Can someone please tell me why they are seen as the gods of hair straighteners???
I need a new hair straightener soon and I want to know why these are better than my cheapo remington!
Thanks heaps and I appreciate any replies

I love my GHD. I've had it for a couple of years now and would be lost without it! My hair is pretty straight, but can be a little frizzy. After drying my hair, it literally takes 5 mins max to run the straightener through my hair and it's dead straight with no frizz. I also like how it only takes about 1 minute to heat up.
I have never used a Remington, so not sure how they compare.

I've never previously had a straightner so can't compare to any others but I love my GHD. Like the PP said, it takes a minute (if not less) to heat up and it doesn't damage your hair. Apparently you don't even need to use heat protecting products with it

I used to own a Remington which broke, then purchased a GHD. You will be able to tell a huge difference in the effort required and result of straightening. They are expensive, but well worth it.
My Remington didnt even last 1 year, I have had my GHD for around 3 years now.

Thanks guys, I'd love to hear more about them!!!
So far I understand that:
They take less time to heat up
They take less time to straighten your hair
They do less damage to your hair

I have two other straighteners and have also used some friends. GHDs are fantastic. You can curl and straighten. I have really fine hair and when i used to straighten it it would go dry and the ends were crap. Even though the size of a GHD is small you only have to go over each section once. Its also easy to add body. Have a look around some hairdressers. They do promotions where you can exchange your old straightener in when you buy a GHD. I got $80 off.

Oh...I just LOVE mine!
I got a 'Precious" for xmas:
Light weight
Hotter than any other straightner I've used
No 'teeth' (my old straightner had a built in comb which used to drag my hair)
You can curl (You tube has a billion demo's how to curl with one)
They look good!
Once you get one, you'll realise how crappy your old one is! Well I did anyway.

I have 4yr old Sunbeam brand straightners. Went away with some friends last weekend and someone bought their GHD's. They are awesome!! So quick and easy, my hair looked like I had just walked out of a salon with about 5 mins of effort!

I brought my Friend one for Xmas as she was on and on about them. I barely straighten my hair but brought one for myself at the same time.
Mine heats in about 20 seconds and it is so easy to straighten. My friend also loves the one I got her.
I used to not use a straightner as I have thick hair and it took too long but my GHD takes only 5 minutes or so.
Definately worth the money if you use a straightner a bit.

What hairdressers offer this deal, where you can exchange your old straightener and get a discount?

They're definitely the "Mecca" of hair straighteners - unlike the cheapies on the market, it honestly takes very minimal time and effort to straighten your hair with a GHD. I love mine.

Once you straighten your hair it actually stays straight.
I dont bother blowdrying anymore. I just let my frizzy thick hair dry naturally and then run the GHD over it. Takes heaps less time, looks like I have had a professional blow dry and lasts for days.

My remington one heats up in 1 minute and when I straighten it, it stays straight for two days... Maybe different brands work better on different people??
What type of warranty comes on a GHD?

I have a Remington too. I am sure it is not as good as a GHD, but it cost $25 5 year ago and still works. It does take a couple of minutes to heat up but straightens my hair well and it lasts all day and into the next.
I do know people that love thier GHD and i would buy one if they were cheaper.
They are just too expensive for me.
What sort of prices have people paid for them???

ANY hot irons on your hair will cause damage if used a lot or incorrectly. GHD also sell a range of heat protection prodcuts. Best to always use something when using irons or blowdrying.

I bought a GHD recently and the difference between it and my old Remington is huge. Originally I didn't think it would be worth it because my hair is already straight but it really is. It takes seconds to get to temp compared to 1-3 minutes. It takes no time to do my hair because I only have to go over it once. I have long hair and it would take maybe 5 or so minutes to fully straighten my hair. With the Remington it would take 10-15 minutes or more. Plus I can curl really easily with the GHD.
I bought the Precious pack that comes with a travel hairdryer and it is gorgeous, cost just over $300.

I just got one... so much better than the other straighteners I had. It's heats up super quick and stays hot so you don't need to put it down and wait for it to reheat. It also runs really smoothly over my hair.
I got a good deal from ry(dot)com(dot)au .... search "christmas GHD" for a pack that includes a mini hairdryer and a heat mat. For an extra discount put in the promo code "VOGUERY" when you checkout.

They are just simply amazing. I have a Breville or Remington - cant quite remember but it wasnt cheap nor expensive.
I then stayed with a girlfriend who had a GHD and I borrowed it and the difference was amazing!
Well worth the extra money I couldnt believe the difference....

I also have a silver bullet. I was deciding between one and a GHD and the hair dresser told me the silver bullet is exactly the same except it doesnt have auto cut off if you leave it on. I have tight ringlets and have used both and there is no difference. The fact that the hair dresser didnt push me to buy the more expensive one was enough for me.
They look identical.
