Weigh-in day!

I've lost 1 kilo this week, so that makes 6 kilos lost so far YAY!

Kylie - so glad you caught with with Miss K. She's really lovely and I really have to give her a call ooops!

Car seats - I didn't turn DD until she was 9 months old and I will be trying to wait until DS is 12 months old this time. It's just not worth the risk.

Rach

Edited so as not to offend... blush.gif

hi my name is molly, i've been reading but haven't posted anything as yet. i have a son, Bradley, 4 months old.

solids- i agree with raky, it is to each parents' discretion and doc's advice. Bradley has been eating solids for around 2 months, once a day. I don't believe i am irresponsible, I'm just going with my gut and i have a happy, healthy baby biggrin.gif I respect the opinions and actions of each and every parent. here is something i looked up after reading the posts... I've never heard of a baby being ellergic to pumpkin and potato, have you?

"It's possible to be allergic to any food, but these eight food groups are responsible for 90 percent of food allergies: eggs, milk, peanuts, wheat, soy, tree nuts (like walnuts, Brazil nuts, and cashews), fish (such as tuna, salmon, and cod), and shellfish (like lobster, shrimp, and crab)."

koiles
I'm so p*ssed off right now. The lovely Bee sent me a link to the Royal Childrens Hospital who have a clinic for unsettled babies...in their paraphernalia they said that waiting time is usually 1-2 weeks. So of course I got my hopes up. I called this morning to book him in and the lady said because they close for Xmas and the whole of January, there's currently a 7 week backlog to get in. I played the crying card (not intentionally I just couldn't help it), I told them I was on the brink of PND, that I was on 5 other waitlists (to show my desperation)...nope wouldn't budge. I know I shouldn't be p*ssed off...there's other mothers who are feeling exactly the same as I am...but I AM p*ssed off. Right at least I got that off my chest. What a start to the day.

Weigh-in haven't weighed myself yet oops, thanks for the reminder Rach!

Rach I think the research is so conflicting because no one can possibly create a broad statement that is going to fit every single child. There is a 12 week old at mums group that is huge, she's holding her head up big time, she can sit up on her hands and knees in the crawling position, she's just amazing...there's no way her mum can keep her away from solids anymore, she is so totally ready. It's a 'recommendation' to not start solids until after 4-6 months, but it's the same as growth charts, they're there as a guide...not every child fits onto a growth chart, but at the end of the day if your baby is off the chart for weight at 3 months old they're not necessarily going to be an obese child or adult. I don't agree with feeding solids just for the sake of it...or just to get a better night's sleep either ph34r.gif. But I think a mum knows when their child is ready and if the child is showing signs of wanting food before the magical age where 'they' say you should give it to them, then do it. The beauty of BLW is that you can start introducing tastes to them without starting to shovel food down their gob. Hope that made sense! Woo-hoo on the 1kg...you've done SO WELL since you started WW tthumbs.gif!

Molly waves.gif welcome to our group! Congratulations on Bradley wub.gif.

Jess miinii ouch, you made me cringe just THINKING of how bad your DH is sunburnt! ffear.gif Lol EB gives me the sh*ts sometimes too...that's when I know it's time to stop reading the general section for a while...so many condescending, overly opinionated and sometimes down right nasty individuals.

Hi guys, im home waves.gif 9 hours late after our flight was delayed glare.gif but we had a fantastic holiday, Miles just spent all day everyday swimming, they kid is insane laughing2.gif Greta actually slept less tthumbs.gif so we kinda got to know her a bit better Tounge1.gif although she's meaking up for it now, been asleep for about 4 hours already!

Took Miles to seaworld but dont think we say a single animal, spent all our time at the Sesame street theme park wub.gif ive never seen him so excited when he went up to hug Elmo wub.gif so darn cute when he got up pon stage he just ran to him with his arms open - Elmo is like his hero! he got a photo taken and put the photo up in his bedroom and just sits in his bed looking at the photo - its so sweet.

Ok so weight loss, i somehow managed to loose 3kg's while on holiday oomg.gif so total loss to date is 6kg's in 4 weeks - quite happy with that, to say ive been on holiday for the past 10 days!

Solids: didnt start Miles tll 6 months cos thats what was the recommended age 2.5 years ago, now im told its 4 months but seems way too little to me - however Greta is watching our food so intently and she cries when we've eaten it all huh.gif so im wondering if i should start her but it just seems way too young to me, she's only just turned 4 months... so im not sure what to do.... miles was never interested even at 6 months! Greta still sleeps through the night for 12 hours and sleeps 6 or 7 hours during the day for naps so cant be hungry but she just seems to want to eat our food.. so im not sure what im gonna do...just seems so young an 4 months and she cant even sit up yet of course so how am i meant to prop her up to feed her laughing2.gif Miles was sitting up by 5.5 months so he was fine to go in his high chair to feed him at 6 months ... oooh im not sure - maybe i just stop eating around her laughing2.gif

Im not even gonna attempt so read back, so hope everyone is well... and hope i didnt miss anything exciting!

Anyway, best get on - cases to unpack waves.gif

Morning original.gif

Rach - Sydney meet - I was going to go (just hadn't posted since the details were posted) but don't mind if it's cancelled. Owen's baptism is mid next month so might be a bit frazzled, don't know if I'll be in a position to organise the next meet. If noone else offers I'll consider it...well done on the weight loss - again! )

Mandy
- that's great losing 3kg while on holiday! My weigh in day is tomorrow but I'm not expecting great losses like you and Rach. Mine is very slow going.

Kylie - I'd be upset too. Seems like there is so little support for new mothers and such long waiting lists. What is going on? You should contact your local member about it - it's not good enough. Not that it will help you but maybe someone else down the track. Ten again, you have enough on your plate right now!

Hi Molly, welcome to the group original.gif

Not much to say today. I guess that's a good thing. I'm looking forward to Saturday as my sister is having an 80's dress up party for her 30th. Should be a scream.

I have a nappy to change....
*Olraha*
Morning

Where have the day's gone? I thought I would have more time on my hands since the girls went back to school, but I hardly have any. I am sooo over the rain we have had in sydney, I would like some sun now.

Rach - I was planning on going on friday too. But if you want it to be cancelled, that's fine by me. I would love to organise the next one, but I have no idea where anything is central except where we meet up.

Kylie - OMG that would make me very frustrated and upset too. I would join you in the crying department too.

Mandy - welcome back home. I hope miss greta wakes up a little more for you now that you are home or maybe she was missing home and will go back to her old ways. LOL. Sounds like you had a great time away.

Solids - Hannah isn't quiet ready yet, but I will be starting her between the 4-6 months, when she starts to show interest. Both the older girls were a little over 4 months, so I will wait and see with Hannah. But then again she maybe different to her sisters.

Need to get in and clean this house as two girls made a massive mess (but said they were cleaning up).

Talk to you all later...

I’m making Daal for dinner and just put it in the slow cooker. The stupid recipe calls for 4 green chillies – I only put one in thinking it won’t be too hot. Washed my hands and everything and then accidently rubbed one of the fingers near my eye. OMG it stings. Ouchies… I thought green chillies were the milder type? Gosh, I hope dinner won’t be too spicy for Liam….

Re: solids. I don’t buy into the whole allergy thing – to me there isn’t enough studies either way to show whether feeding something to a baby earlier or later can cause allergies. After all, most of us, myself included (I was given potato by my grandmother at 6 weeks old when she looked after me) were fed earlier on by our parents and most of us are fine. Having said that, I’d avoid giving highly allergenic foods such as strawberries, tomato, custard/egg and shellfish first up. I think it comes down to babys need for solids (ie big or small baby), mums milk supply (if BF) and whether their tongue thrust reflex has disappeared (as in they will eat and swallow the food), And whether their little gut will handle it (ie no constipation, excessive gas, mucusy poos etc). I don’t think there is hard and fast rule – 4 to 6 months is just a guideline after all. Although 2 months old seems very young to me – the baby can’t even hold it’s head up at that stage… I think once you can sit them down in the high chair and they start grabbing for things and showing interest in food is a good time to offer some first tastes (not necessarily 3 meals a day though Tounge1.gif). Also, if they start waking up all of a sudden after they had been sleeping through for a while or they start feeding every 1-1.5 hours for longer than 5 days (ie not a growth spurt), I think most mummies know when their babies are ready and that it’s not a competition about whos child starts first. Each child is different.

Re: weightloss. I so envy you girls for your motivation to do exercise and diet. I can’t be bothered getting my fat bum into gear to do any. So well done on all of you! Having said that, avoidance of junk food and running after a very active 2 year old boy means I only have 2 more kg to lose before I’m back to pre-preg weight! Woohoo! I’d like to lose another 3-5 kg above that but I can’t see it happening as I have been on that weight for most of my adult life (bar a few weeks around my wedding when I dropped 3kg in about a month somehow – and put it all back on my honeymoon Tounge1.gif)

Marina: i couldnt have put it better myself about the starting solids topic, totally agree with what you said.

Sydney meet up: has it been cancelled ??

Awww Greta is so cute, she's sat in her little rocker, she just picked up the little birdie that hangs from it and is trying her best to get it to reach her mouth wub.gif

Hi ladies,

Carseats Both mine stayed rear facing until 12mths old. I dont care how much they protested and screamed, I am only concerned about their safety and the longer they are RF the better. I ahve a capsule this time that is only up to 9kgs, but once he hits that milestone I will put my other rear facing seat in that is up to 12kgs.

Solids I think everyone has a different way of looking at things. IMO just because on the outside they look like they can handle food, you have no idea what is going on inside their little tummies. Kylie there is no way I would give a 12wk old baby solids, I would wait until at least another month. But like I said thats just me.

Just about every choice for your children can cause a debate as we are all different, its like circumsion.

Mandy So glad you had a great holiday. I am in the process of booking a holiday to Fiji for September.

Rach I think we are alot alike LOL Go you on the weightloss, I have really struggled to get my head around it, I woke up thinkking I would really try today so will see how it goes.

Ok gotta run, the girls have finished their craft so better go and clean up before Levi wakes up!

Morning....

Gees some of these topics have started some of us to arck up! laughing2.gif

Everyone has "there" way of doing things and as my health nurse told me the other day if the baby has the reflex to actually move the top lip and take the food off the spoon and swallow without spitting it out then they are ready to eat. As for the allergy side of things, well every child is differant and Im glad I dont need to worry about those things as no one in my family or DP is allergic to any food original.gif I will be slowly introducing Lucas to solids when he appears ready to me not what the damn "experts" say im his mother I know him through and through, i know him the best! tthumbs.gif

as for car seats.... as I said I will be waiting until at least 6 months to turn him around I was just asking what you all thought because my seat does say FF from 8kgs and I did think it was to young, but then again not alot of 3.5month old are already 8kgs. I just hate the RF seat as its a pain to get him in and out of but safety is much more important than conveniance!

Just popping in quickly waves.gif

Just an idea for the Sydney girls....why don't we meet at the same place for the next meet and then organise a day and date for the next months so we all know whats going on and it's not on one person to organise it? Then we can have a brainstorm on other places to go? Then we can just remind eachother as it gets closer to the next meet? Just an idea grin.gif

I'm off again hopefully I can bbl for some persies!!!

Mwah! hheart.gif

Finally some good news...I mentioned to my boss from a previous job that I was looking for something part time...he called today to say he's got 2 roles coming up in the next few months and basically I can take my pick biggrin.gif. They're both full time roles though but he said he's happy for me to do 3 days in the office and 2 from home and on the days I'm at home all I need to do is check my emails every now and then and keep my mobile on for any calls ddance.gif, very excited...not to mention full time pay for 3 days in the office cool.gif. He'll forward the position descriptions through in a few weeks and we'll take it from there. Will be SO good to not have to worry about looking for a job!

Naomi I thought the same thing but this kid was huge for 12 weeks...looks like a 5 month old. Mum couldn't keep up with BFing so put her on formula and she was drinking an extra 3-4 bottles a day. The mum took her to the gp then got a referral for a paed who said to start solids straight away. Every baby is different...I wouldn't have fed E solids at 12 weeks because I knew he wasn't ready for them, but if he looked like this kid then I would have thought twice! laugh.gif

Solids - I know I've had my say but I just wanted to distinguish the difference between BF and FF babies when it comes to solids as it appears those with the strongest opinions are BFing and if I were lucky enough to be in your position I wouldn't want to be starting solids early either. But I don't think the FF's should be shot down in flames for wanting to start earlier (as it appears majority of those wanting to start or already starting solids early are on formula). As I've said before, if you think your baby needs it and is ready for it then do what you like, it's no one elses business if you've done the research and are comfortable with your choice.

BF babies get all the nutrition they need for the first 6 months from BM alone, plus they have the added benefit of experiencing new tastes via whatever mum eats. Breast is best and all that jazz. FF babies are already consuming something that is nutritionally inferior, is not a natural product, and tastes the same (ie. vomit inducingly foul) all day every day. FF babies may not get as much iron from their formula therefore use their reserves from birth sooner and are more likely to become anaemic than BF babies. BF babies on solids who have less feeds miss out on the maximum amount of the wonderful immunity protection offered by BM...FF babies aren't missing out because they don't get any to begin with. From what I've read across various websites, it is generally accepted that FF babies tend to need solids earlier than BF babies.

Personally, I will be doing BLW and will wait until E makes his own attempts to eat my food. He's done this twice now and has received a mushy pea with the skin off and a tip of a pinky finger dipped in mashed potato for his efforts laughing2.gif and the look on his face when a flavour other than formula hit his tongue was priceless! I will be introducing solids as 'tastes' rather than as meals. It's not all or nothing, it's tiny tastes.

I found some good suggestions on ways to feed the curiosity of a baby who is interested in what mum and dad are eating and encourage use of feeding skills without actually giving food but can't remember the link atm will try and find it - can freeze BM or formula in the shape of a popsicle and let them hold and eat that themselves...freeze the milk until it is slushy and feed them with a spoon on a hot day, etc. To help ease E's colic when it was at its worst I'd give him his feeds from a little cup rather than the bottle to avoid any gas bubbles he didn't need. All encourage the eating skills - holding, eating from a spoon, using a cup, without having to give solid food and may be enough to interest your bub for a little while longer before giving solid food. If I ate the same thing the same way every day I'd be bored too.

Ok I'm shutting up now. tongue.gif

Seems Greta is back to her old sleeping habits! only been awake about 2 hours today so far.. oh well, i can at least get stuff done, it was just nice when we were on holidays that she seemed to be awake more, or have shorter naps anyway - my girl just likes to sleep a lot i guess ssleep.gif

So whats considered starting solids early?? Cos 4 months seems early to me but isnt the recomended age 4-6 months so i gues as Greta is over 4 months thats not considered early? to me its early though, she seems too little still but i dont want to stop her if she is ready IYKWIM, hard to know cos Miles never seemed ready laughing2.gif now we are back off our holidays and she is sleeping all the time again she might not be as interested - hmm see how we go, im certaily in no rush.

Car seats: hmm cant remember how old Miles was, 9 or 10 months when we turned it i think. Miles was and is terrible in the car, hates it with a passion, screamed the instant he went in it as a baby and would not sleep.. someone told me to turn the seat when he was about 4 months ohmy.gif but another lovely lady in my DIG sent me a list of reasons and reasearch why its advised not to turn it like a child cant support their own head fully till they are 4 yrs of age, so if you break sharply thats like 4 times their body weight crashing down on them! anyway i decided not to turn it... we kept it rear facing as long as possible and just made sure we didnt drive far as he just screamed the whole time in the car, if we did drive a little further than normal then id sit in the back with him so he could see me... Im not gonna turn Greta's till she is almost 1 i think, she is so laid back and relaxed, never screms in the car.. or at home for that matter wub.gif so ill keep her rear facing as long as possible.

i am having such a great day today. i went to mothers group this morning, we met at a cafe nearby cos it looks rainy (though didnt actually end up raining) and emily was a little angel, she had a nice little sleep, didnt whinge too much and just had a great time with the other mums. then i get home and have an email from one of my really good friends that lives in port macquarie. so just feeling really positive and happy, nice feeling this way for a change (usually just average - not particularly happy or unhappy) then i attempted to do some cleaning, had to try and get mildew off our bathroom ceiling (couldnt get it all - any tips for getting it off??) so may have to paint over it, and cleaned the mildew off the wall and windowsill in our bedroom.

kylie good to hear you had a bit less of a stressful weekend with DH looking after evan. hope you are going ok today wink.gif

could you maybe try calling the clinic back and hope you get a different person on the phone? someone a bit more sympathetic?

what FANTASTIC news about your job!!!

foxy jo hope you are doing ok. it must be really hard for you that someone is treating you like crap and there is no reason. hope you are doing better today.

jess your poor DH. men are so careless when it comes to wearing suncream. i am cringing just thinking about how bad it must be.

leish ooh, thats exciting that your going out, im sure you will look really hot!! its so nice to have an occasion to dress up and do hair and makeup properly isnt it?

rach sorry, i meant to let you know i am fine for catchup as well. i dont mind too much if it is cancelled though, weather says its supposed to be storming on friday.

GREAT work on the weight loss!!

molly welcome to our little group! which state do you live in?

marina i am with you in the "im too lazy to lose weight" club. i have tried to keep less junk food in the house, but cannot be bothered exercising at all. maybe when it gets a bit cooler i will find some energy to go walking.

naomi i would LOVE to go to fiji! i havent been on a holiday for 4 years. i think september would be the perfect time to go too.

AFM yeah, so just seem to be really happy today. am meeting SIL on thurs for a walk along esplanade along the beach on thurs. i have a feeling she may be preggers again already, she and BIL were very happy at bowling last night, so hopefully this one doesnt end like the last 2.

off to get some meat out for dinner and look at more houses online. hopefully there are some more new ones up today.

Hi Ladies,

Well I am offically 30 years old today!! Hahaha - God how time flys!!!

Having a good day so far - DH has taken the day off work to spend with me!! hheart.gif

It's also been nice or him to see how J is throughout the day (even though J has decided to sleep today!! lol).

It appears that my pig out fest on Saturday night (early birthday dinner ) didn't hurt WW - I lost 1.1kg today!! woo hoo!!!

Mandy - Welcome back - well done on the weightloss & glad you enjoyed your holiday!

Kylie - That's excellent news about your job - how fantastic for you!! That picture of E on your signature is absoloutly beautiful!! Please pm me to remind me to give you the name of the paed. I think I still have baby brain or maybe I'm just getting old LOL!!!

As for solids, J is now over 4 months and we were receommended by the family doc & paed that he begin solids from 4 months (well like Mandy said - they can start from four months - so it's not really early). Personally, it's up to the individual when they choose to give their baby solids - none of my business.

Hope everyone is well - have a lovely day all!!!

Argh I am really busy today but I had to pop back in here to say a big SORRY.

I honestly didn't mean to upset anyone with my comments about solids...

SYDNEY MEET - should we just schedule the Friday meet back on again? and then from then on it would be great if we can all organise the meets as I'm feeling a bit busy this term LOL! Should we meet at IKEA restaurant for a change? Is that central enough for everyone?

Rach
raky
Lets all just get over the solids thing cos from reading some of your responses, I now feel like my doc has no idea what she's talking about and feel like a crap mother for starting my son on solids early.. and just to also state.. when oliver has solids, it's not a replacement for a bottle, he gets prob 3 teaspoons before his last bottle before bed.

have a great day...
koiles
Rach lol I don't think you upset anyone lovely, I think it just sparked a discussion! Debate is healthy!

Sharna HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Wow, 30 how old Tounge1.gif. No it was definitely my baby brain, you did say to PM you for the number and I said I would then forgot ddoh.gif. Sounds like you've had a fantastic day with DH home, it's so nice every now and then isn't it! Aww thanks, it's one of my favourite photos...one of those ones that looks 10 times better in black and white than colour.

Jess 869 I'm not going to bother calling back...the lady actually was really nice but there was nothing they could do to move me forward. I've given in and got E into the GP who put us on the Zantac on Wednesday and I'm going to beg for the Losec prescription...at least then by the time he gets checked out by the paed we'll know whether the Losec is making a difference or not. So glad to hear you've had such a positive day original.gif.

Mandy they keep changing their minds between starting at 4 or 6 months - you said Greta didn't seem ready so I'd just go with your gut and just wait til she does, no rush. Your holiday sounds like it was so fantastic...I want a holiday again rolleyes.gif.

Kylie raky bbighug.gif none of us are qualified medical professionals lovely, and even the professionals can't agree, so don't feel bad. Your gut instinct will be better than what anyone else tells you.

AFM I made a curry from scratch today for dinner...it smells soooo good in the slow cooker, the whole house smells nice now...DH better not be working back late or he isn't going to get any at all wwhistle.gif. Ok I know I'm sad but I've been writing down ideas for topics for my blog all day today and I really want E to go to bed tonight so I can start writing rolleyes.gif.

Hi ladies

wow, healthy debate, love it!

Solids: I started Bella pretty much smack on 6 months, and that was just giving her a teething rusk to such/nibble/bite on then farex and pureed fruit, I don't think she had more than a few mouthfuls until she was 7 months or so. Then oh my, she ate everything in sight and still does original.gif Can't keep fruit away from the girl.. As for Audrey, she is showing no interest in food so I'm not going to offer any, when she's ready she'll be ready and I'll do the same as I did with Bella.

Kylie (raky): oh hon, your doc (as you said) is a pead and great doctor, trust in them as you should, you are in now way a crap mum for introducing solids 'early' to Ollie. He sounds like he loves it as you said it's complimenting his bottle not replacing it so he's still at the tasting stage. x

Kylie (koiles): woohoo on the job offer, what a relief that must be for you and to be able to work from home too! What a p*sser about the waiting the list though, hopefully there is a cancellation or you can get the losec and that may see an improvement before needing sleep school. Good luck!
That curry sounds so yummy!

Rach: I think ikea restaurant is a great idea, indoors (and in ikea) plus cheap and kid friendly. What time? I will be there with my girls.
Congrats on the weight loss!

Mandy: welcome back, that delay at the airport was shocking! Nice to see Greta back to her sleeping ways, I don't know what I would do with the time on my hands with a baby sleeping that much original.gif lucky you!

Car seats: I kept Bella RF until she was about 8-9 months, mostly changed her because she was a big bub and started hating the car, she had great neck control. I must say the first time I changed it around, I changed it back the next day after she fell asleep and I saw her slouching... I will be leaving Audrey RF for as long as I can, it's so much safer and those vids on youtube scare the crap out of me!

Sharna: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! yay to DH staying home to spoil you original.gif

Jess: glad you are having such a lovely day today, I have no idea about the mildew!

Jess (miinii): ooowww to your DH, sunburn is so painful, I can almost feel it from here the poor guy. Glay Rylie is loving kinder.

Jo (foxy): hope you are ok hon, some people can be so mean, don't let them get to you hon. x

Leish: enjoy your night out, how exciting and yay to getting a new outfit for the occasion.

Molly: welcome, please give me your details for the list original.gif

Naomi: Fiji, how nice, I would also love to go but alas after just moving back from NZ we are having no holidays for a while...

Marina: I'm too lazy too! I'm blessed with being slim but if it wasn't for that I'd be a mountain.

That's all I can see on the page, sorry to anyone I missed original.gif

AFM: Bella is a sooky la la always on the day after her dad goes back to NZ, she's like to glue to me and although I love her, I would also love to pee/shower/eat/dress/etc by myself once in a while!
Audrey is being a good girl and napping like she should today, is anyone elses bubs still having arsenic hour? Audrey refuses to nap from around 8pm till 11pm which means I don't get to watch any TV, relax, have 'me' time before bed.. just wondering if I'm alone.
I miss DH terribly, it's really starting to drain on me him being away during the week every week, he flies home Fri nights but leaves Sun arvo.. it's just not enough time and I'm struggling a bit on my own with the girls.. I didn't even shower till 3pm today sad.gif
oh well... what can you do hey!

I can hear little miss, so here is the list, let me know any changes xx

Ello Ello!

Picked up a bargain shoe shopping got a pair of heels or I guess you'd say they were wedges for $25 reduced from $99 woop pretty happy with that, they are black and really high oomg.gif I hope I can walk in them specially after a few drinkies laughing2.gif Im thinking of going and buying another pair of shoes they have 75% atm. Now just to go outfit shopping Im hoping I can find a nice dress to fit my body shape if not then a new top to go with my skinny jeans.

Kylie - Thats awesome about your new job so great! and mmmmm send some curry my way waves.gif I dont get to cook it here as neither Chris or Jake like it sad.gif

Jess - Glad your having a good day babe original.gif

Mandy - YAY your back!! and Greta is back to her sleepy way how cute wub.gif she must love her bed so much!

Sharna - Happy 30th Birthday lovely I hope your getting spoilt!

thats it from me today ladies original.gif I have some cleaning to do before DP gets home at 6am tomorrow, soooo excited then its school time for Jake. Today he was complaining of a sore throat and last night said he has a sore tummy. I think the sore tummy is because he was hungry and the sore throat maybe from the aircon so I hope his not coming down with something but its so hard with kids you dunno how much truth is to what they tell you some times they can exaggerate things. roll2.gif oomg.gif The funniest thing happened today we went to the pond to feed the ducks Jake was so excited so we fed them a little bit of bread and they all went bloody crazy and started following and getting really close to Jake and he said....ok Im finished! hahahaha he freaked out all these birds following him and the ducks weren't just the lil brown ones they were BIG dukes hahahaha was hilarious I litterally LOST it laughing and had tears in my eyes hahahahaha funny stuff!

Just replying re: Sydney meet.

I'll come along with Owen and Rose (hope she is settled enough to sit for a bit so I can chat!). Will be there as close to 10am as I can - I'll leave as soon as I put DD1 on the school bus.

Hiya girls,

Nothing wrong with a healthy debate!!

Raky I promise Im not picking on you LOL. But you should be giving Oliver his solids AFTER his bottle not before!!

Kylie Thats fantastic news about the job, and I had a giggle when you said I should see that big baby ohmy.gif biggrin.gif Love the new sig!

Mandy Love your new sig too

Sharna Happy Birthday xxx

Have to run, Levi is still awake so better get him to bed!!!

Bluey04
just quickly - Lisa - yes Alex still ahs the arsenic hour (or two) - usually from about 5 pm till he's in bed at 8pm - he's unsettled, grumpy, irritable, crying and carrying on...

Sharna - happy 30th birthday!!! Hope you had a great day.

Mandy - welcome back original.gif

Jess869 - i used spray on shower cleaner for cleaning mildew off our ceilings. Spray on and wipe off pretty much straight away... Read somewhere you can also use sugar soap although this didn't work for me.

and kylie - demand Losec. seriosuly, it's meant to be heaps better than Zantac for severe reflux cases.
btw, congrats on the job! original.gif

i'm off to bed. Alex had a horrible day today - he was feeding constantly (every 1.5 hours) and is really irritable. Could eba growth spurt (althoguh he ahd one not even 2 weeks ago). There is a lot of drool and a lot of fingers/hands in his mouth so i'm wondering if he has started teething. can't see anything but the bottom gums feel a bit rougher. I ended up giving him some panadol earlier and that finally settled him but now i am exhausted.

Morning guys waves.gif

Miles just watching rory, i LOVE that show, its about the only one i can stand that he likes! Probably cos Peter Kay does the voice for the mechanic biggrin.gif

Shock horror last night, Greta woke up at 1am oomg.gif DH and i woke up and lay there looking at each other like WHAT THE....! laughing2.gif she's not woken at night since she was about 7 weeks old...so i went in to investigate and she had her eyes closed but was fidgeting so i stuck her dummy back in and she went back to sleep straight away ... no idea what that was all about blink.gif

Naomi: i love my siggie too, the black and pink is so pretty, i just found a new sig maker, my old one retired sad.gif but love my new sig maker she's great!

Kylie (Raky): i agree with Naomi, if you are feeding solids is should be after a feed as at this stage its just to introduce tastes not to actually feed - the source of feeding is still the milk... you dont want to fill him up before he has his bottle of milk cos then he wont get his main source of food and nutrients etc... not sure if its me but im sure the health nurse told us when we introduce solids it should be at brekkie time.. anyway good luck with it biggrin.gif

Leish: ooh only an hour or so till your DH is home ddance.gif have a wonderfull day with him tthumbs.gif

Lisa: do you know Greta never had the witching hour, Miles used to have it from 5pm and it was like a switch went on and at 6pm it would just stop it was the weirdest thing but Greta never has. I do remember going to some baby Dr talk thingy and he reckons that something happens in the womb at 5pm that cant be replicated once they're born so they get used to that and when it doesnt happen they go all crazy for an hour shrug.gif it was certianly true for Miles but not for G so who knows... Oh and i feel so sorry for you with your DH being away all week, i would really struggle with it ..but i dont really have any family or anything over here so im just a wuss i guess! Could you not move back over to NZ with him? Or are you happier in Sydney.. well i hope he gets a job over her soon.

Marina: oh i hope Alex feels better soon... Greta went through a day of feeding every 2 hours - she also chews her fingers constantly and drools- but i know she is teething.

Sydney meet: Im so sorry i cant make it cry1.gif DH has arrange for our builder, carpenter, tiler, plumber, painter etc to be at our new house on Friday morning to discuss the work we want done before we move in and then we have to go to the bathroom showroom to pick what we want with them as the plumbers re getting them at cost price for us - they're friends of DH... so sorry i cant make it. I then have a 2 hour pamnper session at the beauty salon place to use up a gift card i got for Christmas and then im going out for dinner with the girls eexcite.gif but i hardly ever have anything on so i will make it to the next one for sure - unless its on the day we are moving house that is !

Ok best get on, got the fist of the removal companies coming round to quote in half an hour and im still in my PJ's with my hair all greasy! waves.gif

Hi Girls,

I have been following along :-) Just not posting. I'm a slacka!!

There def has been some healthy discussions going on but I just try to remember that with raising children everyone is SO SO different and that applies to Mummies and babies but that's what makes us who we are etc :-)

I'll prob start introducing some farex to miss Annabelle when she is 5.5months she has shown no interest so far. where as Thomas started at 4 months on the advice of the pead & child health nurses.

Kylie - Congrats on the job that's fantastic news :-) fingers crossed the day clinic can get Evan in very soon and the poor little man can get his tummy problems sorted :-( You are doing an amazing job and u must be so so patient.

Mandy - Sounds like you had a great holiday no the fun starts with packing :-)

QUESTION - Miss Annabelle isn't doing her 10 hr stretches overnight anymore..only 7-8hrs which still isn't too bad but once she feeds after the 7-8hrs which is usually around 3ish she is awake wanting boobie again at 5:30ish which she guzzels but then she only settles back down for short periods of time because she has SO much wind. She always burps afters feeds no problems but these are Fluffs that are bothering her because most of the time she still has her eyes closed and keeps the closed the entire feed but she is squirming and groaning and crying and then does lots of fluffs.....but if i don't feed her she just keeps crying.........any suggestions please???

AFM -
Well our house is SOLD and we did put an offer in on another house but had to pull out due to some bad news with the building report...but we have now found another house and building is getting done today. We move out in 3.5weeks so I hve started to pack things we don't use regualrly and just liek Mandy have started to get the removal quotes. It's all fun fun fun :-)

I got food poisoning on Saturday and then Sunday we had Miss Annabelle at the hospital as she wasn't keeping anything down and only did 1 wet nappy in 10 hours poor little bubba. But she is all good now and feeing well etc. Mr T is going great he had a sleepover at his Nannies on the weekend and is just plodding along :-) I'm starting to try to explain to him that we are moving house and he just keeps saying yeah yeah yeah. I went to the toys r us baby sale and brought the swing set and enclosed tramp they were drastically reduced i think we saved $400 in total. Thomas is going to LOVE them :-) as at our current house he can't have either of those things in the backyard.

Hope everyone is well xoxoxoxoxoxox

hi Girls!

Got back from holidays on Sunday arvo (pics on FB) I have missed a whole thread, but had a quick read of this one.

Kylie- congrats on your job!

Kylie (raky)- I agree with PP, not all Drs can agree when it comes to solids. I would recommend swapping his bottle and solids though original.gif. We all parent differently and one way is right nor wrong. I do feel 2 mths is really early, but that's just how I feel and don't expect anyone to agree with me original.gif I don' tt think anyone here was picking on early solids, just expressing their opinions and how they feel on the subject.

umm.. can't remember much else sorry, and joel is wanting a cuddle by the sounds of it. lol. BBL original.gif

harpsichord
Mandy - bummer about Friday, I was looking forward to catching up with you. You are looking GREAT in your holiday photos BTW.

Jo - see you Friday original.gif and thanks for ding next month's meet-up!

Kylie (koiles) - It really does suck that you can't get any help faster, how has he been the last few days? Is your mum calling you loads? original.gif Big congrats on the job!!!!! WHat a perfect set-up!

Naomi - With the weightloss, don't don't forget I've probably got way more to lose than you! I've only lost 6 kilos and I've still got to get another 21 kilos off! It's sheer vanity that's driving me ATM, it will be interesting to see if I maintain this momentum.....fingers crossed!

Leish - glad ro read on FB that you've got your DH back!

Jess - see you Friday!

Sharna - congrats on the weightloss!! original.gif

Lisa - see on Friday.....10am ok for you? We don't have arsenic hour although DS is pretty much a daytime catnapper.....so that's kinda tough. Sorry to read that you're struggling, although I can understand why. Do you have anyone close by that can help you out now and then while he's away?

Kristy - see you Friday

Marina - Alex sounds like my DS ATM. I had a dreadful week with him last week doing exactly what you described. hugs to you....

Kat - sounds like action stations at your house! Congrats on the house sale!

OK....gotta go!!!

Has anyone heard of Bonjela being banned in the UK because it's been linked to causing issues with brain development??? DH mentioned it last night but I haven't heard anything. It's one of my best friends at the moment huh.gif. Will have to go googling now.

I weighed E this morning his stats are now:
Weight: 3.3kg at birth, 6.3kg at 15.5 weeks
Height: 53cm at birth, 65cm at 15.5 weeks oomg.gif
Too hard to do HC!

I so thought his height would slow down and even out but it's accellerating! We've jumped from 75th to almost 90th percentile!! Weight is pretty much tracking the same as always in the 25% realm, although he's a lot closer to 50th% than he's ever been...that will should keep my MCHN happy and off my back! rolleyes.gif

Lisa E's arsenic hour is from 10am-7.30pm Tounge1.gif haha. Seriously though, yes he does tend to kick it up a whole notch and the crying usually intensifies from about 5-6pm until his bath/bottle at 7.30pm.

Leish ohhh shoes, well heels, used to be my weakness...then I got pregnant and now I'm eyeing off Comfs and Hush Puppies going 'oh they'd be great for pushing the pram with'...kill me now wacko.gif!! I have a whole washing basket overflowing with shoes I was planning on putting on ebay 6 months ago...they're just sat here because I can't be bothered taking photos...I've only worn most of them a couple of times! What size are you? Aww poor Jakey, I used to hate it when the ducks followed too, I was scared they were going to peck me with their beak!

Naomi thanks for the comment on the sig. It's the first time I've had one other than a ticker...AND I did most of it myself, just had a little bit of help from DH when I got stuck in photoshop! The monkey is the one we painted on E's bedroom wall wub.gif.

Marina E has been doing the same as Alex since he was 8 weeks old, it's driving me nuts. It's definitely his gums because as soon as Bonjela goes on he calms right down...I gave him Panadol once and never again the panadol refluxing made him scream like I've never heard before sad.gif. He's started waking between 2-4am with a painful cry and it's his gums. We had 3 teeth at the bottom come up then go back down but so far nothing's come right through...is driving me nuts actually because the hands in the mouth and painful cry are also what he does with the reflux so I don't know which is which sometimes, other than smelling his hands to see if it smells acidic or not sick.gif. Feeding every 1.5hrs oomg.gif you poor thing, I hope he snaps out of that quick smart...if he is in pain with teething though could it be a comfort thing?

Mandy lol I used to work with a guy called Rory and he had that theme song as his ringtone, made me laugh everytime I heard it. Oh I know what you mean about it throwing you totally when they've been sleeping through then wake up, this past week E has woken up with sore gums and the first time I was like 'WTF...no no no you sleep through the night!!!' lol.

Kat LOL fluffs...I guess I should start thinking about altering our language at home...I don't want E saying farts until he's older and bottom sounds nicer than bum too. CONGRATS on selling the house, how exciting. I used Infant's Friend for E with his wind issues and it worked quite well...he'd do a massive burp after it and would have a lot less 'fluffs' Tounge1.gif too, it's horrible when they can't get it out without it hurting! We also tried Gripe Water and Infacol but they had zero effect for us.

Clarinda welcome back, hope you had a great trip!

Rach he's been bearable the last few days. We're doing twice weekly trips to the chiro and once a week with Bowen therapy, plus his Zantac doses and the usual stuff like keeping him upright for 30mins after a feed blah blah...it's funny how I'm just so used to doing that now it's second nature and because I do it all the time I think it's not doing anything...MIL fed him on Sunday and put him down on the playmat 10mins after the feed and omg did he scream. I'm asking the GP to prescribe Losec tomorrow and see how we go on that.
Bluey04
We’ll another day of feeding every 1.5-2 hours max. at 3pm I had enough and after he drained both boobs and wanted more gave him another 150mL of EBM in the bottle. He guzzled the WHOLE LOT! And is now happily sleeping… I have now made a decision to try and hold out for another two weeks and then try him on solids when he hits 16 weeks. He won’t be quite 4 months then (I think it’s about a week short) but will give me a chance to see whether the constant feeding is a growth spurt or if he truly needs more food/milk. In the meantime, I have stacks of frozen EBM I can supplement with…

Kylie – yeah I think his teeth are going up and down and the sucking is a comfort thing. He sucks his dummy like there is no tomorrow which is a new one for me as Liam never took to the dummy really. Alex seems to very attached to his. But when he wants boob/feed not even that will do…
As for Bonjela – there was something about the ingredients in it that that someone mentioned to me but can’t remember what sorry. It really did nothing for Liam –I found SM33 gel much better for teething so I never really looked into it in detail. Oh and I also used Hylands tablets and amber teething necklace as well. FWIW, Liams teeth took ages to come though – they went up and down and were obviously very painful for weeks before they eventually appeared. First ones were at 6 months from memory…
Oh and they can go through growth spurts for height – he won’t necessarily stay on 90%ile…

Clarinda – welcome back

Rach – has your DS settled back to normal?

Kat – have you tried giving her some infants friend for her fluffs?
MnM
Koiles: nope not heard that bonjela has been banned in the UK, i might ask my Dad he's usually up on all the news over there... i have a tube for Greta but so far her teeth dont seem to be bothering her, she still sleeps ok, just likes to chew her fingers - Miles was never effected by teething either, he just chewed his Teddy bears hat thats the only way we knew he was theething. Im more a fan of a drop of panadol anyway if it gets really bad but so far i havent had to use it with either of mine.

Had a lovely day with the in-laws today - was meant to go out shopping with them but Greta was asleep and as usual slept through her next feed and just kept on sleeping so they got bored so took Miles out to the shops with them...then inspired by Rach i got the Playdough out this afternoon and had a play with Miles.. made a batch a good couple of months ago and its still good tthumbs.gif

Heading off to Olympic park with them tomorrow for some lunch and a play with Miles.

Rach: thanks, i still look like a beached whale on those photos but im getting there - 6kg's down, 25 to go oomg.gif

Back to the gym tonight.. looking forward to it actually.

Ok best go, Miles has yoghurt all over his face rolleyes.gif

I don't mean to offend anyone just need to get it off my chest...pushy opinionated home birth advocates (particularly ones who I'm friends with) give me the sh*tS! Yes, yes I'm very glad you had a wonderful 'birthing experience' and want everyone to experience what you did, but my son would be dead if I wasn't hooked up to those 'nasty unneccessary monitors', so no, I don't think I will be attempting one in future to avoid the 'unneccessary medical interventions'...that saved my baby's life. I'd like to add a $%^# off but that would be impolite biggrin.gif.

Ahh that feels better.

Uh-oh E just woke up in the sling and there's an awful lot of grunting going on...nappy change time!
Bluey04
lol... kylie vent away sweets.
having had one of each (c/s and a wonderful vbac) i can see where they're coming from in terms of prefering a natural experience to a c/s BUT i really do think there is a place for both. My theory is to Plan for the best (a natural birth), be prepared for the worst (a c/s under GA) and accept that medical interventions can and do save lives when needed.
just ignore their comments - they're not constructive and they don't know what your specific situation is (and often there is no point in trying to explain it as they simply won't 'get it'). sometimes it's just easier to nod your head in pretend agreement and change the topic....

MnM
Oh dear, i just cant be doing with pushy people never mind what the subject.. love a heathly discussion but keep your pushyness to yourself! Im all for what is right for each person as an individual but whats right for one is not right for another.. i personally would never want a natural birth but so many people do and love them so thats great and same as you if id had a homebirth - not that i ever would, but Miles wouldn't have made it either - he got stuck and had to be dragged out and swallowed a lot of fluid and needed help...but if id have wanted a home birth with Greta i could have cos it all went so smothly but then i never would - give me monitors and drugs any day laughing2.gif each to their own, hate pushy people rolleyes.gif My sister hates epi-durals and keeps telling me how they dont work etc... well for me it did and was fantastic .. if i had a 3rd id be having it pre booked again tthumbs.gif but my sister still tells me how crap they are ... nno2.gif

hmmm, another screaming session in the bath for Miles, the kids is so scared since DH told him about the plug monster! its been weeks now - its such a fight every nigth and he shakes he is so scared - so darn annoying of Dh rant.gif

best go to the gym waves.gif
koiles
Oh god I can't imagine what she'd be like if I had've had a caesar! It's just one particular friend who's had 3 babies via homebirth and feels it's what everyone should do. She keeps pushing her ideas onto me (via PM on FB because she knows if she posted anything publicly she'd be shot down by my other friends wink.gif) and I keep pushing back to her how truly lucky she is to have had 3 perfect deliveries but not everyone is so lucky. She just doesn't seem to GET that not every birth that ends in caesar or other complications is a direct result of the 'hospital system and impatient obs'. I've also told her that on a good day it'd take around 5mins for the nearest ambulance to reach me, then I'm around a 10min sirens-blaring drive away from hospital...E would just not have made it.

Besides all that, I had high BP during my pregnancy, I'm overweight, first baby...I doubt there'd be many midwives lining up to take me on as a homebirth client! rolleyes.gif wink.gif

I've decided to write my whole birth story out like my MCHN suggested (ages ago!) and put it on my blog. I started writing last night...it SO should still not be affecting me like it is, box of tissues needed for tonight's writing. I might just tell her to go read it when I'm done. If she still tells me home birth would have been much better for me I'll punch her in the face...and I'm not a violent person!

Hurry up and get home DH I am so STARVING I'm ready to chew my arm off...stupid detox diet...but it's working, so damn, I have to stick to it there's no reason to quit laughing2.gif.

ETA Mandy you're absolutely right...just because I had a bad experience you don't hear me going around saying homebirth should be banned it's too dangerous rolleyes.gif. It's a choice for everyone to make. For me the risk far outweighs the benefit IMO, but for others its the other way round...and I'm with you I wanted those drugs cool.gif.
harpsichord
Ok.......I must admit that I'm a homebirth advocate....LOL!
Let me clarify though....I firmly believe in a woman's right to birth her child where she chooses. It is her body and her choice. I have seen homebirth work VERY well in the NZ system and I honestly am horrified at the way the Australian Gov't thinks that they can legislate what should be a fundamental woman's right. Statistics have shown that homebirth causes no greater risk when undertaken in a country where the system supports it.

Personally now that I've had a birth with no drugs and a birth with all the drugs, I do know that I prefer to 'scream the baby out' laugh.gif rolleyes.gif and I will be trying to do that again next birth, however, I will be birthing at a birth centre next time because my logical little brain would not be able to relax enough if I were at home without all my preferred drug options closeby just in case I need them. laugh.gif

Now....having said all that, I agree wholeheartedly with what you're saying Kylie, you would have lost little Evan if you had been at home, although you do acknowledge that you probably would have been 'forced' to have a hospital birth anyway due to the health issues leading up to it.

I know a LOT of homebirthers and a lot of homebirth advocates and I am hoping that maybe just her enthusiasm for the experience she had has clouded her judgement in this case. If I were you I would be blunt with her and let her know that you find it traumatic and upsetting to have her raving on about her brilliant births. In my experience with these hippies they are usually very good at listening and she might even feel dreadful about it.....if not then delete her from FB and tell her to suck your toes... laugh.gif
blondeboys
Kylie, check these teething necklaces out for E, also there is a homeopathic teething relief by bauers which I think works really well. original.gif
koiles
Rach I totally 100% agree with you. My choice would always be to have a baby in a hospital as I feel the risk of a homebirth is something I could not deal with...ie. if something happened that could have easily have been avoided with extra monitoring I honestly could not live with myself. So for me I would always choose a hospital. But no one should tell anyone how and where they should give birth, a lot of people find home birthing the most empowering exhilarating experience of their life...all power to them! I think this friend is just a little overzealous and rather than informing people on the benefits of a homebirth she is just putting people way offside. She doesn't seem to know when to give in and move onto converting the next person! biggrin.gif

Clarinda big thanks for the link, I've been looking at those and wondering if they're any good! Have you used them before?

Kylie, yep, my older 2 boys wear their ALL the time. Cam's I got while he was teething, I did not use a drop of panadol nor bonjela, I did use a little teething releif when his big molars cam through, but nothing compared to what I gave Blake. I didn't have the necklace when Blake was teething and I used bonjel like it was going out of fashion. I know that every child teeths differently too, but for me it made a worl of difference. Blake got one, because he wanted a black one. lol. I have one on order for Joel.

I bet you are looking forward to friday leish!!

I'm not supposed to blab it everywhere but I'm dying to tell...my little sister is going to be on Farmer Wants A Wife LOL. She made it through the initial thing, then down to the final 6 girls and now she's in the final 3 and flys to Sydney tomorrow to be in the house...I've never watched the show so no idea what that means but I'm pretty excited for her. Couldn't stop laughing when she told me, but good on her, she's young and single so why not! Free trip to Sydney if nothing else! She said she had a ball when she went over in Jan for the initial bit. It's on telly in June so bugger have to wait!

Just wanted to say Raky you shouldn't feel like a bad mum and im sure your pead is just fine. I dont think anybody was wanting to make you feel thins way. I know i was only curious as to the reason you started him early which is why i asked....im certainly not judging you. I saw a pic of lil Ollie eating and he sure looked like he was enjoying it to me original.gif

Hi Ladies,

Wow lots of discussion going on biggrin.gif I like it.
Reading other Mum's experiences and opinions is s much better than books for me original.gif

I don't have advice or opinions.. but this is what I'm doing:

SOLIDS
Grace started on Farex 3 days ago.
She has about half a teaspoon each day between 11 and 12 as well as a couple of fingers of mashed pumpkin. She also has a little water after this as I figure it's best to dilute the food a little bit for her tummy to get used to it.
I started her on solids because, as Marina mentioned, she was feeding four hourly up until 2 weeks ago and since then has been feeding 2 to 3 hourly around the clock.

HOME BIRTH

I say RESPECT to the woman that can do a home birth. I had a completely natural water birth at the birth centre - there were only 3 of us in the whole birth centre (DF, Midwife and I) until Grace became the fourth! So it was the closest thing to a home birth you can get without being at home. When I woke up out of my little post-birth happy haze and gazed around I realised that I was in a bathtub in a pool of my own blood and when I stood up and all the blood was still pouring out of me I pretty much came to the conclusion that I didn't want all that in my lounge room. But I suppose it all goes a bit differently when you're at home.

Grace is taking a bottle of formula each night before bed now and she is sleeping longer at night. During the day she still feeds often but I am fine with that original.gif If she slowed down too much then I would be worried about my supply.

DF has the week off. He came to BabyRoo today and really enjoyed it.

Poor Grace had on 20 minute nap between 8am and 4pm - she was a trooper at BabyROo but by the end she'd had enough!
