Anyone read it? What did you think?

I am almost to the end of it and have found it fantastic! It's frightening, sad, creepy, gripping. I was up until midnight reading last night then had to stop because I was getting too creeped out (I was at home on my own with the kids - DH at work).

It's quite different from her other books. A great read!

allybally - I just finished it the other night too. Stayed up well past midnight as well lol.

I really liked it too but it was quite dark wasn't it. I guess there is only so much light-heartedness you can write into a book with such a meanacing undertone. I had to put the book down at one stage when a Lola bit finished (funny and fluffy) and went straight into Marnie at her worst and darkest. Sorry if I'm being a bit cryptic but I don't want to spoil it for anyone ph34r.gif

Most of her books do deal with serious issues but the way she writes makes it very entertaining.

I finished it last week and really enjoyed it.

Me too! I had to put it away for a couple of says in fact.

I am wanting Marian Keyes to do the remaining book from the series of sisters, iykwim? She still needs to do the youngest sister I think - Anna?
**RocketQueen**
Jodes - the remaining Walsh sister is Helen. Anna's story was the last one Is Anybody Out There? I'm looking forward to that one too. Helen's the funniest of them all laughing2.gif

Oh you guys have really got me interested now, I love Marian Keyes and have just put in my order for her latest for mothers day, and of course a few hours of peace to read it, roll on Sunday!

I was really disappointed! I've enjoyed all her other ones about the Walsh sisters but this one just didn't do it for me. I think it might have been the annoying 'Bridget Jones' style of Lola's parts.

I loved the book, agree it is very different from her others,I can't wait to read Helen's story, the funniest Walsh sister by far, loved her stint as a private eye! grin.gif

Can someone enlighten me? What are the names of the books from the Walsh sister series?
Thanks

Watermelon, Rachel's Holiday, Angels, Anybody Out There?

That's it so far I'm pretty sure.
ramath
Yep,that's them, I must have read Rachel's Holiday at least 5 times - hilarious!

I've just this minute finished it after a marathon session this weekend. Loved it! I found it really dark, too, but for someone who's spent a fair bit of time in Ireland, there was a bit of humour, too. Loved how everyone spent so much time raving about the Kildare bypass. I guess it's improved since I drove it. I found myself reading the passages between chapters and wondering which woman they were referring too. Got a shock when I found out.

For any other big MK fans, have you checked out her website? You can sign up to get a monthly newsletter- I really love getting these.
Mumof32b!
Ok finished it yesterday, it was definitely darker than her others, some times too dark to be honest, I had to have a little mini break on more than one occassion and hug my DH big time. It was humourous though in her way, still a good read but probably not one I will re-read as often as I do some of her others.

Hope she does the final Walsh sister will be great to finish off the series.

I love her books, you just can't put them down. I remember reading Watermelon while I was 38 weeks pregnant....so funny

This is next on my list.

i bought it for our weekend away last weekend, read it in 2/3 days. hmmmm i'm not sure about it. the bridget jones rip off bits were the funniest and my faves even while i was annoyed by the writing style. the story was a lot darker than i expected from her.
Sinzer
Loved it bring on the next one.

Hi All,

I'm a huge MK fan, and as quickly as I read this one, it didn't do it for me - I've read all of her other books at least a billion times, but I can't see myself picking this one up to re-read over and over. It was very dark, wasn't it?

The Lola storyline was good, but I didn't like the diary-style in which it was written - I found myself having to slow down to make sure I read it properly!

A PP mentioned reading the passages between chapters - I did this too, and my thoughts on who it was changed a few times before I got to the end!

Can't wait for the Helen Walsh book - I think that will be a really funny one. I think Watermelon has been me favourite one so far, and Is Anybody Out There is the only one that made me sob. Poor Anna!

I also love MK's monthly newsletter! She's such a funny woman!

I liked it too but instead of having to slow down with the Lola parts I had to speed up! I can't stand it when they drop the little words, it's like listening to baby talk to me.

Found I had to warn someone about the DV when I lent it as it affects so many and I didn't want them to read it if they would be reminded.
