Help.. my 9 week old doesn't sleep during the day! She is cranky during the day, and if I finally get her to close her eyes she opens them wide awake again in 10 minutes all happy.. an hour later this happens again.

By 5pm she cracks it and I need to spend an hour settling her for the night. Then she will sleep until 6am, only waking again for feeds.

Does anyone have any advice?

Hmmmm mine can be a bit of a bugger during day sleeps as well. Does she sleep on you? Is that how she can fall asleep? Sometimes if Ryan (8 weeks) will not sleep in his cot, I just deal with it and let him sleep on me because I'd rather him get some sleep than none at all.

Does she have a nice full belly before putting her down? Have you tried wrapping her or using a dummy?

At the moment, Ryan is in his cot whinging a bit, but he is SO tired. If I go to get him, he will fall asleep in my arms, so I will put him back down and he will whinge again. Sometimes it is hit and miss whether he wants to sleep or not.

I guess you just have to persist with settling, wrapping, dummy...try anything and everything and eventually you will find something that works.

Good luck, but remember you are not alone original.gif

do you do feed / play / sleep? Does she give you clear tired signs?

I'm just wondering if your baby is tired enough when you put her down or if you're trying to get her to sleep too early? It's hard to tell when they are really little as I found the amount of time DD could stay awake for was different every time and I turned out to be rubbish at spotting her tired signs.

Another thing could maybe be that your wee one is overstimulated? I am no expert but a midwife told me that when they are really little that the 'play' part should actually just be some quiet time and not too stimulating. You could maybe try taking her somwehere quieter, like her bedroom, when you first spot tired signs and then have some quiet wind down time.
