was emailing a friend, I discovered on my imac that you can put a "speaking" function on to read your emails to you. So tonight, once the kids were fast asleep (and definitely out of earshot) being the very mature 30 year old I now am, I typed out as many naughty words as I could think of and turned on the speech function.

I have not laughed so hard in a long time!!! Yes I know, really childish of me but do you know what? I feel relaxed and so much better for it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY for yesterday! I think what you did is great and I would love you to tell me how I can do that on my computer!

Don't you just love AppleMacs...just when you think there is nothing else to enjoy, that small, beautifully designed piece of machinery shows you there is hope........ biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
Hope the ear and throat infections get better soon.
You can also give your iMac commands verbally; if you want to close a window or ask the time you can just talk to it. The best bit...it doesn't answer back or ask "why"....
Maybe a woman was behind the design after all. original.gif

Thanks for the birthday wishes ladies, now I feel like a bit of an ASW laugh.gif

gfgirl, I don't know how to do it on other computers, sorry. There was a mother website ( or one of those energy drinks) where you could type whatever you wanted, choose a character voice and it would read it out to you. That was always good for a laugh too.

KTB65 how do I configure it to take verbal commands? I'd love to do that.

Is it sad that I just did the same?

Happy birthday. 30 is a special landmark, you really should celebrate at some stage. We all went out for Mexican for mine. Maybe when the kids are all better?

(I don't have a Mac, my PC does the same thing)

It's funny you should say that actually. Years ago when I was at College my friend was typing into a word type document and getting the reader to read it aloud. He wrote 'Juppy is a poo jaber" and they thought it was hilarious because it pronounced it to rhyme with sabre. I then pointed out they had spelled jabber wrong.

Anyway fast forward a few years and I tell my friend that story. Her phone reads out messages so she asked me to send it to her in a message and she would get it read out. So I sent the message but I accidentally sent it to Juppy so he randomly got a message from me calling him a poo jaber laughing2.gif I only realised when I got a message back saying LOL WTF? laughing2.gif

So be careful you don't send any of them laughing2.gif

Happy Birthday and I hope the kids get better soon!

You can configure Windows on PCs to talk to you as "Microsoft Sam". Don't know if you can set him up to follow commands though Tounge1.gif

AuntyC- I should of added, I am having a themed birthday party in a few weeks time. Childfree WOOHOO! For the first time in 10 years I'll be able to let my hair down and enjoy a few beverages . I worked out that in the last decade I've only had 6mths where I've not been either pregnant or breastfeeding! blink.gif

Happy 30th for yesterday!

I turned 31 a couple of weeks ago and thought this might be the birthday where I become a really mature mother of 5 but it hasn't happened quite yet....maybe when I turn 40 cool.gif

Hahaha, that sounds like fun. Hope your kids are better today. I got my mobile phone to read my sms out loud. That was fun for awhile. Have not tried naughty words tho. Sounds like something to do when I have a crappy day. original.gif

I love Microsoft Sam. To me, he sounds like the voice that Stephen Hawking uses, so in my mind it's like having Hawking lives inside my computer.

Well you be very careful between now and then. You don't want to spoil all the fun.

I crack myself up all the time. My sister laughs at me when I laugh at my own jokes. I think I'm pretty hilarious laughing2.gif
