I am halfway through book 3 of Vampire Academy (Shadow Kiss).
I think I have found a new favourite author ... well, till I chew through everything she has written original.gif

I find it astounding how many books this lady puts out a year! and she has another 3 or 4 scheduled for release next year ... all from different series.

How would she be able to keep train of thought jumping between series?
I am in awe.

So, Anyone up to discussing her books? (I've bought everything else that she has published so far, just waiting for it to arrive) ...
ʚϊɞ Ellorilee ʚϊɞ
Sorry wish I could...then I could talk to my daughter lol....she loves that series is so impatient for the next book in the series. I am glad she is reading though so am encouraging it.

I quite liked her writing style, so I thought I would just jump in and get everything, lol. She is one of the few authors who has kept me interested - plus the dark swan series has "a seductive fairy king with a taste for bondage" ... how bad can that be? roll2.gif

I have read the VA series ( including the new one) and have read Storm born, which was also good.

PC & Kristin Cast do a series called House of night and they are also a school based type vampire book and a great read. original.gif

cathode
Kirsten ... what was Storm Born like?
is her writing style the same ? is it another anti-heroine base ?
cathode
Okay, finishe Storm Born and Thorn Queen ... really enjoyed them and glad her writing style is the same.
Am taking it that these are "adult" books as opposed to the VA "young Adult" category because of the sex wink.gif
Am halfway through Succubus blues atm. Am enjoying that also.
I really like the sassy female leads original.gif
JustBeige
I've read them and just re-read them actually. They are good holiday reading and yep cant wait till the next one comes out. Was thinking about pre-ordering it happy.gif

I was looking at some of her other titles in the back of Blood Promise and they sounded promising, so its good to know that they are. Thank you original.gif
cathode
lol, I have pre-ordered Spirit Bound and Succubus Shadows ...

Only 111 days till Spirit Bound comes out ~groan~

hi i have read VA and i am proud to say "i love it"

i can't wait for the next one to come out. i have been thinking of reading some of her other books but haven't got to it just yet. i am kind off not wanting to read another series that aren't finish yet as i am now getting to the point where i am getting confused to which is which from which series laughing2.gif

Jaime,
I know how you feel. I used to do that, but now I just re-read the series before starting the new book original.gif

I am really enjoying her other books.
A lot of sex though, lol.
cathode
Okay, all the available Richelle books (inc latest Succubus one released the other day) are done and dusted.
I really enjoy them for a nice not too involving yet still good escapism read.

Now I just have to wait till spirit bound is released ... which should be in a month! (18 May)
Millipede
I have read all the vampire academy books (might even have been this thread which put me onto them LOL). I enjoyed the first one, but found the second two a bit boring and almost gave up half way through the 3rd. The 4th took a turn I really didnt expect so I got back into the series with that one. wink.gif I am waiting patently for Spirit bound.

Just I am waiting patiently for sookie Stackhouse #10 and Maggie Stiefvaters sequel to Shiver. rolleyes.gif

No, Richelle Mead isn't gory ... Her Vampire Academy series are targeted toward "young adult", but are a very enjoyable read. Basic surmise is that there are 3 types of vampire ...Dhampir which are a half human hybrid and their main job is usually as body guards of the Moroi. The Moroi are like the 'pure' vampires, and they only feed from "feeders", can tolerate filtered light and have magic (from the elements) at their resource also. The third kind are Strigoi, which are the 'dead' vampires - they become Strigoi usually by being bitten by Strigoi and turned or by being Moroi and willing choosing to kill a victim and drain them of blood.
Her other series (Succubus and Faery) are "adult" and have some very frequent "steamy" scenes.

I get all my books from http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/ , no postage fee, and each new release is usually no more than $10-15, and it gets delivered to my door usually within 3-6 days original.gif

Yay, Spirit Bound finally arrived!

That is all...

Yes, I picked up my copy of Spirit Bound today, so you all know where I will be for a few days!

I am desperately trying to finish of the "Anita Blake" series before I get to it (I have issues with reading series ... I have to do it complete) ... am only up to book 8 with her (there are 17)...then VA again, then it will be time for Sookie Series...I may actually have stuff to read for the next few months!
(I still have the PC Cast house of night series and the Darren Shan Saga to get through) ... then more Richelle Mead will be released!

Yay 2010!

I am a Twilight series and Sookie Stackhouse series fan... I have just received the first 4 Vampire Academy books in the mail. I will be reading them after I finish Book 10 of Sookie Stackhouse. Do you think I will enjoy them if I like Twilight and Sookie?

Ohhh, thanks. I am excited now! I need something to look foward to once I finish Sookie book 10!

i am a fan of Vampire Academy Series and have just finished the 5th book and all i can say is

excellent cclap.gif

totally enjoyed it from beginning to the end (not like the last one i thought that one was boring until she found dimitri - hope i am not spoiling anything there)

i too love twilight and i think that edward is my type of man (devoted and loving all the way) but i am pretty sure that dimitri might be taking over that. i think i will definitely know when i read the last installment of this series to be release in december (way too long to wait i think). how sad am i? these men r fictional characters.

I am enjoying the house of night series, though not as good as Vampire Academy. Book 6 was just released so I read that today!

I haven't read the Darren Shan Saga though so might have to check that out!

Hmmm, more sexy bits sooner in succubus, plus there are less of them (5 books) than there are in the Anita Blake (Laurel K Hamilton) series (17 books).

I have PDF and ebook version. Had it for about 3 weeks. PM me if you want me to email. I have had the hard copy of book 10 the last 2 weeks. I got it from Amazon for $19 (which included postage).

What is the succumbus? Is that another Richelle Mead series?

Yes. She has 5 books in the Succubus series and 2 in the Dark Swan series (I think #3 is due out later this year). I really enjoyed the Dark Swan Series, probably more so than the Succubus ones.

It depends on your perspective ... both have pluses and minuses.
VA is for young adults, so could be a lot more.
Succubus is definitely for adults, but I preferred the character development in VA.
Both have interesting storyline developments.

Cathode & Panda - thanks so much but I just have to have the book rather than the pdf...call me mad! rolleyes.gif I was waiting for it to hit the shelves in k-mart or target as they have all the sookie books cheaper than the other book stores.

I got the 1st Anita Blake book last night....I just had to have something to read. I also ordered the 1st book, Dark Lover by JR Ward, in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Apparently that is rather sexy as well! wink.gif
~Panda~
Clemo - go to www.bookdepository.co.uk and check it out. The books are SO SO cheap and they have free postage to Australia. I ordered a book and got it in 8 days which I thought was great since it came from the UK. I understand about needing the hardcopy, I had the PDF before my book arrived, but still waited for the book before I read it! I heard about it after I got my Sookie book 10. I will be getting all my books from there from now on. Cheaper than Big W. Plus Big W takes way longer to get them in. They are not releasing book 10 until at least June 10th. It was released May 4th in the USA!

I have read the first two VA, have also read the first two Vamps novels and the first two Blue Bloods novels. The Vamps series is my favourite at the moment.

I would love to order my books from the net but my DH is still stuck in the dark ages and is very wary of putting our cc details on the net. Mind you, not when it comes to booking airfairs! I'll have to try to convince him...... rolleyes.gif

I found the books pretty good, the author offers some different ideas to the normal vampire theme such as the vampires only living a certain time before they 'die' and are then reborn from a drop of their DNA into another generation. She also uses 'diary entries' from the Mayflower as part of the story.

Quick read (a day or too) as well.
~Panda~
Clemo, Book Depository is very safe. They use all the right software so people can't get your details. Good luck with talking your DH into it!

I was recommended the VA series by a friend at DD's school and started book 1 yesterday. I am really enjoying it. I don't think it will take me too long to read the series though. Are the other books just as easy to read?? What about the other series that she has written?

Since the Twilight series, I have read the Mortal Instruments series (Cassandra Clare) and The Vampire Diaries. The Mortal Instruments are great - but book 4 doesn't come out until August and I needed something now original.gif. They are another young adult series and so a fairly easy read. Like Twilight, it is being made into a movie series. I love that the twists make you want to read the next book and you can just picture the main characters. I don't know who they are going to get for the leads in the movie, but I'm sure they will find some young hot guy to play the lead character.

I didn't like the Vampire Diaries books, yet I absolutely love the TV series. Thankfully they are so different!

ETA - Clemo, if it makes your DH happier, suggest a Debit Visa/Mastercard. It's only got the money you put onto it in there. I use one for Ebay and online ordering and only put money on there if I need to buy something online. It was the only way I could get DH to agree to me buying off Ebay and other online stores original.gif

Yep, nice easy reads ... the VA series is YA, the Dark Swan and Succubus series are both Adult books with some steamy scenes original.gif

I didn't mind the first book (which was actually ?2 books) but the other books just put me right off. It took me a while to get into the series, but now absolutely love it ... just for Damon's character.

Are any of the Anita Blake books available to download digitally? I'm shouting myself an e-reader at tax time and don't want to waste money on paper books atm. If anyone has them digitally are they willing to share?
