We live on a semi-rural block & our water is all collected and stored in a rainwater tank. Its lovely and fresh and tases great original.gif We've been in this house about 18mths, we built, so it was brand new & have had the water tested for drinkability etc....all good.

However, the last few times Ive had my colour done (Im not a natural blonde Im afraid blush.gif) my hair has done some wierd things. It 'grabs' like buggery around the hairline, and turns grey/blue-ish.....and the roots, dont seem to absorb the tint very well & apears brassy. Within a couple of washes, the grey/blue eases, but my hair is just not quite right anymore.

My hairdresser asked about our water, and recently I had noticed a lime/calcium build up when cleaning the shower, which required full-strength CLR to remove. It was back within a week ohmy.gif Im going to get a sample tested, taken from running hot/warm water (As I understand hard water is more likely to occur when water is heated) and see if this is definately whats happening.

So.....any ideas? Im going to try the Nutrogena hair-cleanser and use camping water for a week. Plus also read it might be worth trying some oils....so perhaps try treating with baby-oil once Ive got rid of the build-up. Has anyone had this problem and found a wonder cure? For my hair & prevention....is there some kind of filter that can soften the water on my shower head?

Thanks, sorry for the tricky one!

I can't help with the lime sorry but I grew up with tank water and since moving out of home (and having town water) my hair has never been the same! sad.gif It used to be so smooth and soft, never fluffy, just silky smooth. All of my friends used to comment and were jealous lol! Since town water my hair goes frizzy if left to dry by itself. It drives me insane! rolleyes.gif

Did your hair dresser have any tips/advice?

I'm not sure but have you tried a Apple Cidar Vinegar rinse?
I use it on my hair for general build up and conditioning.
About 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water and tip a bit over and give it a bit of a scrub and then keep tipping and scrubbing, I hang my head over a bown and keep using it until I am done.
I don't use conditioner anymore as I just use handmade shampoo bars and the rinse every week.
It's excellent for the scalp anyway.

A water filter for your shower might help...I have one on my shower and it definitely makes my hair softer/shinier and a much nicer blonde than a dull dark yellow it was going (from too much buildup). However I only have it in our spare bathroom as it seems to take a little longer for the water temp to change and it was annoying DP. The water pressure is approx the same, maybe a little less.
I got this one

($150)

Theres quite a few brands around, I think they are usually around $100-$150
