My DD is 2yrs 3mths & the only reason I can think of as to why she is behaving the way she is that her molars might be coming through or she has suffered a mood change due to being on Redipred shrug.gif

On Friday DD saw a doctor due to having croup, she was put on Redipred & had her last dose yesterday morning. Whilst at the doctor she had her throat & ears checked which were all perfectly healthy & she didn't have a temperature either (& still doesn't) but she was complaining about her mouth hurting.
Yesterday DD was very irritable & refused to sleep or eat much & by yesterday afternoon she was acting very 'moody' which obviously was esculated by being overtired. Late yesterday afternoon DDs tantrums turned quite violent (to herself) & I have never before seen this behaviour, she was purposley jumping under the kitchen bench so her head would hit hard on the bench & she was throwing things & even jumped to launch herself off the back of our lounge & coffee table. I took DD for a warm bath to try to calm her but it just made her more hysterical which again is completly out of character for her as she loves baths, I ended up carrying DD outside to try & calm her (which worked) & she later fell asleep on my lap on the lounge.

This morning DD again is 'moody' & still saying her mouth is sore, Dd let me look and I can't see a thing except for right up at the back where I can see two little white tips of what I assume is her molars cutting (her gums don't look red or inflamed). DD hasn't eaten a single thing today & is even refusing her favourite snacks & treats sad.gif After a massive tantrum mid morning I asked DD to go to her room & calm down as I can't talk to her when she is behaving the way she is ie screaming & throwing things. I honestly expected DD to not stay in her room (she has a gate across her door usually but I didn't put it on because it technically wasn't sleep time) but she just put herself to bed & is now asleep.

After thinking about what could be causing her current mood I have come up with 2 possible reasons 1) cutting her 2yr old molars or 2) a mood change due to being on Redipred. She does not have a temperature, she does have a cough but no blocked or runny nose.

Please offer any suggestions or advice if you have any, I don't know how to help my DD cry1.gif

I she has been prescribed RediPred, she is sick, so that might be just it. I was told by my GP that Hand Foot & Mouth disease is going around so another visit to the doctor might be an idea. I haven't heard of RediPred causing any issues like that (but havent looked it up either).

Have you tried paracetamol? If it's her teeth, that should help.
My boys will go hyper and not sleep so great when in prednisilone/redipred, but each react differently.

Has she been on redipred before. Is there paperwork in the box about possible reactions? Maybe call the pharmacy and ask? Some of the things you say sound hyper, but other things don't match up. Maybe a mix of both? Or perhaps from feeling unwell?

Hope tomorrow is a better dayfor you both.

Redi pred makes my DS who is 4 this year go absolutely bonkers!! He is normally a pretty relaxed kid but throws tantrums, jumos from furniture, screams at us etc etc. He just finished a 5 day course (thank god!!).
My friend calls it "roid rage" as in steriod rage and both our peads have said its normal as it hypes them up!!

The teething wouldnt be helping the mood either i would assume. Hope things improve for you soon original.gif

Redipred makes my son hyper and I find that combined with being sick is enough to make his behaviour rotten.

However the fact that your little one is complaining of a sore mouth makes me think that there is more going on. It could be that she now has an sore throat because croup is caused by a viral infection and it may have moved to her thoat, or it could be her teeth. Did you try a dose of panadol to see if that helped things?

I have tried panadol (just before DD went to sleep) & she has woken a little less irritable but still not her usual self. DD has managed to eat half a sandwich & some grapes now so that's a start I guess but she is just miserable.

She is indicating that it is the inside of her mouth that hurts, DH said she but her gum Saturday night whilst eating so maybe it's that, but I had a look and can't see anything shrug.gif

Oh God I hope not hands.gif DD had this when she was about 20mths old & it was HELL for the both of us for a week. I had already considered this as my friends DD who was playing with my DD last week had high tems over the weekend & friend has noticed a ulcer on the tip of her tounge (both my DD & friends DD had HF&M at the same time last year too believed to be picked up from the gym childminding that our girls go to). I have checked my DDs mouth, hands & feet & can see no blisters/ulcers but will keep monitering. Last time DD had it though she had a temperature & she doesn't atm.

If it is viral there isn't anything I can do about it anyway, so will just have to keep up the panadol & fluids & ride it out.

Hey there, not sure if you hve sorted out the problem yet, but my Nephew, who is the same age as my DD, just turned two, is cutting all of his molars, one if fully through........and he has been CRAZY CRAZY for the last week

he never ever has had sleeping issues, and at the moment he wont sleep during the day and is waking during the night, and in general is just really really MAD all the time!

Just imagine, its like when we have a sore tooth.....times 4!

poor little kiddies

(oh and for him, nurofen doesnt do a thing!!)

My son has been on redipred beofre and yes he is exactly the same as you DD behaviour wise - very aggressive and violent, and sleepy - also hyperactive..

Its very hard to watch, but it should calm down in a day or so....that is the worst thing about redipred - very strong medication.....
Kemismum
I was told by my Gp that after croup and the redipred dose is finished to be prepared for strong flu symptoms.

DS2 has just finished 2 courses of redipred and is getting about 6 teeth through and is the same. I'm not sure what is causing it but I hope it ends fast for us and for you!
No girls here
I was on Prednisone regularly as a kid and have had periods of being on it as an adult. It does keep me awake. It makes my brain overactive and I can't switch off to go to sleep.

When I was a kid my mum noticed that I was a bit over emotional when I was on Prednisone, and I think that was probably just a result of not getting enough sleep.

My DD has never had any reaction to Predmix which is I think the same as Redipred. If her mouth is sore due to molars she might be a bit extra grumpy, but Panadol or Bonjela should fix that.

It could just be normal toddler behaviour, there are very large mood swings to be expected. DD sometimes behaves a bit like that little girl in Poltergeist for no obvious reason at all.

Well yesterday was a better day & today was a great day so DD is on the mend from whatever it was that was upsetting her so much thank goodness biggrin.gif

Hi, my son who's nearly 3 is cutting his 2nd molars and he has had a massive personality change since doing so. He has turned into a horror in every way!! I know it's his teeth as I see him constantly with his fingers in his mouth and chewing on his blankie, but I never knew it could cause such a personality change! He also isn't eating much either and is totally refusing his day sleeps. I guess it must hurt a lot - I know I'm pretty irritable and short-tempered when I have a toothache! You'll know for sure when your daughter comes off the redipred...I haven't heard many positive things about that medicine though - stomach irritability (give it with food), hyperactiveness, major irritability etc.
Make sure you keep her liquids up - she might even appreciate diluted fruit juice for energy, if youre not giving that to her already. I guess you just have to ride it out, although I know it's so frustrating not knowing what is wrong and feeling so helpless. sad.gif
Hope things sort themselves out soon x
