I had my hair coloured yesterday. Something personal happened the my hairdresser mid way through she got a phone call. Anyway usually I book in for a colour and two weeks later a cut as I can't afford it all in one go.
Anyway yesterday she said "Be careful the ends are really delicate" anyway I got home and looked and they are so split and ratty. They weren't like that before the blonde foils went in and I have never had bloncde before so didn't realise it would split my hair so much. Anyway I am so worried as I have been growing my hair and finally have it a great length but they are going to have to cut at least 5 -8 cm off it to get rid of the split ends.
So I am wondering should I go in tomorrow and get them cut as I am worried if I leave it two weeks they might split further up the shaft and I'll need even more cut off.
TIA

Short answer - yes! If you don't have the ends trimmed where they are currently split, the splits will split higher and higher - then ends need to be made blunt again to avoid this.

The splitting will be made worse by brushing your hair whilst wet (only ever use a wide tooth comb after washing), poor shampoo and conditioners and intensive heat styling. Invest in a good spray in / leave in conditioner in the meantime and use it on the midlengths and ends (would even help to use after having the ends trimmed too).

You should go back and have the ends trimmed up and ask her to put in a deep conditioning treatment (or you could purchase one and do it yourself at home).

You really shouldn't need a lot taken off if your hair was in good condition prior to colouring, it should not have damaged it 5 - 8 cm on the ends, this would only happen in very extreme circumstances should your hair have been stripped heavily (ie jet black to very blonde).

Gently blowdry your hair smooth and have another look at it, it may only be the very tips that are making it look 'ratty'.

Good luck!
