I am looking at different brands of mineral makeup (specifically foundation/powder) as I am trying to avoid using too many chemical on eczema-prone skin.

I have heard that titanium dioxide isn't great and that a lot of people are avoiding sunscreens which contain it - but is it ok in a mineral powder form?

The product I've found which sounds great is made of:

Mica and may contain (+/-) Titanium Dioxide; Zinc Oxide; Iron Oxides; Ultramarines.

What do you think?

Has anyone had any luck with specific produts and can recommend any?

The potential problem with titanium dioxide (and zinc oxide) in sunscreens is the size of the particles. If the particles are small enough (approx. nanometers) then the sunscreen doesn't leave a white film on skin. The problem is that it isn't known whether particles this small can be absorbed into the body through the skin and whether they could be harmful. As far as I'm aware there are no concerns with larger particles, some sunscreen manufacturers have switched to micron sized particles to avoid the potential risk.

There's a guide *here* that explains the problems and lists some mineral foundations and the particle sizes.

Sorry, no recommendations as I don't use mineral foundation.

Thanks very much, Georgie. I haven't seen the document you linked before, it is an interesting read.

The only ingredient I know to stay away from is bismuth. It's in quite a few minerals and can cause a reaction.
