I am going to begin weaning my 3 month old and was wondering if anyone has used Nan Pro Gold and the difference between it and Nan HA Gold.

The Chemist recommend the Pro Gold and the MCHN recommended the HA Gold.

I am terrified of causing DS constipation and wind issues but realise that all babies are different and that it will most likely be a trial and error.

Hi there!!

Im NO EXPERT but i started weaning my little girl at 3 months. i started with 1 bottle before bed on S26 GOLD.
That made her SO windy and she hardly poo'ed so i changed her to SMA. This was good but after a few weeks made her even more windy and constipated.

Then i went onto a comparing website and saw that Nan Ha Gold was good for windy babies and put her on that.
So far it has been good *touch wood!!* and she seems to be getting less windy everyday...

in saying that, i have her on infacol and she can bring up burps but struggles with the farting side.

she now is on all formula except the morning feeds and any middle of the night ones.

I dont know if that helped at all but just thought i would share!!

Hope you get the answer you are looking for and your LO and you find the perfect formula!!

HI

I am having to supplement my little boy with a bottle of formula each night and was thinking of using Nan HA Gold - where can I buy it?

We are using NAN HA Gold, I started supplimenting with Heinz Nurture but my son had terrible tummy pain and would violently throw up a whole feed. The NAN is much thinner so he drinks quite a bit of it but his poos are exactly the same as his breastmilk poos and he is doing well on it so far.

Thanks everyone,

Tashimoo - I bought Nan HA Gold from the chemist although not all chemists stock it, but i think it can also be bought at the supermarkets.

Hey,

There are differences in iron, protein, fat content, etc between the Nan Pro and the Nan HA.

We have had DS on Nan HA since he was 5 weeks & have been VERY happy with it. Recently, I mistakenly bought the Nan Pro & found that it was really 'watery' when made up compared to the HA that is really milky & creamy (not the best descriptive words, but hopefully you get me!!).

I think if you compared their nutritional qualities first & then decided!!

When we first started DS on the formula, it took him a couple of weeks to get to do a poo a day (when breastfeeding, he was doing a poo every 10 days, so this was a BIG change!!). If he went 36 hours without doing a poo, I would start on the coloxyl drops (there is also a brown sugar in warm water mixture to help).

After researching this extensively before my DS was born, a pead in Sydney whom I would trust with my life said that any HA formula is designed for babies who are at risk of an autoimmune disease, like Type 1 Diabetes, asthma, or if one or both parents suffered severe allergies. The proteins in HA formula is hydrolised and easier to digest. The pead I took advice from suggested Nan HA 1 and I went with that once I had weaned DS from the breast. No issues with anything with my now 3yo DS.

I did exactly the same with my DD whom I have recently weaned.

All good here tthumbs.gif

I use NAN HA Gold and it was recommended by the Paediatrician and SCN staff. We have had no problems with it.

There's no evidence to suggest that the gold formulas are better than a standard formula and have more side effects ie constipation, reflux, wind.

They are also much more expensive.

You may be better off starting with a cheaper non gold formula and going from there. Also look at how easy it is to get the particular formula. You don't want to run out and only be able to get it from the chemist which shut 5 minutes ago. Or the chemist runs out regularly.

The HA in Nan HA gold stands for hypoallergenic and is processed so that it is easier to digest, good for bubs with stomach problems, allergies etc.. Watch out for smelly poo's though!!

The gold formulas have the probiotics added which is why they are more expensive.

I have been breastfeeding and comping with Nan HA Gold. We started with Hinze but DD had wind problems and seemed quite unsettled. MCHN recommend Nan HA because it's much easier to digest and I also have some digestive problems which may have been passed onto DD. It's been great for her and we have never looked back.

However I do recommend starting on a cheaper formula and see how baby goes. We were paying almost $27 per tin for Nan HA! But recently I found it at a chemist for $23.99! tthumbs.gif

To the PP who asked where you can get it from- all supermarkets sell it and so do most chemists.

Our local Ozepharmacy has it for $21 a tin. Much better than the $28 at the supermarket.
