I have blonde foils in my hair and need to do something about the regrowth. I have been having this colour for 11 years now and unfortunately we have been unemployed for over 4 months and I can't afford to get the foils again.
I need a home colour solution. I think to add colour to dye it dark again I need to add red? Is that right? I can't do blonde at home, I don't trust myself to do a good job after the foils.
Has anyone gone from blonde to dark doing it themselves?

My natural colour is mouse brown, mediumish, but there are a lot of greys there too now sad.gif

I went from being a sunbleached blonde to a very vibrant red.blink.gif Suits my personality if anything! Although the colour can fade very fast even for permenants.
I'm similar to you my hair is naturally mousey brown ssecret.gif I don't like it at all. sick.gif
How about instead going for a caramel tone first? That way it isn't too dark and too much of a shock.

You dont necessarily need the red to add in the tone, before going darker.
The hairdresser did tell me, I would need to have it dyed red first, and then the dark color on top, but that was going to be rather costly!!
I have dyed my hair blonde for many years, and went "dark" not long ago, simply used a box of clairol (I think it is) darkest brown, and it worked out great, some slight fading, but it was only a semi-perm, when I switched to a perm once I was sure I wanted that color, Ive had dark hair since.
Goodluck.

thanks ladies. I can't go red, my skin has red tones and it will bring it out unfortunately. I was red most of my 20's and it suited me back then but not any more. The blonde does. Caramel is a good idea, maybe I should try that first and if it backfires then go dark brown? I start a new job next Tuesday and I am afraid to botch it up.

Has anyone else dyed their bleached blonde hair dark? What product have you used? I don't want to end up with purple hair original.gif

My hair sounds similar to yours (mousey blonde with a few greys). I had blonde foils for 15 years and then decided to go dark a year ago.
I had my hairdresser do a semi-permanent in it first to check I liked it and I have since had it done permanent at the salon. I now mostly do the colour at home. I use Schwarzkopf Vital Colours No.70 or No 80. It's a good colour for me and lasts a long time. I use Clariol root touch up in between.
If you can get someone to help you with putting on the colour that does make the whole process much easier. (It can be rather messy!)
Good luck

If your going from lighter to darker i recomend doing it in a few gradual steps each one taking a little darker. less likely to get a drastic change especially if you dont lke it.

I would aslo reccomend using rinses first as they wash out dye have to grow out IYKWIM?

I dont think you have to go red first but you will need to use a warmer shade DEFINATELY NOT AN ASH! an ash will tend to bring out greenish/khaki shades, I've made this mistake before on my bleached hair! I'de use a nice caramel/beige or a warm shade of light brown. Also bleached hair will grab the colour and it will come out darker so select a shade ligher than the colour you want to turn out and stick to the lowest processing time. I'de also pick a low ammonia product as its gentler on you hair if you are planning on continually dying it. I agree with darkening it gradually... all the best of luck biggrin.gif
