Hi, I have 6 week old boy/girl fraternal twins and a 2 year old daughter. I'm sleeping the twins next to each other in the same cot with my DD in a seperate room. I was wondering how long people have kept twins sleeping together in the same cot and then the same room in seperate cots? For people with older siblings, do they end up wanting to join the twins in the same room as well?

Any info greatly appreciated....

Hi and congratulations on your twins!

I kept my girls in the same cot until about 12 weeks side by side like [ i i ], when they became too mobile and I had one constantly bumping into the other and waking her up. They are still in the same room but separate cots now, and will have to share for quite some time, until we win lotto lol.

We have two older girls, neither of which have wanted to share a room, but they were 5 and 4 when the babies arrived and had only recently moved from sharing a room into their own room.

My B/G twins shared a cot until about 5 months- first side by side like Bec described and then one at each end, with their heads in the middle. I separated them when they started to smack heads wacko.gif. They are now in separate cots in the same room (cots in an L-shape so they can 'chat' LOL).

I plan to keep them together for the near future but will probably end up with my girls sharing a room and DS on his own. My older daughter (5yo) can't wait to share with her sister. We do have a 4 bedroom house but I would like to keep a spare room for guests if possible.

my boys stayed in the same cot until about 3 1/2 months when they started wiggling around and bumping into each other.
Now they are in seperate cots in the same room but we are actually thinking of splitting them into seperate rooms...
what do others think about this??

I separated mine into their own cots at about 8 weeks and into their own rooms at about 3 months. They were waking each other up constantly, and I had two grumpy babies on my hands. The move meant everyone got more sleep and everyone was happier.

Mine are sensitive to noise and still occasionally wake each other up from the room next door!

I had mine in separate bassinets, and then cots but same room until they were 6 months. During this sixth month, Alana started spending more time in the port-a-cot in my loungeroom, because we had to keep removing her from the bedroom for disturbing Caitlin. So by 7 months, they both had their own room. laughing2.gif

It has been this way ever since. If they ever want to share a room later on, I would happily consider this, but for now, we all get a better nights sleep with them separated.

My b/g twins shared a cot until 6 months, firstly side by side down one end, then side by side across the cot, then end to end.

They both share a room now and I have had to push the cots together so they can hold hands and 'talk' wub.gif
