Hey Ladies!

Im another Newbie moving up to Darwin original.gif

Fh is actually living up there at the moment and im down in Melb!
He is in the Navy!

Im a bit nervous about moving up! Im leaving all my friends and family back here and iv never lived any hwhere else!!!
So i thought id join and get chatting with you girls so hopefully it will make my transition a bit easier original.gif

And hopefully some of you are still up there when I move up original.gif

Iv got a few questions if you girls dont mind answering??

First one is, how easy is it to get work up there??
Im a hairdresser and also have worked behind bars at the pubs/nightclubs... When i was up there in July i had a look on the net but really couldnt find much... And im a bit scared i wont find a job!!
Where is the best place to look? newspapers or some website??

Also did you find it hard making friends? or did you already know a few people from being posted around?
I know the boys of Nath's boat and some of there partners but thats about it...
And to be honest i dont wanna be hanging out with the boys every weekend!
And im a bit scared about when Nath has to go to sea and im stuck at home for 10 days not knowing anyone.

Oh and i have to ask, is there any other shopping centers besides the city??
Or am i going to have to make best friends with Ebay and online shopping?

Anyways i better run cos it's getting late!
I hope to hear from you soon original.gif

Oh and ill tell you guy a bit about myself when i come back on some time tomorrow

Hi Gem and welcome to this little part of EB!

I can imagine it would have been a little harder to find work in July as that is our peak season and there are always a lot of backpackers, tourists etc that seem to fill gaps in employment. I am an ex hairdresser too and just doo a bit from home now, I have a couple of friends that I do regularly and then there is always the family!

When we moved here just almost 4 years ago, I didnt know anyone but now I have a great circle of friends that I see all the time! I fgound that people here were a lot friendlier and also I met a few here as well as I had been a memember here since 200.

As far as shopping, there is Cas and that is a massive centre but I dont go there too much, Palmerston has a target and that is about it. There are no majors like DJ's, Myer, Ikea, Howards storage etc just your Coles, Woolies, Big W, Kmart and Target.

Anymore questions and just fire away!

Welcome biggrin.gif

There is plenty of work around - I'm not sure about hairdressing specifically but there is always admin, bar, retail tradie, labourer, managment ect work around. I dont think you'll find it hard to get a job here. I'd email or drop off hard copy resumes to all the salons, (if that doesnt work then go to the paper - Sat always has the most job adverts.

We are a friendly bunch original.gif I think - I am a local though.

Shopping - Mel covered it mostly.

If you are going to work and will need daycare I'd ring around asap - the good ones are very hard to get into.

Mel if you hd from home book us in!!
