My DS is ready to move into a bed. He was 2 in October.

We are moving house and I thought seeing as we are already changing his environment should we just put him straight into a bed at the new house.

OR should we just leave him in his cot so something is familiar.

We have been talking to him and he wants a bed. He says when he goes to new house he wants a bed and not his cot. He wants to be a big like his sister and have a bed.

He sleeps fine in the cot. He makes no attempt to get out and if we werent moving I would probably leave him in the cot for a little longer.

I am not sure what to do. I think we are just going to get a bed and move him straight into that in the new house. I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts.

He and his sister will share a room for a little while until we do some renovations. She is obviously in a bed so he will see her bed in their room. I thought he might like to have the same as her seeing as he seems to want to do everything his sister does.

seeing as he is asking for one, I would just move him into a bed, he sounds ready.

Both my girls have been in beds since 13 months old

We moved in October 2009 actually with our 2 and a half year old. We kept him in the cot.

When moving time came we moved him into a spare room and let him sleep in the cot for another couple of weeks while everything settled. During this time, we painted his new room and made it very exciting for him - eg: a little bit of decorating with aeroplanes etc to make it a big boys room. He watched this process and was so excited. When the paint smells disapeared we moved him into his new room and into a bed. He was so happy after watching us prepare it - he loved moving into his bed and big boys room. It has been a very smooth transition.

I would definitely recommend leaving him in the cot. We were considering doing the bed before the move but I am so glad we kept him in the cot - something so cosy and familiar. My advice is to do the bed in the new house, after you have settled in.

I think because he is asking to go into a bed - I would do the move from the cot to a bed when you move house.

We went on holidays when my son was just over 2 years old and there was no cot so he had to sleep in the bed, after being on holidays for 4 weeks we came home from holiday he went straight into a bed. He didn't want his cot anymore - he even helped me pull it down & put it away sad.gif

We moved house around the same age. We bought my dd a big bed and once we moved in she moved straight into it and loved it. She used to get out of her cot and sleep behind the door anyway. We did have to get her a night light in the new house but she loved her bed
